1. Too low of a price. (Possible violation of the FTC c.a.r.s. Rule) 2. Sites that don't list the price upfront. 3. Won't give "out the door numbers" 4. Salesman profiling you 5. Time limit on purchase price 6. Unwilling to provide vehicle history reports 7. Not allowing third party inspection 8. Read dealership reviews 9. Payment packing (illegal) 10. Rate hostage (also illegal; having your rate tied to an extra purchase item) 11* Aggressive sales staff.

A word of advice you might like to pass on to visitors of your channel: When you have a trade in, go along if/when they take it for a ride and put the keys back in YOUR pocket when done. Keep possession of YOUR keys and title until the deal is done and ready for your signature. DO NOT sign the title over or surrender your keys until everything else is settled.

My dad went in to purchase a new car. He was set on a OTD price but the dealer would not budge. He left and the next day the salesperson called him agreeing to his price.

I do use a similar tactic. When I buy a new car, I do my research and find out what a fair OTD price is. Emphasis on FAIR. Not a low ball price, but less than MSRP for sure. I find a unit I like on the lot of every dealer within a 200 mile radius. I email each dealer telling them what my OTD offer is and that if they agree I'll come pick it up that day. I usually end up with two or three responses that say "come get it". I will either go with the first response, or the one closest to me. Of course I will get several "let me call you" or "come into the dealership". I ignore those. I set up a disposable email address so after I purchase the vehicle I can delete the address and not get spammed.

My red flag is "add ons" that "can't be removed" because "all cars have them". Things like window tint, Lojack, Permaplate, protection package, glass etching, etc. If a dealer has those items listed on the buyers order and refuses to remove them, that's a big red flag. All of those things are profit adders that the dealer pays next to nothing for and they jack the price way up on them. I politely explain to the sales person that I do not want those items and I'm happy to wait for a new vehicle to arrive from the factory and purchase it before any of those are added. That's when I typically get, "It's dealer policy, we put it on all our cars". That's when I thank them and leave. Even if they call me back later and offer to remove those items, I will not do business with them. I buy from another dealer.

The price was higher when I got to the dealership. They honored the price when I mentioned it The salesman kept asking what payment I wanted. I told him I did my research on amounts and current interest rates. We came to an agreement on the sales price and he sent it to finance. My credit score is over 800 so I wasn't worried about the interest rate. He kept asking me what payment range I wanted to be in even after sending it to finance. I put down 1/3 of the cost and finance the rest. The loan came back at 9% when I was expecting 6% but went through the loan. The year, exterior/interior combo, and cost were hard to find or I would cancel the whole deal. After paying 1 payment, I paid the loan off which was difficult to begin with. Online banking would not give me a 7-day payout amount until I pressed them. Does the dealership get a kickback from the banks? Not sure how that all works but I felt like they did not go with the lowest interest rate and with the highest kickback amount for them.

My two steps (after having bought about 40 cars, whew); a. Give credit to the sales rep who first spoke to me but I demand to speak to the Sales Manager directly when dealing. b. I looked up 3 or 4 of them and every one I looked up was a rental car from out of state with very high mileage for their age, like 30K miles in one year. Buyer beware! I have this coming up in a video, but to avoid this situation, go on the test drive of your trade-in appraisal. If you have a push-to-start vehicle, there's no need to give them the keys. If it's a key vehicle, when you get back from the test drive, simply say, "I look forward to hearing your offer on my vehicle. May I please have my keys back?" while holding out your hand and saying nothing. (Because the first person who speaks after a question is asked loses.) They will never tell you no.

It’s also not just small dealerships that play the car history game. I leased a 2020 model car, and during that time, I had 3 accidents-one of which was my own (I didn’t want to hit a deer-I now know just hit the dang deer), but the other two were police reported other driver at fault. One of those was at the height of COVID, and the car was at the collision center for 8-freaking months. They had me in a merry-go-round of rentals for 8 months. You might as well said I only actually had a 2 year lease, because that thing didn’t move for 8 months. I bought out of my lease, because it was for all intents and purposes, my car…I had come to love it and all that jazz. I went in shortly after though because I needed to get a minivan because we had another kid on the way. The dealer didn’t bat an eye at paying off my loan for it. Not an eye. They paid off my $15K loan and “bought” my car. Well I followed their website out of curiosity, and they listed and sold that thing, with 1 major accident and 8+ months in the body shop, for like $3K more than that. Think about that, it was listed for $19K online…you know it probably actually sold for more like $20-21K.

I may regret putting this out there, but you can use one of the (with a little trial/error, you can figure out which one) Japanese manufacturer's sites and 'own the car'. Voila! Car history. I told him I'm NOT signing my name on anything because that's not what we agreed on...then I opened the email for my loan documents and the price of the car is $900 more BUT when I e-signed the price was correct. I told him I refuse to sign and I'll bring the car back if need be. How can they just change the price after I sign loan documents. Please Please any suggestions at all???

Should I be worryied about purchasing a new car that has been in the lot for over 4 months? It’s a Ford Edge. They are not selling overall-but are there any concerns for a car that has been sitting there for that long?
@deepthinker999
@deepthinker999 3 ай бұрын
Dealers have to pay interest on their inventory and they would like to have the car sold after (90) days. You might actually get a better deal because they want to get rid of the car as it is costing them too much. Right now dealer's lots are loaded with cars (except for Toyota) so it should be a good time to buy.

@@badgerdoc71 No. Tires can develop flat spots after sitting on a stationary car but the tire manufactures ship them at 45PSI to counter that problem. On a new car there isn't much else to be concerned about. You should be OK. If you keep the car for several years buying late in the season is not a problem, however you will lose money after trading after (2) years. At the end of the model year manufactures rebate money to the dealer to help move inventory of left over cars, meaning that you could get a better price.

How can you do a 3rd party inspection? If they allow it, can you take the car to a 3rd party shop for the inspection or does that 3rd party inspector have to come to the dealership??
@deepthinker999
@deepthinker999 3 ай бұрын
Many dealers want to get the car inspected on their lot so it doesn't get hoisted in the air. Out of round tires can only be seen in the air. Try to make the sale contingent on inspection by an independent mechanic at their facility and see if they let you walk. The independent inspection should run you about $100.00 which is a wise investment given the financial liability that you are assuming.

I disagree about not going to the lot! Showing up and negotiating on the car you want is the best way to get the best deal. At least for sought after vehicles!
@ChevyDude
@ChevyDude 3 ай бұрын
1. You must be a car salesman based on your comment. 2. If #1 doesn’t apply, and you have a sought-after vehicle, you have no purchase price negotiation power at home or the dealership. (Simply pay what they have it listed for) If the dealership is tacking on BS fees, you have NO POWER at the store, as they will simply keep telling you that this is a highly sought-after car and if you leave, somebody else will be right behind you to get it. However, if you’re on the phone and they’re trying to add on BS fees, you have significant negotiating power to say, "I’m not interested in coming in until you can put it in writing that I am paying the purchase price plus doc fee, tax, state fees, and nothing else." Home field advantage is the most POWERFUL negotiating technique. You either can have it or you can give it away, but it’s your choice.

Hypothetical: New car $100K, sales tax 10%, = $10K. My trade-in is valued at $75K, now the sales tax is on the $25K diff, = $2.5K, a savings of $7.5K. Dealer drops the trade-in allowance by $7.5K, claiming that with the sale tax savings, I'm still getting $75K trade-in value. Legit? I see this a lot.
