What up #GustoGang , what's your favorite type of Chicago apartment building? Mine is the Courtyard Building, so unique!!
@bigjohn56673 жыл бұрын
I bought my first condo in a courtyard building in Uptown decades ago. Always liked the courtyard advantages. I've lived in the Chicago area all my life and would be happy to show you some of the places that I know of in the city that aren't widely known. Contact me if you are interested.

I love pre-war and anything art deco and victorian. The problem with some of these buildings is that while the owners may have updated the interior, they didn't insulate it. So, in the summer you fry and in the winter you freeze. I was living in one of these types of apartments during our -70 polar vortex winter. I knew I would be moving after that experience.

I loved living in a mixed use building in Hyde Park - it was so much fun watching the life on the street below. I didn't have a car but never needed it because everything was LITTERALY outside my door or down the block! Now that I have a dog, I would probably want to live in a two/three flat or courtyard building.

Great job, Luis. One option to mention for someone renting is to rent a condo unit. Often the building will be nicer and there may be an advantage to living in a building where most of the people are owners.

My boy Luis knocks it out the park again... You covered all the bases in apt living. The 1st apartment we lived in was a U-shaped, 15-flat building on the Westside. That place was Huge! We had 3-bdrms, large Kitchen-Dining & Living room & foyer. Today, a place like that would cost a grip. Next place we lived was a 6-flat with 1-basement apt & utilities on the other side. Another huge place w/a big back yard & lots of kids. I remember my Mother scolding me about not locking the door. Thought nothing of it until the folks on the 3rd floor had a visitor who mistook our apt for their & fell asleep on our couch🤣. I stayed in various 2-flats w/the owner on the 1st or 2nd flr. As an adult, MY first apt was in a 6-flat where my apt took up the back 1/2 of the 2nd flr. An older Whi-man(who had) x-mas decorations up yr round, had the apt up front. I guess the previous tenant allowed him to go thru her apt to get to the rear of the building to do things like take out his trash & walk his dog (but) I wasn't having it. My next apt was a 2-flat w/a basement apartment (Inwhich) my recently divorced(soon to be) would MIL take. Moved from there to a Wicker Park 2-flat, right on the blue line. We were so close to the tracks, my wife's brother drove trains & we'd wave at him on runs. When the train went by, you could forget hearing the tv or yourself. As my family grew, we went from the top apt to the larger ground floor unit. Moved down the street to a 3rd flr penthouse apt in a building that had 5-units 3-units up front 2-split level apts in the back Lovely vintage app. Working fireplace, word floors & Central AC. We'd go on the rooftop, BBQ, chill _ watch the planes line up to approach O'Hare. I could've lived there forever-but As WPark's property values started to explode(the) owner sold the building & we had to scramble to find a new place. Ended up relatively close to the area. On Ashland & Blackhawk in a much much smaller- but more expensive apt. With Parking being ridiculous & all the congestion & huge increase in renting the place on Ashland, We Left WPark, for The Beverly neighborhood on the Southside. I Figured why pay exorbitant rent when you can own? Out here, it's a family atmosphere & you get more bang for your buck-more space & no congestion. Best move I ever made. I got equity in a home & I remained loyal to the city. I didn't run out to the burbs, didn't abandon the city. I love Beverly.

I live in Buena Park in a 102 y/o apartment building. I’m in the SE corner top (6th) floor unit - one bed/bath and I’ve got 10 windows. I can see almost all of downtown from here. I the amount of light in nuts. I’ve also never needed AC because the cross-breeze is great. I happen to work outside so al ling as it’s cooler than noon, I’m fine with fans.

Man, when you showed that "luxury" building, my eyes popped. I said: "What the hell is that? You can live like a king or queen in Chicago in all those pretty places you showed before, and then you show me this weird bland ass building! This is luxury? Man, get out of here! Rich people will buy anything." Also, I hope that if I were to pay luxury prices that I wouldn't have to share a laundry room. There better be a washer in my unit at them prices! :D Seriously, though, Chicago looks beautiful. If it's chock full of gorgeous buildings like that, I'm sold! America lost its damn mind after World War II. They rarely build anything even a quarter as attractive as what you showed. Thanks, man!
