Chiappa Little Badger .22LR Review

A review of my custom Chiappa Little Badger in .22LR. Specs of my gun:

With the leftover plastic rails. I made a 8 round bullet holder. You have to buy longer screws. Turn one of the rails around and fit over another rail. To form 8 squares. With a small file carefully widen each square to fit a .22 bullet. Fit it to the left side of where the original left Picatinny rail was. It’s a lot quicker to reload. And the rounds are more secured than in the rear bullet holder. Cheers

It’s a shame I can’t add some pictures. I put a scout scope (bushnell 2-7x36) I’m very impressed with accuracy. At 25m it’s grouping around a quarter inch. If I was better at editing video, I’d upload a video. Cheers Brent

"Mixed Reputation" says it all when you describe a Chiappa. Love their 1892 replicas - but their alloy rimfire stuff is a roll of the dice.

For the grayish look and the cast marks the receiver and barrel shroud looks more like zinc cast than steel. You can check this easily with a magnet in an area where no steel parts are nearby.

I purchased mine but the one I purchased is the 22wmr (22mag). Still waiting for mine to come in ordered it 6 weeks ago and still waiting. This virus has really messed things up here in America. Great video . Oh ya forgot to say paid $ 178 new.

Nice! I'd like to try one in 22 Mag. That sucks, I read a lot about ammo shortages too. The only real effect I've seen over here is inflation of prices to some extraordinary levels. For instance, at the start of the year new a new Marlin 1894 SBL was £1300 (way more than in the US already), now shops want £1700!

Great review, and even better mods on your gun, you obviously have some machining skills that most of us lack in order to do the barrel reduction. Anyways, I thought I'd mention that the little bag is actually quite handy as a prepper accessory in that if you keep the gun fairly stock so that it fits within the little bag you can have the bag concealed under your jacket on your back with the Velcro side down which will allow for quick access. It will even hold a round in the chamber in this position. Great gun out to about 100 yards. With your build I'd use 60 grain Aguila subsonics ammo which carry around 100 foot pounds of force at 75 yards and are deadly quiet, a bit louder than my pellet gun when using a cheap home built silencer. Yep, the CCI quiets are terrible.

Thanks for your comment. I was an apprentice in a machine shop for a few years and picked up lots of skills that have proved very useful in my amateur gunsmithing. That's a good idea about the bag. It's funny you mention the Aguila 60gr ammo, they've actually just started being imported into the UK recently. I'll definitely buy a few boxes if I come across any!

@@ApurtureSci You might buy just one box since they may tumble in flight out of some guns and since yours is modded in length it could make a difference. Look for key holing on a paper target at different distances to find what works. Again, thanks for a great video.

I live in the US in Tennessee and the range down the road will let you fire .50bmg and it is an indoor range, cant fire ap rounds of any sort. But it kinda through me for a loop when you said that .22 is quite nasty and that you cant fire .22wmr at your range because it exceeds safety limits

There are ranges in the UK such as The Tunnel where .50 BMG can be fired indoors. My local range however is a very small indoor one in the middle of a very residential area. It was originally designed for .22, .32 and .38 handguns back when they were legal. The current limits are max 1750fps or 475ft/lbs, lead bullets only.

@@twintwo1429 Perhaps. Here it's all about the construction of the range. I've shot at some ranges that are rimfire only and I've shot at indoor ranges that are rated for 50 BMG.

Only in Europe does 22 magnum "Exceed safety limitations."

Nothing to do with politics, it's just the nature of my local shooting range. It's in a built up-residential area and being designed as a .22 pistol club it has strict velocity limits (1750fps). If there was a factory 22 Mag load that was slower than 1750fps I could shoot it there. I also shoot 240gr 44 Mag there but download it to under 1000fps. If I want to shoot anything powerful there's an excellent range down the coast that allows up to 50 BMG in their indoor range inside an old rallilway tunnel, it's quite an experience.

you are shooting high because you are shooting at 25 yards. most 22LR are better at 50 -100 yards for American rounds.

Not a semi-auto 9mm, no. No calibre or capacity restrictions on manually operated guns though.

They were made from the sights I took off a Browning Buckmark carbine - I have since replaced them with a homemade adjustable peep sight of my own design. Sadly there aren't any decent aftermarket iron sights made for these (to my knowledge).

They came from my Browning BuckMark Carbine. I drilled and tapped the barrel for the front sight, the rear just screwed into the existing rear sight hole after modification. I've now replaced them with a peep sight and front ramp I machined myself.

It's some kind of heavy alloy that feels similar to steel, it's not aluminium. I have no concerns about durability.
