The amazing Terry Kath, looking his very best. Every time I see footage of him, it gives such a sad yank at my heart. It's like one of those tragic movies that, every time you watch it, you irrationally hope the tragic turn YOU KNOW is coming doesn't happen.

I'm always disappointed with the live versions of this song. My favorite part of the studio version is the trombone harmony at the end, but for some reason Pankow always chooses to play bongos on the live versions leaving there to be no trombone harmony.
@dfgall
@dfgall 8 жыл бұрын
timbales, not bongos. and you can't do overdubs in concert. I always thought the live version was far superior. - lots of energy especially when it rolled into 25 or 6 to 4
@at90percent
@at90percent 8 жыл бұрын
dfgall Yeah, but they don't need him to play timbales. That's what Laudir is there for. The trombone part is far more important than banging some extraneous drums.
@dfgall
@dfgall 8 жыл бұрын
fyi - it's Laudir. I assume you never saw them live in the 70's - I did. Putting horns aside, Chicago has always been very percussion driven. Laudir is very heavily involved in the long version. look up the essen/rockpalast show. I know it's a matter of personal taste, but they chose to do a trumpet solo. call the live version an ode to tito puente
@at90percent
@at90percent 8 жыл бұрын
dfgall Wow, you are just mister minor correction aren't you? I knew it wasn't spelled correctly and I should have googled it to not have to have you freak out about the mistake, but hindsight is 20/20. Anyway, I don't have to look up anything. It's my personal preference to like a band to play the song live the way they played it in the studio. Otherwise, just play play a different song why don't you? You probably never noticed the amazing harmony that Jimmy provided on the trombone, so yeah, the drums probably sound better to you.
