There is a russian underwater rifle (APS), it fires a needle like round with an unrifled barrel
@C.K.D20012 жыл бұрын
Uses a specially made 5.66mm calibre steel bolt however, it was made in 1970 and wasn’t used until 1975 where it sometimes still gets used today it’s extremely inefficient and ineffective due to its heavy and bulky manner.

6:40 Because standard ammunition does not work well underwater, a common feature of underwater firearms is that they fire steel darts instead of standard bullets. The barrels of underwater pistols are typically not rifled. Rather, the fired projectile maintains its ballistic trajectory underwater by hydrodynamic effects. The lack of rifling renders these weapons relatively inaccurate when fired out of water. While underwater rifles are more powerful than underwater pistols and more accurate in out-of-water applications, underwater pistols can be manipulated more easily underwater.

Then there's DGS' MEA supercavitating munitions, with which they claim their .50 cal can hit a target a kilometer away in atmosphere when fired 5 metres underwater

Guns with harpoon-like ammunition have been tested but the results showed that its really not worth it, since the guns and the ammunition are both fairly complex and therefor expensive to manifacture and the effective range was super short (around 40-50 feet if i remember correctly)

Love that Obama impression. Never fails to put a smile on my face. Just FYI, OBama's drone strike record was already broken in the first two years of the following president. He didn't just break that record, he surpassed it by 20% at that point. Obama had almost 235 drone strikes per year, while his successor had 1121 strikes per year, almost 5 times as many.

It's got said many time in the comments, But the underwater ammunition does exist. Even a few years ago, the USSOCOM designed the cav-x bullet, Which can go about 50 meters when fired underwater. A guy also made a underwater 'Suppressor' so he can shoot Lionfish safely underwater, For those that don't know, Lionfish are bad for the environment.

There are both underwater guns and underwater bullets. Underwater guns are usually pretty weird, and shoot harpoon-like projectiles. They don't really work above water. Underwater bullets (which could be loaded into a normal firearm) are supercavitating ammunition. They rely on the property of supercavitation, whereby if you design a projectile correctly and launch it really fast, an air bubble forms around it and reduces the higher friction of water. These rounds can be used above water, underwater, and to shoot into or out of water, but of course they will not be as effective as what you would normally load for above-water situations.

They have ammunition design for use underwater, yes, but generally speaking, most mechanically sound, mostly air tight ammunition will work underwater, given that the firing mechanism is in working order. You might have some funny business with the round and possibly firearm once it goes off but it'll work. Powder contains its own oxidizer so it doesn't actually need air to fire. In space, same thing, though, I'm pretty sure you'd have to have a specifically designed/modified weapon to work reliably in a vacuum though, after a while, "contact welding" becomes a possibility.

Yes there are underwater bullets. They used to be long darts, but now they've gotten much shorter. I think. I read this a while ago.

Underwater bullets do absolutely exist. They require a purpose built gun to be fired but they do in fact exist.
@Shiftry872 жыл бұрын
The problem with shooting a gun underwater is the resistance or the drag of the water effecting the bullet. So instead of a well rounded bullet underwater guns uses a VERY pointy and thin niddle like bullet to reduce as mutch water resistance as possable to increase it´s range. Even so u can forget firing at any medium distances, Underwater u are looking at very short distance shoots if u want the round or needle whatever u wanna call it to actually reach its target.
