i am also new as an assistant and yesterday i worked with a substitute dentist for the first time and she was so sweet and she gave me tips and today i worked with the regular dentist who is a perfectionist with demands and did not do anything right in her eyes i have cried because of that and wanted to stop. she doesn't want to assist with me anymore... it also depends on the dentist how understanding they are.

Ms. Monge Valenzuela Mesial is the surface of the tooth that is closest to the midline of the mouth, which is the vertical line that divides the mouth in half. Distal is the surface of the tooth that is the furthest away from the midline of the mouth. It is hard to explain without visuals, so my advice would be to look at diagrams, this helps a lot when preparing for your boards.

Ashley Fortier I started back in mid April with absolutely no experience & am finally starting to feel very confident! It is very very difficult I agree but it definitely gets better. Everyone would tell me when I started that the more I chair side assist, the more I’ll learn which is hard to hear when you are a nervous wreck like me but it’s 100% true. Dental assisting I’ve learned is very repetitive! Hang in there because it gets so much better & you will do great.

Congrats! How is your job going as a dental assistant? Today is my first day with no experience
@valeriemarie76512 жыл бұрын
@@yasminvilla8481 it took me a little while to get the hang of it! I was an Emt before. So it was a huge change in pace. I was the only assistant since we are such a small office. It’s a fun job to have even if it’s a stepping stone in your career. I took some time at home to review tooth numbers and tools your doctor needs for procedures. The biggest tip I can give you is when setting up for your procedures take pictures of your table so you remember. That helped me catch on so much faster. And don’t be afraid to ask for help. My dentist is amazing and taught me so much. With having no experience it is so easy to get flustered and frustrated but just remind yourself you’re brand new. Give it 3 months of constant routines- dentistry is repetitive depending on your specialty. But it is a very fun and rewarding job!

Currently partaking in on the job training after a year of being a care coordinator. I've done a lot of things as a healthcare professional, and am excited to get on to the next chapter. If I had known about the benefits to working in dental versus medical I would've avoided hospital settings and went straight to dental. Anyway, I really appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge with the world. Hoping to return to work day by day, surprising my peers by knowing things they wouldn't expect for me to know. We count the teeth completely different. We have mouth parted in to four quarts. With the front teeth starting as 1 towards the wisdom teeth that have always the number 8. So according to that for instance it's starts in the first quart with 11, 12, 13,14,15,16,17,18. With the first number resembling the part of the mouth your in. So first quart, and the second number for the tooth. For the baby teeth it's quart 5,6,7 and 8. For instance it would be 51,52,53,54,55. 61,62,63,64,65 and so on

The way I learned it (currently in dental assistant school), I am actually doing the course in French in Canada, and the way they teach us is that when facing the patient, there are four quadrants top right: Q1 top left: Q2 Bottom right: Q3 and bottom left: Q4. The 3rd molar on Q1 starts at 18 until the first tooth (in French its incisive centrale) then on Q2 it starts at 28 to 21. Then on the bottom right 3rd molar so Q3 starts at 38 to 31 and Q4 it starts at 48 to 41. Sounds confusing but it’s interesting how terms change depending where you live.

Question. Do you have to have good teeth to be a dental assistant? I have three on the lower front that are bad. Will they expect me to cover that or get it fixed ?

G O I’m in the same boat. I make pretty ok $ but want career change and can’t imagine starting back at $12 or even $14 per hour 😟
@Ashley-kh7el5 жыл бұрын
You make little starting out and it takes awhile to make some something decent per hour. But I like to see it as a career. You can always grow in the field and you’re very unlikely to get laid off. I would suggest dental hygiene if you don’t mind going to school for a little longer.

There’s also positions in smile direct club that offer pay as high as 18 an hour starting because it’s a new company but it’s more of sales but you have to have a dental background

Hey, I’m interested in this field of work. Also, do you plan on staying as a dental assistant or eventually work up the ranks? (E.g dental hygienist, dentist). Thank you!

Hello, Cheyenne. I started my classes in March 27. It is a 12 week course. I have a lot of cram in for that short amount of time and plus I work. I go to school one day out of a week. I am really trying to learn it. It just I am trying to find other apps or videos to help me expand my knowledge on dental assistant.

I love your videos! I just registered in a program. The program is only 3 months so I don’t know how much I can intake within that little time. Any advice on that? It’s super short and I feel like I have made a mistake. I am willing to learn as much as possible. I am even studying now & my classes do not start until July! Thank you!
