Just buy a 6 to 8 pin power adapter to run your 3060 in your harvest rig.

Yes, have a conversion cable but PSU is not going to supply enough power. I need a new machine to house the HBA card for the disk shelf too, so going to do some shopping.

I just cant get my head around chia you spend 10 grand on kit and 2 quid a day on leccy to earn like 70 pence of chia and spend literally hours a day piddling around constantly battling hardware and software issues? What am I missing? Ps I've got some GTX1050s in the attic no power plugs needed on those if you want to try something with a bit more poke instead of that GT1030 which is limper than a bowl of jelly in the summer sun! :P

Hi, and thanks for a great comment. Going to be quite a long reply though, so bear with me... I don't think you are necessarily talking just about XCH. It is the same mining any crypto, especially in the UK with our high electricity costs. From a personal perspective, it is not just about 'instant' profit for me. Yes. it would be correct to say that buying XCH would be a better option at present, but that attracts unwanted scrutiny. Also, I like to look at the bigger picture. I don't know If you have seen Gene Hoffman's interview with Brian Freeman recently, but if you did, you would have recognised that here is a CEO who knows his product inside out, more knowledgeable and confident than Elon Musk with any of his presentations that I have witnessed. Listening to the history and plans for the product were nothing more than awe inspiring. I certainly want to make sure that I have a growing infrastructure for this coin, so that in the event of something good happening, I am there to reap the benefits. I certainly don't want to be one of those people who didn't invest in Bitcoin when it was $2. And I say Bitcoin purposely, because the XCH blockchain has the potential to offer much more, and it only can do so with the support of the community of Nodes and Farmers. On another note, buying XCH doesn't teach you anything. I may be in my fifties but I still yearn for knowledge and technical challenges, and looking after my mini data centre fulfils that. It's a great feeling when you let nothing beat you. We are all built differently, and this is just the way I work. I haven't spent anywhere near ten grand on my infrastructure. Every bit is EBay…unloved e-waste put to good use, and in a sustainable and (as efficient as possible) manner. Thanks for the offer of the GTX1050's, but my next video will explain the experiments that I have been conducting recently and what I have in place now. Many thanks for watching.

great video, i only found out about this in early jan, a friend of mine bought me 20 exos 20tb drives, and a few DAS (direct attach storage) boxes, i spent the entire month of jan studying and testing, in feb, i was making C14 plots when my computer died, yesterday another friend bought me a new computer, it's quite a bit better then the last one, my next goal is to learn gigahorse 3, i spend so much time trying to get faster plot times is madness, but i believe i can do it lmao, i'd love to see a 5 min plot, i went to school for CS, i majored HPC (high performance computing), but that was eons ago (2011-2014) also, what filesystem do you use? sorry for the novel :p

Friends who buy you 20x EXOS 20TB drives and new computers are friends forever...wish I had some flush with cash like that. I run all my gear on Windows at the moment. Have tried to upgrade to Ubuntu Linux for my plotter but the install keeps failing. That would get me creating sub ten minute plots. Going to look at Linux Mint next to see If that will work. Thanks for watching.

@@crypto-carlos oh, i could make you a step by step guide on how i setup my linux, i could show you a few different distros, setup process, filesystem, and how to get everything setup, i also need to make a video on my setup, i havent made a video in about 11 or 12 years, since i was in college. Also yea, i have a some good friends, most of my friends are veterans like myself, so we help each other when we can, if you want, i can make the video tomorrow.

No need to do me a video mate. I will find my way when I am ready and ask for help from you If I hit problems, but thanks for the offer. Would you recommend Linux Mint though as a platform for a harvester and plotter? Whatever country you are a veteran of, I am sure that country thanks you and your buddies for their service.

@@crypto-carlosi actually became homeless when i got out the service due to having lost my original birth certificates, i was born in italy, my father was stationed there when i was born. I remained homeless for the next 11 years. I basically had no idenity, all i had was my military id and my dd-214, which is useless in the civilian world. As far as linux mint goes, i would suggest pop_os because it has support for nvidia drivers right out the gate, not saying that pop_os has the fastest plot times, but it's pretty good. I've tested quite a few linux distros, you'll also see others using BTRFS filesystem, i also wouldnt suggest that file system, i've also done alooot of testing on that front and found that XFS crushes the rest in almost all cases. If you go with default, it will pick ext4 in almost all distros. XFS was created to deal with large files, imagine that lol. When i tested BTRFS, it crashed soon after, and the good part of BTRFS was, i was able to recover all the plots on that drive, then moved on to another filesystem. Getting into Chia has abit of a learning curve, and everybody should do alot of testing before getting into it. Another thing, i wish i had atleast one of those pslc nvme drives DSP was selling, i cant find them anywhere at all. Currently i'm cooking my nvme drives medium rare. As far as making videos on this matter, i've been streaming on twitch for about 2 years now, and i'm constantly installing various linux distros and doing testing. I just really havent shown any of this stuff on my streams.

Thanks for your update mate and thanks for watching. Looks like my GT1030 is my latency issue with regards harvesting. Like you my 3060ti will have to become the GPU harvester. What sort of plot time do you get with the 3060 working as both plotter and harvester? Standalone on Windows its up to 25 minutes for me. Tried to install Ubuntu on the old Dell workstation but install would not work.

If only I had time mate... As you have probably seen from my previous videos I have steered away from GPU mining now and are concentrating on CHIA for the time being. That being said, I still have some of the hardware and may visit some new minable coins with it, but not ETH or ETC. Thanks for watching.
