I think I now understand what brainrot truly is now after watching that two minute clip explaining you should speedrun anime at 3.5x speed. If you need to be productive watching entertainment. Then you missed the point already.
Love you all so much thank you for all the support!

The problem with Abi is that he is obsessed with the idea of productivity itself. He wants to optimize everything without even knowing why he does it and whether he should. What he gets wrong about dopamine hits/skipping to interesting stuff is that, the closer each dopamine hits are from each other, the more desensitized he will become. He makes a fundamental mistake about the nature of dopamine. So he will neither enjoy the journey and its destination. That is the sad reality of this. Entertainment and media is not something to optimize but something we should take our time to enjoy. Paradoxically fast fowarding to interesting stuff makes things less interesting.

Thanks for the ableist remark but that's literally what blind people do. You're jsut supremacist for your own perceptions on how life works. People are always making the bigoted takes about things, like simple adjustment is some savantism and "I could never do it". Because you GIVE UP when you have the easy way out of your existing senses. You make the point that there can't be anything in common with you and a person who is differently specialized, and the seeing are not allowed to acquire any skills of the blind. And yeah, that's specifically ableism. You make the LIMITATION the entire point of it and nothing but an excuse "they're so pitiful because they odn't ahve the ability". Even now you're apping about "attention span" to vilify them not having that ABILITY: ableism. It's the same kind of thing as some black man happening upon Egypt, getting enslaved there and then they say "because of your skin color that's a bit darker". The slavery is the crime, but the -ism is your criminal mind, mens rea.

Manga takes even longer for me. I'm a slow reader. And it's much worse in general. I'm recently read the newest One Piece chapters, and I couldn't get immersed at all. I'll likely skim trough most of the speech bubbles which don't seem that important, I don't know what to focus on, it's only black white. Most of the time I just ignore most of the pictures. Animated manga is better, where they cut out parts of the panel and let them fade in or zoom at the important parts. And generally for books and manga, I have to actively read, which is more effort. There is no predefined pacing, so I can read it slow or fast. And sometimes my mind just drifts away while reading sentences and I have to read a whole page again. And there's also no marker like in games, where I only see the one text box at once, which I read and then I press A to see the next one. So I'm often not sure what I've already read and read some parts multiple times or in manga even in the wrong order.

Days With My Stepsister is SO SLOW and I LOVE IT. To watch it any faster is to ruin the delivery of the show. This kind of reminds me of the binge phenomena that Netflix likes to push. I'm a strong believer that binging anime, or any story or entertainment, is a very bad way to experience a show. The short explaination is time and memory; after watching a show and sleeping on it, the brain has to subconsciously process everything that it has consumed, along with everything else that happened that day. Watching an entire show does not allow for enough time for the brain to process the full worth of the show, and overtime it becomes forgotten. By repeatedly watching a show on a weekly, or even perhaps daily schedule, you reinforce the themes of the show stronger than if it were done in one sitting. This is a similar idea to how relationships IRL. Let's do an experiment. If you had 7 hours to spend getting to know a stranger, which would be more impactful, 7 hours in a single day, or 1 hour each day for 7 days? The answer is the latter. Another experiment. You have a big test coming up, do you spend 7 hours the day before to study, or do you spend 1 hour a day for 7 days leading up to the test? The hint is this: how much do you remember from your cram sessions? We (our minds) just aren't built for binging.

That anime isn't slow. It has the perfect pacing. I would say something like one piece, which makes its episodes super slow (adapting 1 or sometimes less than 1 chapter per episode, only to avoid catching up to the manga mid arc). That is why I always tell people to READ one piece, but most people don't have the attention spans to read unfortunately.

This would make sense for why it seems like everyone struggles to comprehend anime stories. Or even claim they are bad. While seemingly missing like tons of crucial details. Was talking with someone about Apothecary Diaries a few days ago. It was like he skipped 3 episodes but said he watched everything. He would get furious if I corrected him on anything. Never wanted to blame himself for why he thought it was bad. It almost makes sense why a lot of people who watch anime only care about the action scenes and nothing else.

As someone who watches a lot of youtube on 2x, I'm generally doing that for content that's just conveying information. The same way you can read text faster than speak it, I find it's sometimes just more efficient and can be better understood even by consuming it in more focused/condensed time. I can also understand the annoyance of filler and extremely slow paced older shows that were made that way originally out of technical limitations more than creative vision. Anything involving music, comedic timing, animation, specifically crafted experiences though I can't imagine sacrificing in such a way.

I've noticed this in myself, not to anywhere near the same degree, but I have developed a habit of skipping 10 seconds a head when a scene makes me "Cringe" if you will. This has been something that I have been trying to break as, when I thought about it, it significantly decreases the quality of the content because it pulls me out of the emotional state that the story worked so hard to immerse me in. I also feel for the speed running of content nowadays, as someone that has grown up in this age, I have always loved video games but lately I've been just running through games and trying to min-max everything as quickly as possible. Somewhere along the line I just forgot how to slow down and just enjoy the content that is in front of me, and I never really noticed how bad it had gotten until I tried to slow myself down; It has proven to be a difficult habit to break out of but I'm trying. Anyways, great video as always Chibi! I loved the ending haha.

I really think this is a huge issue because of the media that's out there. Tiktok, KZbin, etc. have options that encourage this, and when people participate in it, it genuinely makes their adhd worse. I think it's fine if someone speeds something up a little bit, 1.5, maybe 2 if it's a video and they can still understand what's going on... but that's for audiobooks that they want to listen to for information, not entertainment. It just doesn't make sense because the media is made with specific focuses, and anime is ALREADY FAST PACED, most of them are. There's ones that are slow due to filler, but at that point just find out where the filler episodes are and skip them entirely bc there's no point to this. With 3x you literally can't even understand what's on screen.

while I do agree. It’s also important to note that a lot of the contents in a lot of anime is pure filler. Anime like frieren and fable just feels so short because all the scenes are relevant and simply good. Others just spend time on useless things. So I guess the outcome is people just don’t watch these type of shows vs people who watch them for what ever reason at 2xspeed

In terms of “watching” you right there shouldn’t be a issue of how someone watches something, however when it becomes beyond watching like a discussion or a opinion is when the way you watch something then becomes important. Like for example if you want to have a discussion with your opinion on the voice acting of a anime you are watching, if you are watching this anime in a speed up form where all the voices becomes mumbled or a edited (outside of what has been professionally edited) state, you literally not hearing the voices at all in their normal natural state. Question then brings up to those people, how can you tell if the voice acting is any good or not? The actual answer for these people, they have no idea because they can’t actually tell. You of course have people who try to explain but normally they ended up getting disproven, you have to be super human to even tell a natural state on something that’s going fast as most people cannot do that. That is the issue at play, by watching something that is sped up you then start sacrificing your full right to have a discussion or opinion of whatever you are watching mainly outside you generally talks, it especially becomes more sacrificing your right to review something as why should someone that speed watched something review anything when there’s a good chance they missed a lot of details. So again it’s not the actual watching but what comes afterwards is what the issue of speed watching something comes at play. (Side note, the reason why games do not have a right or wrong way to play them is because it’s just that, you “play” with video games and there’s definitely no such thing as a right or wrong way to “play” something. Watching on the other hand does actually technically have a right or wrong way to watch something mainly when doing it for learning something, as yes there is a right & wrong way to watch something to learn something. That’s why I don’t get why you try and used the right or wrong statement for video games in this because “playing” & “watching” are two separate types of action, entertainment & words)

Game journos were using this very same argument to support the idea of FromSoftware games having easy modes (which defeats the whole purpose of how those games are designed). There ARE right ways of experiencing each individual piece of media, the ones intended by the author, and trying to find "alternative" ways is almost always like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.
@-._____-
@-._____- Ай бұрын
@@inendlesspain4724 Not always true. Take Smash Melee for example. It was made to be a casual party experience, but people were able to have fun turning into a hyper competitive game, even though that wasn't what the dev intended. Same for other games where certain challenge runs are popular. But I agree that people who want to dumb down games to have forced easy modes are just trying to get participation trophies for doing the equivalent of watching the game on KZbin while tapping on a Bop It Toy. I liked early Touhou game's approach to easy mode: If you play on easy mode, you get the automatic bad ending and you don't even get the right to fight the final boss.
@inendlesspain4724
@inendlesspain4724 Ай бұрын
@@-._____- What you describe is usually done by players who've already played said games the intended way hundreds of times over anyway. My comment was mostly directed at people who want to dumb down not just games but entire mediums, even at the expense of the creative vision, because they refuse to adapt to the work and instead demand that the work adapts to them. Usually the same people who won't shut up about how gaming "needs to grow up", and their idea of gaming becoming a "mature" medium is turning it into movies with QTEs.
