Aeroplane pilot is admitted to Chicago Med with worrying symptoms but not much can be found until Dr. Charles finds neurological signs of depression. Upon further analysis, he finds his patient to be a sufferer of Pica.
Season 2 Episode 18 "lesson Learned"
Dr. Halstead makes quick and difficult decisions when tending to a patient who was also his mentor in medical school. Dr. Rhodes performs a risky surgery on a young boy as an alternative to amputating his arm. Meanwhile, Dr. Charles and Dr. Reese tend to a patient who denies having suicidal tendencies. Also, Maggie takes an aggressive route when training a new nursing student and Dr. Reese continues to mourn the loss of Jason Wheeler.

PICA is dangerous, but also somewhat easy to deal with. Once diagnosed, the treatment is mainly about willpower and most PICA patients manage very well after being confronted with the hazards of their behaviour. But, sadly, there are those who cannot stop consuming the non-nutritional or hazardous substances. I know of an incident where a woman thought she was suffering from PICA, when she couldn't stop eating chalk. Turns out she was pregnant, as well as suffering cardiac tamponade and PICA. She is still dealing with her PICA, as of today.

@@Liliththelizard atleast you are aware, many people go through life without knowing they even have a mental illness. Its honestly shameful how its 2020 and we don't have universal care for mental health. Hopefully some day soon! And good luck on your journey! I used to suffer m PICA I couldn't stop eating ice or frozen vegetables. On top of that I kept falling asleep randomly. I had some blood tests turns out I had anemia and was put on super strong iron tablets for months ... I'm ok now but, every now and then I get a wee craving for ice. When you are in the grip of PICA there are no words to describe just how delicious it is or just how strong the compulsion is to eat it... you just find yourself eating it without realizing, even waking up in the wee small hours of the morning.

@@cloudymew Oral fixation not ASMR. If you feel the need to always be chewing or have something in your mouth you develop oral fixation. Usually happens to smokers who are too used to having a lit or unlit cigar in their mouth and it's usually easily treatable with non harmful substances like gum ( or the nicotine gum for smokers ).

PICA is often seen in pregnant women. The theory is (or was) that the body is so starved for minerals, the women start sucking pennies and dirt. They said it was like a natural craving gone to the next step. For me, I was lucky. It was limes. 3 or 4 a day, pulp and all. The heartburn was surreal but I couldn't not eat them.

I've been anemic my whole life and my thing is wood and paper products, my parents actually had to stop buying me wood pencils bc I'd chew them down to the lead, once on a particularly bad period I ate a whole sticky note while in class. It's gotten better though and now I chew ice to cope which is the safest for sure hut some people have it really bad and it's scary

I used to have pica but eventually I grew out of it. I’d eat rubbers (erasers). Only a specific type though. Like it had to smell and feel a certain way or I wouldn’t eat it. But I think I went through about 5 ish rubbers over the course of a couple years. And that might not seems like a lot being they were small. But a child eating rubbers isn’t exactly a healthy or nutritious thing to do.

Aaliyah Revoy UwU the chances of this being on Netflix anytime soon has 0% chance sadly before the program has been re-run endlessly on streaming services and secondary cable and free to air TV. Simply put it is all about the $$$ ! 🇦🇺
