I have one they are available as pistols too and are a good little gun best 180 i spent on a 22 it feels solid and it may be ugly but i love mine even without any sights i still hit my target could fire from the hip it dont matter for me and i can reload one handed call me a bs(er) but i made a sling rod that attaches to the rail screw and i use that because sometimes it feels like something i want to make a belt buckle tap dispenser because my left hand fumbles too much reloading and ambidextrous shooting is a pain with small guns because im right eye dominant and if you try that right now it just no way man i wish they had more calibers i want mine in 9mm or 38 special even 223 222 224 etc it has songle shooting potential maybe an upscaled model haha

Loved the review but was amazed at all the comments from the self-professed "Gun Guys" that seemed completely impervious as to the sense behind this platform. I think it's an obvious contender for firearm of choice for many especially into the outdoor sport lifestyle i.e. serious camping and hiking such as those that live for the Appalachian Trail or Patagonia where it's a nice compact tool that provides some defense and survival options in an emergency and does so without a noticeable footprint. Especially for someone that is a hardcore hiker that realizes just a few ounces can be the difference in successfully completing a leg or not this is a solid option and with a fairly decent build quality and very fair price point I Chiappa found a contender.

I got one in .22LR when they first came out for $150.00, just because I like to plink and I like firearms that are...well...different or unusual! This really fit the bill...fun, cheap to shoot, easy to operate, very light weight, good sights, and that trigger...smooth as butter! Before I ever dropped the hammer, my initial thought was that being such a cheap rifle, the trigger would be horrific! Man...was I wrong! Like Hickok45, I fired before I expected. That's where the whole "keep you finger off the trigger until absolutely ready to fire" comes in! I was so impressed, I told my buddy to come over and drop the hammer on this thing and he was equally impressed. Something hickok didn't mention is that the bullet does not fit flush in the chamber. If you push it down flush, it will not extract the bullet when you open the gun after firing it and jam up the works. It doesn't fully extract as you probably noticed...the brass comes out just far enough to get your fingers on it. Of course, with the paws on Hickok45, he is probably using his finger nails! LOL! Love the videos hickok45 and John...keep em coming! I would recommend this little gun highly!

I have one in 22LR with a Still suppressor and I love it. Non shooters are amazed because it doesn't look like a gun to them, and they enjoy trying it because it's so non-intimidating. The trigger is slightly heavy but crisp and it's fairly accurate. I removed the iron sights and installed a cheap red dot, and removed the lower rail so it folds a bit tighter. It's very light and robust and great fun for plinking a few targets in the garden when the urge takes me. With a suppressor it's quieter than an air gun with subsonic rounds.The break barrel makes it very easy to clean. I would highly recommend it, especially in 22LR.

I started using weed whip string to clean .22 and .17. I cut it to length, (a bit longer than the barrel), sharpen one end, and heat and "dob" the other end to enlarge it. I can then stab a patch with the sharp end and move it to the other end. The string is much more narrow and softer than the bore so I don't worry about damaging it. Any gun can be cleaned from the breech end this way. It's CHEAP too! Works great.

That's actually a pretty cool idea for such a tiny barrel. You should have seen the looks on the shooters faces when my Black Powder revolver was fowling. Not only did the Cold have the whole front end taken off from the back, but I rummaged and found a twig long and straight enough to push the cleaning wipe down the barrel. Ingenuity I love it.

I know this is a (very) belated comment, but wanted to clarify - this rifle has direct lineage to the M-6 line of rifles (Springfield Scout). They were made for pilots as part of their survival kit. Lightweight and easily stored under the seat or elsewhere, it could keep someone alive for a week or 2 after a remote hard landing. The original guns were over/under - typically .22 over .410 or something similar. I owned a .22 Hornet over a .410 in the early 2000's, and sold it for what I thought was a fortune in my early 20's. It still stands out as the biggest mistake I have ever made in regards to trading firearms or knives. I made about $100 on it, and bought a fly reel. The gun is worth $500 more than that now, and incredibly hard to find. Great video. that .17 HMR is a really interesting round, I have never watched a video with one, and had no idea about the velocity, etc. From a pure survival standpoint, I think the .22 is a better option (price, ease of finding), but the .17 is a really interesting little stinger.

It has one sorta you gotta crack it fast enough or use stubby 22s cuz they are hilarious but still pack a little tiny punch thats good enough for me but it has an extractor so idk why they didnt make it like a shotgun where the smoke in the barrel is thick enough for the shell pressure remaining to push themselves out of you mean an extractor similar to a revolver then totally they should. Now correct me if im wrong i like to know what i can learn the answers to. But can't tje short casing make it likely to actually eject rather just extract

This little .17 round is not only faster than a .22lr but also has more muzzle energy! (~245 FPE vs 135 FPE for a .22lr). They should totally make a .17 caliber semi-auto pocket pistol like the Ruger lcp2.

I think the .17HMR is a great round for plinking and otherwise having fun. This rifle is probably a good choice for teaching younger shooters. It looks like it would be fun to shoot. Late to the game here, but those skeleton frame .22's were popular with bicyclists back in the 1880's and 1890's. They were for picking off stray dogs that were notorious for chasing cyclists. Makers back in the day were Quackenbush, Hamilton (for Sears), and J. Stevens. It's so old, the design is new again!

As an owner of two chiappa little badgers be warned not to disassemble the firearm. The Chiappalloy used in the little badger is likened to a soft aluminum that the hardened torx screws can easily be strip the threads out of the receiver. It is evidently a known problem as the manual vaguely warns to not over torque the screws. I've been trying to warn everyone I can. Wood screws would have been a better choice from the factory for more bite. Just my 2 cents.

The double rifle is called the double badger. They also make a little badge with a wood stock, they come it in 22lr 22WMR and 17 hmr. They also make one called the little squirel which is chambered in 9mm flobert. Chiappa make some great guns.

My favorite firearm that I own is a Winchester Model 67-22. Single shot, rudimentry stock, bolt, firing pin, and iron sights. Like you said, nothing better to hone shooting skills & discipline for both the novice and the experienced.

Woo Hoo I just found my new home defense firearm!!!!! Ok maybe not but it looks like a fun little backpacking plinker where predators aren't an issue. I have a decent little collection of Firearms, and one of my favorite's is my used N.E.F. 20 Gauge Pardner break open. It's 18.5" barrel Mod Cylinder choke, and just FUN to shoot. So I know what you mean when you talk about respecting a simple gun. This was a pretty cool video Hickok45, I wish you would do more on unusual or affordable firearms. You do a lot of middle value and higher end firearms but not enough of the S&W VE aka Sigma value quotient. But I am a sucker for something unusual. Thanks for the video.

I got this rifle. Very cost effective gun if all you need is just one shot. Great trigger. Breaks very crisp, and a child would have no problem with it. The rear sight is easily adjustable with attached knobs. It breaks down nearly in half for backpack storage. The pistol grip (sold separately) is hollow and contains a cleaning kit. It was designed for emergency survival in mind.

I know I'm a little late watching this. but 17hmr is my go to round for small game hunting. I'm a little south from you in western north carolina, squirrel, rabbit, ground hogs, and even varmits up to coyote I hunt with a 17hmr I also shoot 17wsm hunting. those rounds you were using were some of my favorites. but don't let the little polymer tip 17 round fool you the first time I used one squirrel hunting I made the mistake of shooting one in the side directly in the middle, needless to say that one was ruined (17 cci polymer tip) I now use the cci fmj rounds for everything I eat and soft points or polymer tip rounds for coys or any other varmit. the 17wsm only comes in polymer tip rounds and using it squirrel hunting takes carefully placed shots. but for anyone new to small caliber firearms in my opinion I believe the little 17 is a great starter and a great hunting round for small game. review the savage b.mag *heavy barrel* in 17wsm the fastest rimfire in the world. I believe it will surprise you.

As for the cleaning - when we had to shoot some corrosive ammo so we needed to clean up right after we finished shooting and there were no appropriate cleaning rod on the firing range we just got a long cotton rope with diameter smaller than the gun caliber, put it trough the barrel, made couple of knots on the loose end, dipped the knots in the cleaning fluid and pulled the rope with these knots trough the barrel. Worked just fine for us.

I really enjoy my .22lr. Picked off dozens of Red Squirrels with it, simple bushnell scope, Yankee Hill Machine Flash Hider(AAC Prodigy Silencer coming in the next few months), and wrapped the stock with Paracord for more comfort. Awesome little rifle and a great go to rodent/pest control rifle. Buds is too high as well as most other retailers. I picked mine up for around $125

I have a little Henry .17HMR levergun and love it. I use heavy nylon weed whacker cord for a boresnake, sharpen one end to poke through the gauze and melt the other end to make a knob. The CCR ammo, hollowpoint without the plastic insert is turned sideways easily in a light breeze. Thanks for all the good videos!

The "Double Badger" is a combo .410/.22, that folds almost double in a similar manner. I suggested a combo .410/.357 magnum to Chiappa, which would make a very versatile little firearm, but they said it would be uneconomic to produce. Guess my ideas aren't mainstream!

They do make a .17 HMR bore snake. For me it's the best/easiest way to clean a .17. I've only seen a couple of cleaning rods for a .17 and they seemed too flimsy and I was afraid they would damage the barrel. Some may suggest getting a rubber coated rod but .17 is so small there really isn't room for a rubber coated rod.

44 people don't understand the value of a nice, relatively powerful but small and compact single shot rifle. But if they ever needed one and didn't have one, they'd be voting differently. And H45 is right on the mark, as usual: a "youngster" could do a lot worse than start out with a rifle like this one. It's patience and practice that teaches the basics, not firing a lot of ammo. that makes it hard to afford. Great vid.

I have this gun in the .22 LR version and absolutely love it. The only thing I did to it was paint the front sight bright red, just to make it easier to get a quick sight picture in a survival situation.

Good review, Hickok45. The Little Badger looks like a handy rifle to take along camping or fishing. Plus, it's an excellent rifle to teach kids how to shoot. The external hammer is something that can be watched to ensure gun safety. Plus, machine gunning off, boxes off .22 ammunition in a semi-automatic, doesn't teach kids anything (Except to waste money like a drunk-politician).

Almost got one of these about two weeks ago at a gun show, owner wasn't willing to do a trade though. It's a shame, I have such sweet fantasies of building grips and other accessories for those rails...

Hickok, I am dying to see you review a Browning BLR. Very few people have done an extensive report on this amazing rifle. Please help those few of us that know how great this rifle is to show people. I say that a takedown BLR, Stainless Steel, in 308 is just about the finest all around hunting rifle out there.

Throw in a nice pistol grip, a nice foregrip, a laser and a flashlight on each side, $2400 in accessories on a $140 rifle, would be good for some laughs. It's set up to take the full suite of tactical toys right out of the box.

Jon Asgaeroth Yeah, I told John that we should put the ACOG on it to start the video, but we decided against it. On a first video / review of a firearm, I try not to get too silly, plus I have it zeroed in and attached to my Daniel Defense M4 A1 right now and hate to take it off.

hickok45 Do you have any other optics you could stick on for the hell of it for a possible chapter two? You know those rails are BEGGING for it to be made tacticool.

Honestly if you've got the money for it, it'd probably be a decent investment if you're really serious about having a .17HMR break-action hunting gun. Pretty sure most people would just stick on a scope meant for air rifles though, just cause it's within the price range, and not like 5-10x the price of the firearm.

Long time video watcher, first time commenting. I really enjoy all your videos and greatly appreciate the time you invest in showing us all these videos. I can't speak for everyone, but from those of us who greatly enjoy these videos I would like to say Thank you and keep up the great work. I do have a request if you could possibly try, whenever possible, various semi automatic shotguns for those of us considering getting into 3 gun competition. Off the top of my head the top recommended are: 1. Benelli M2 2. Mossberg JM 930 3. Remington Versa Max 4. Stoeger M3000 5. FNH SLP MK1 Again thank you very much for your videos, and hope to continue seeing more.
