The Fallout series had immense respect and trust among gamers. Previous games had been groundbreaking and immersive, setting the bar of storytelling. the best part is that isn't even the end of the story, they kept continually fucking up after this video was made; my favourite was that they finally added NPC's to the game (which should have been in from the start), and some of the NPC's roam around and do things to seem more immersive, like sleeping, using things in the environment, and looting corpses....except the last one became an issue BECAUSE THE NPC's STARTED LOOTING PLAYER CORPSES; did you have a favourite gun that took you hours to get and you've put resources into it? not anymore, because an NPC just looted your corpse when you died (probably because of some bug or another), and now that item is gone forever, because the NPC's don't actually carry the things they loot to prevent players from just killing every NPC they saw and treating them as walking treasure chests, they just delete whatever they loot.

By the way, a thing the Internet historian forgot about the the whole "pre-order special bundle" fiasco (the one with the canvas bag + helmet and other things) was that the helmet it shipped with was...well..bad. And I mean bad. Some had mold inside of them, some had a foul stench that reeked for days, some were faulty and dinged up. Hell, I've read reports that people even found cockroaches inside them...or should I say radroaches? Either way, same shit different story. But it doesn't end there. The pay to win feature mentioned was a tool that you could use in game that allowed you to fix (if I remember correctly) your robot companions (that fight with with you) and give them full health. This gave players who bought it an edge over those who didn't as the robots could be pretty overpowered. And the repair kits used to cost $5...each...for one use...yep. One. Fucking. Use.

Everything in this video is absolutely true. I was one of the many unfortunate individuals that pre-ordered the game and I was never given a refund. I had played the closed-beta leading up to the official launch of the game. I'd experience many bugs while playing the beta, but the one I remembered the most was the invisible and invincible enemy that chased me until I died. It was a really funny experience looking back, but it did piss me off at the time. Everyone who played the beta thought they would fix many of the issues and bugs before the official launch of the game. They fixed a few lol. One thing that really pissed me off as a player was the insane and stupid difficulty of acquiring nuke codes to use the nuke in a multiplayer server. This feature of the game got people excited. The concept was a player could nuke part of the map to kill random players for fun and then go to the nuked site to kill legendary monster spawns to get better loot. A very interesting concept, but acquiring the nuke codes was fucking annoying. As a player, you had to get eight silo codes for the same silo launch site before the silo codes disappeared from your inventory after the WEEKLY reset. (By the way, there were three silo launch sites meaning there were 24 codes in total.) After assembling the infinity codes you also had ONE attempt to solve a puzzle by decrypting them and if you failed to solve the launch code after gathering all of the silo codes they wiped and disappeared from your inventory. There was even more dumb fuckery you had to go through just to nuke an area for a couple of hours, but I won't get into that. My friends and I tried this, but it takes many hours to do this and after two months we got uninterested in the game and stopped playing altogether. Other more dedicated players were able to do this and I salute them. Fallout 76 is the sole reason why I never pre-order a game anymore and wait for the reviews before I invest my money. I still get PTSD from this game.

The thing about Todd is that , at this point, he isn't really "in charge" of anything. He has admitted in multiple interviews that, even tho he's listed as the creative director for a ton of projects, he no longer works on a single project at a time but is mandated to go from division to division and checking up on games while they're in developement. Hell, he has admitted to not having even programmed a single line of code since Oblivion(which came out in the mid 2000's) due to this. You could even make the argument that Oblivion was the last game where Todd was REALLY in charge of everything And obviously, the quality of Bethesda's games suffers because of this. They have no direction and the people who have the experience are being dragged around the company for no reason Kepp in mind, however, this doesn't absolve Todd of other bad things he's done. Like lying about Fallout 3's endings and the entirety of 76. Or, arguibly even more agregiously, the infamous Oblivion horse armor DLC which is arguibly the first instance of microtransactions in a video game ever
@crimsonknight70113 жыл бұрын
Some of the other things that I remember was that they came out with a cosplay Fallout helmet you could buy but they had to do a mass recall due to mold issues with the materials used in it. Another was a “Mr. Handy” robot that would clean your base for you, they admitted that it was SUPPOSE to be included in the game for free when it was released but they “FORGOT” to put it in. So months later they put it into the game but in their Atomic Shop at a price, so something that was suppose to be in the game for free you would now have to pay extra for, and don’t forget that this game was sold at full price of $60 begin with. They also started to ask the players for suggestions on things that would make the game better and I remember one being a fridge so that food didn’t expire as fast and another being repair kits because armor was breaking faster. So Bathesda said thank you so much for these suggestions and they went and made some of the items in the game.......However, these items were then put in the Atomic Shop at an additional price. Lastly there was a group of data miners I believe and they made an online map of the game and listed where you could find everything which took lots and lots of time and effort. During this time people were hacking the game or using glitches non stop like killing people from across the map. So they heard about a bug/glitch and the group used the glitch over and over to figure out how it was done. They took all the info and reported it to Bethesda showing where and how this glitch was being done, Bethesda’s response, permanently ban their accounts for excessive exploitation of a glitch. Bethesda also refused to explain or email them back on what happened while the actual guy that was using this glitch to harm others was given a 1-3day ban only.

They probably would have forgiven all the deceptive marketing. All the other stuff was akin to the straw that broke the camel's back, except the straw was a 20 ton block of Cement, and they decided to stack several dozen of the on the camel's carcass. Had they done this like Fallout 4 or Skyrim people would have just waited for the absolutely insane modding community to fix everything in roughly 6-8 months, but no Bethesda had to go go full EA/Acti-Bliz, and ruin what flimsy good reputation they had undeservedly acquired.

No Man's Sky managed to recover completely from the disaster, cause they went FULL ON WORK MODE. Somehow, and they pulled the game forward to be ACTUALLY good, exceptionally good even, maybe. If there are other companies SCREWING their brand name? Yes, yes there are. There is Blizzard, really loved company, one of their franchises, the Diablo Series, they had a convention when they promised to show "The Future" of said franchise after years of silence about it. Considering every single Diablo fan is a Hardcore PC Gamer, pretty much exclusively, they decided, because everyone that was not a Hardcore PC gamer loved Mobile Games (somehow), it would be a great idea to launch the next title as a Mobile Exclusive Paid to win game.... And It was another disaster, they got Booed, in their own convention (that was exclusive to their company), "Luckily" they remained SILENT since that, just a couple of months ago they mentioned that game again in a stream. Funny enough, when their costumers asked if there was going to a PC game of Diablo, because thats what the costumers cared about, they said No, no plans for that, The booed happened, and the developers asked "Dont you guys have PHONES?!?!?!?".. So yeah, it went horrible.

Bethesda got famous from Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Fallout 1 and 2. So when they released Oblivion, there was a huge hype. The game was good, but far inferior to Morrowind. At least according to everyone who played Morrowind. Then they released Skyrim, which was way better than Oblivion, but still inferior to Morrowind. At least according to the fans who played Morrowind. Its funny how Morrowind is always the best RPG ever made, according to the fans who played Morrowind. Through the modding community, this game is still alive and well even today. According to Todd Howard, "working on Morrowind was the heaviest burden of his life" as if the rsult wasn't worth the effort. As far as the Fallout-series are concerned, Fallout 1 and 2 are still fan-favorites, along with New Vegas. Wonder why, lol. They still use the same old re-patched game engine they have since Morrowind, so the modding community are well used to patching out the same bugs on every new Bethesda release over the years. Lately though, Bethesda seems to have had an interest in monetising modding on their games. Along with the complete destruction of their brand from fallout76, that's the nail in the coffin for me. If the modding-community dies, then so does my interest in playing their games. Sad, really...

I feel bad for the fallout community going through this. I just stopped pre ordering stuff all together and am not purchasing pre order bonuses. Etsy has people that make cool stuff from the things they fan about and like internet historian said, they give a shit. Great Reaction, I was shocked when I watched it myself. I hope you see the no man sky one. They turned around and the game is pretty fun now.

I was the designated tester of my group of friends and fans. In it from day one and yes, the original release was absolute garbage. He didn't even mention everything that went wrong. When they had their "Break it Early Test Application" (BETA), they screwed up the launcher so that the client downloaded the like 70 gigs or so of data but if you clicked start after that and before the beta servers were up, the client would delete the entire game and start the download from scratch. Not a problem of course... If it wasn't for the fact that they also had the bright idea of having only two hours or so of game time per beta event before shuttering the servers again. So what, people might think. So a few hundred early birds press the button too soon and miss out, tough luck right? Turns out they ALSO somehow managed to mess up the countdown on the client vs. when the servers actually went live. So thousands of people waiting for the servers to come up so they could get as much play time as possible during the beta counted down the seconds, pressed start and got surprised with a download bar with hours of expected delay... for a 2 hour timed event. They also had a cringe-worthy launch stream featuring the voice actor for Rick & Morty and Ninja of Fortnite fame. The voice actor tried, but you could tell nobody was enjoying even a few minutes of game time. It was horrible to watch.

Another thing was that Fallout 4 and Skyrim have had TONS of Mods like making the dragons look like Thomas the Train or having some companions dressed like Woody and Buzz Lightyear. So people asked if 76 would allow Mods, during the the lead up to release Bethesda repeatedly said that they loved Mods and assured people that the game was Built with modding in mind. Then the release came and if I remember correctly they started to ban players left and right for using mods claiming that it broke terms of service and created an unfair player experiance because this was a game where you were on the same map as random other players and your mods were affecting their game too.

ManyATrueNerd did a video on the Atomic Shop. Its an even-handed summary of everything that changed with the game and its microtransactions over the course of its history up to the video's release and it continued a fair bit past where this video ends, and despite it being totally neutral and fair, it remains the most scathing review of the game that I've ever seen. Suffice to say, the Atomic Shop quickly stopped being about cosmetics only and into "Convenience" on top of a whole lot of other screwing around.

11:55 oh they did they did they tried to refuse. Todd Howard's request but every time they did it went something like this. Dev : " yeah Todd we need to talk. " Todd : " sure " Dev : " look Todd I'm not going to sugar coat this but the old engine was fallout 4 is not going. Working to literally patch things up with the old engine it's not going to work if you make the world 10 times bigger. " Todd : " so what what are you trying to say. " Dev : " what I'm saying to you is we need to delay to get a better engine for this. Whole massive big world you want to do you want to make it 10 times bigger make the enemies 10 times scarier. But we just can't do that with this current engine that we have. And plus most of your employees have been worked to the Bone to make this game. I say that we delay it until another year or two maybe five at most. To make this game perfect the way you want it. " Todd : " yeah no we're not going to do that we're going to stick to the old engine that we have and. Just work with it from there we're not going to delay we. Promised our customers a fallout 76 online game and we're going to give them fallout 76. " Dev : " Todd the game is going to be shit there's going to be glitches and bugs everywhere even if. We patch up most of the bugs there's just going to be some major bugs and glitches. Glitches that could crash a game and crash the consoles of these players. " Todd : " that's okay we pushed out a game and that's what matters we fed the consumers. What they wanted they wanted a fall out. Game and there we got it even though we totally promised them a elder scrolls game after fallout 4. " Dev : " So basically you want to push out a crappy game just to fulfill some kind of promise. All right Todd people going to be pissed off hey what about those canvas bags that you promise. Should I get to work on that you know call the companies about canvas. " Todd : " no it's fine we'll just give him some neon plastic they won't know the difference. "

The saddest part is that the engine isn't even the problem. The modding community on PC have proven that it can handle current and next gen graphics and is capable of some crazy stuff. The problem is in Bethesda's inability or unwillingness to properly upgrade the damn thing. And its not like an old engine being used for current games is new either Rockstar has been using the EXACT same engine for nearly ten years and every game they release still looks better than the last

He didn’t even get to talk about Fallout 1st; the annual $100 subscription that was just as buggy. The moldy power armor helmets. There’s a lot wrong. Also the fact that Bethesda got applause for saying that they would be adding NPCs into an RPG... They also make the Elder Scrolls series so boycott that as well if you’re doing so with Fallout and their new IP Starfield. I think that’s what it was called.
@Talendra3 жыл бұрын
They must it in the video, but the helmet was also later recalled due to mold risk

Don't forget the fact that they were taking an unstable, out of date game engine that was tailored for role-playing games that are generally single player experiences like previous Fallout and trying to retrofit it so it's now suddenly a persistent world of massively multiplayer online content.
@NdxtremePro3 жыл бұрын
What's worse is they have the Elder Scrolls Online engine that was already made for that purpose. They had experience porting content form the old engine to the new one.

I'm just glad I always wait for actual gameplay footage from non-shill content creators before deciding on whether or not to purchase any game; as well as not mindlessly buying any game dev/company's next game just because I loved their previous one, just like with the witcher 3 and then cyberpunk 2077, or the megaman x series and then mighty no. 9.

Oh oh oh, ANOTHER one was that the game had NO NPC’s, all the missions and such were from holo tapes. Months later they announced they would introduce NPCs into the game with a DLC. However instead they came out with a “Fallout First Membership” which was a one year membership that would cost $100 and let you have Private Servers. People were obviously furious about this since they thought private servers should be free and not cost more money. Then to the surprise of no one the private servers were full of bugs and glitches too, I believe people were able to log onto peoples “private” servers, kill them, loot everything they owned, and then switch to another server.

Honestly I showed this to my bosses (we are not in videos games just a general company making products), they were shocked. They were like everything single thing was WRONG. They messed up everything single thing about this game, the marketing, the launch, the merchandise, everything was a mess. It’s almost legendary how they screwed up. Bethesda should be ashamed

Bethesda Fallout games and Todd Howard's are a wonderful case study how bad and downright moronic most companies operate. Despite how bad it gets, if you're enough of a scumbag you can always lie and deceive your way out of a hole by blaming everyone else or just playing dumb. Any competent boss would at least put Todd on a leash and find a new spokesperson whose reputation is not a complete joke by now if not outright fire them if only just as a scapegoat.

Bought it to play with a friend who got it on release day, despite trying to refund within the first week of it being out I was denied. Glad I only bought the standard version (because of course there are premium versions) but given it was discounted to $30 within a month of release I'm slightly annoyed about my $60.
