Somehow, even the worst quality footage and audio of this production is filled with more vibrance and life than whatever the current Broadway production is.

The first national tour started in St. Louis August 29, 1977 with Ann Reinking, Elaine Cancilla and Jerry Orbach. Penny Worth and Carolyn Kirsch took over from Sep 12, 1977 and were replaced by Gwen and Chita Apr 04, 1978 when Chicago was in Chicago (Mary McCarty also rejoined) the papers reviewed the show twice as a result of most of the original broadway cast returning mid way through their Chicago run. The first tour ended Aug 05, 1978. The next tour started Jan 23, 1979 and starred Don Murray (from Bus Stop) Kirsten Childs and Susan Streater. Don got terrible reviews but illness took him out for an extended period of time and the tour (which had traded off his name) was cancelled when he left Feb 18, 1979. Six months later July 05, 1979 Kirsten Childs, Melody (or Melanie in some articles) Adams and Bill McCauley continued the tour. This video is most likely from that leg of the tour. Kirsten left around April 1980.

Is this the only known recording of the entire original staging? i know there's excerpts from an abbreviated version in atlantic city in the mid 80's out there, but don't know if they're from a full recording...
