The work you're creating is so so beautiful. It's giving my Sophie McPike, Matt Forsythe and Leigh Ellexson and so many more while being so purely YOU and its stunning! So bright and light and yet so grounded. It's crazy to see how much your skill has evolved in the last year and it's been lovely to watch.

Your art is beautiful and I love that you share your life with us, but I'm glad you are giving yourself space to be private with your creativity.

I'm happy that you took the time to tell us what is going through your head! You don't really owe it to us (the viewers) to explain why you feel the way you feel or what you are considering at this time, but you did it anyway. It's nice to know that other people are taking the time to think through the direction their 'unconventional art career' is going, and not just me. In terms of using an apartment as a metaphor for your mental health, I do that too! I got it from my brother who once said (age 14) "My conscious and I are like passive-aggressive roommates, we don't talk often." Since then I have referred to my social anxiety and inferiority issues as my "toxic roommates".

You are the Original, your art work is superior - not inane- as well as your delivery on camera (tnkx God stuttering free). Professional. I muted her so, IDK what she said, probably insipid. Anyways, you were right Leigh, your business model, your video shots, style had been plagiarize big time... by a someone with art skills level k-12.

Hey, I just got diagnosed with ADHD and I'm 25. Girl, I KNOW the struggle to get that diagnosis. I had to have 4 separate appointments before I got it. It's hard, AND the solid feeling that I now have, because I have an "official" diagnosis, is worth it. You got this, my dude. PS, I highly encourage taking a break to figure out who you are as an artist, I'm currently doing the same.
@dunkyourdonuts2282
@dunkyourdonuts2282 3 жыл бұрын
Omg same, I got my diagnoses recently as well except I'm even older than you. But I'm lucky to be in a country that mental health is over-looked and stigmatized as either "does that mean you're crazy?" or a "rich people problem", but somehow that actually makes it easier to get an assessment (as long as you're willing to pay) But YES, the diagnoses and the realization of "whats wrong with you" is SOOOO important, I remember my doctor telling me "All the traits you had that you always thought were bad personality traits, they're not. They're symptoms of a disorder, personality traits may be hard to change, but disorders can be treated" and that sentence alone literally lifted a weight i've been carrying since childhood off my shoulders. I used to just keep changing things around me- jobs, relationships, friends, hobbies, thinking if i somehow just ran into the right combination i could have my perfect life and become the person i've always imagined, but now I realize nothing can change unless I do, and while I'm still struggling even with meds, I'm happy with PROGRESS rather than blaming myself for not achieving success straight away. I related so much to what Cheyenne said in this video, I know everyone's ADHD journey is different, but hope we are all able to fight through this disorder and achieve our goals and dreams

wow I really relate to the experience you're describing - of sometimes not being able to do things that I usually enjoy/the joy I find in something shifting slowly over time/having periods where I have to work out exactly what I need to be doing to make me happy and on one hand I'm sure that everyone experiences that, but on the other hand there's something in amongst that that feels tied in with my ADHD sometimes I feel like I have hyper-fixations that last short amounts of time and are really intense, but that I also have fixations that grow more slowly and gently change over time (for example, I loved embroidery for YEARS, and then I was really interested in spinning and weaving for years, and now crochet and sewing.. like those are all such similar things) it's not the same as other hyper fixations that I move past quickly, they become more significant to who I am as a person and being in a transition period between those or not having one of those changes the amount I am able to enjoy life I suppose and I guess what feels different about that is that when interest in them starts to drop off, it feels like a big deal, bigger than very small hyperfixations and then I'm kinda left looking around for something to satisfy me in life all of a sudden and it doesn't feel like that happens to neurotypical people ?

Re: no sink, what comes to mind for me is one of those water cooler things we have at my office. Like, where you can open the spigot at the bottom and water comes out? Having 2 seems most ADHD friendly, where one lives at home and the other lives at the studio. And when the one that lives at the studio starts getting low, the two trade places so the other one can get refilled. I do a variation of this for myself at home to remember to hydrate lol, so maybe something along these lines could be helpful to you? OK if no though; just something I thought of haha!

It’s funny to me that you say that it was hard for you to keep up with your bullet ournal because of ADHD, because for me, after I got my diagnosis, I allowed myself to spend a little bit on a nice notebook so I COULD start a bullet journal. I didn’t follow you in the Studyblr days, but I’m assuming you went all out with layouts and the like? The way mine is set up is very bare bones, very close to the OG Ryder Carroll set up. (I think it’s worth mentioning that he also has ADHD, hence a planning system that can change as necessary.) The only thing I do differently is I pick a different colored pen every week to keep me engaged, and it also helps me to separate weeks visually. You’re also totally right about trying to get a diagnosis for ADHD while having ADHD. My therapist shot down that idea a few times, and the day I really pushed to take a basic screener was the day of the 2020 US Presidential Election and I wanted to think about literally anything other than that. But I filled out the screener and two week later at my next appointment, not only did my score indicate ADHD but I scored pretty high. As far as keeping yourself on track, talk to neurodivergent friends, even if they have a different form of neurodivergence, because having people you can talk to that get it is so helpful. For example, there’s a lot of overlap with “symptoms” and experience with ADHD and autism. Even if it’s to vent about dealing with neurotypical people, or the frustration that comes with trying to do something that should be simple to accomplish but brain says “no” that day. Better yet, talk to someone who has been through the diagnosis process that’s willing to take you under their wing. Again, they don’t have to have been diagnosed with ADHD. Something else to keep in mind is that for people who menstruate, hormones can have an effect on the brain and you may notice it’s extra hard to concentrate or you might feel more foggy at certain times of the month. Just know that you’re not alone, there are a lot of us that can relate to what you’re going through, and please try to be gentle with yourself. When I’m being extra hard on myself, I take a step back and ask “Is this because I’m not meeting my expectations of myself, or is this internalized ableism?”
