Dear Chick Corea, I was a young boy at the age of 15 when I tirst heard this piece on" light as a feather". This music touched me immediately and so I started to buy many of your records. My love to Jazz has allready started and the adventure is still going on! At the age of 48 I started playing piano(much to late!!) and now I`m 54 and started playing "Spain" in an easy version. But I am very abmitious to play it (nearly!) as you do! My teacher says it would be possible, if I work hard. And I will do so!! Thank you for your music, it has changed my life in a beautiful way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! kind regards Theo

I've posted many comments expressing my grief at the loss of this musical genius leprechaun. I'm tired of the grief. I just want to bask in the joy that he shared when he played with his band. Look at the many youtube videos of him playing live. There's always a moment when he looks at the guys, and smiles. That is the joy of Chick. Thank you for creating the music magic, the complex bebop rhythm's of our life. RIP Maestro.

The days we live in.. you can not only see and hear in great detail what this great master is playing, But he also shares a lot of beautiful insights of his playing. There is no excuse to not evolve incredibly fast as a musician with all this benefits..we only need perseverance and, taking things from easy to this and beyond. I am closely to intermediate keyboard player but this still looks kind of hard to get my head around it. so i will save this 'lesson' and get back to it after i get better a understanding of the language and the voicings.

I was very high one night during my college days. I'd smoked some strong weed that made me very high, but gave me an exaggerated sense of awareness. I was alone all night, listening to a number of Chick's piano masterpieces, including his seminal album "Now He Sings, Now He Sobs". The music sounded magnitudes beyond angular and supremely atonal. Many notes were out of place and out of tune, yet the music was blowing my mind. That night, I fully grasped Chick's genius and how deeply Thelonious Monk had influenced him. Said influence can be appreciated in spades in his second and third improvisations of this video. My favorite musician, and I shall play with you in paradise!

When my son was 7 years old, I was playing an Elektric Band CD in the car and when he heard Charged Particles, he became obsessed with it and your music! It was an amazing, life-changing moment! On 8/12/17, we went to Detroit (he from Orlando and I from Columbus, OH) to see you in concert. It was his present to me for my 69th birthday. When you opened the show with Charged Particles, it was indeed a very special, cosmic moment for us! What we're looking at is a master pianist, especially during the second phase of his video, showing us mere mortals (slowed down a lot) how this song was chord & melodically constructed. There are lots of budding pianists who may have hear the tune, but need a 'visual' blow-by-blow as to how to follow. Chick is a master of innovative "Jazz". Therefore, those who are interested in this (relatively) complex piece, should point their eyes forwards.

Wonderful to see his fingers instead of his face when he is playing his music. I would really like to hear him explain his thinking behind his playing. His harmonic and melodic concepts combined with classical technique makes him an absolut master musician and pianist. What is so refreshing about his playing is that he is not a lick player like so many. He can play this song a thousand times, and every time his solo would be completely different; different motives, lines and shapes, different rhythms. And still, it will always sound like Chick. still, there are explainable concepts behind his playing. If he would only share them with us. All we can do is analyze his music and guess. Which is a good start of course.

Having watched people like this for decades and studied on my own as much as having a full time job allows…..I have concluded that they are just much more talented and intelligent than me 😊. These guys could do amazing stuff at 10 years old. Sure they learn harmony and practice a lot but they’ve just got some innate ability that allows them to master the keyboard (or whatever instrument) in a particular way.
@musictrainingonline8 ай бұрын
@@roddykennedy9476 Agreed, except that I wouldn't necessarily assume that a talented person is also an intelligent person. And as talented as Chick obviously was, he was also a very hard worker, and was the sun of a jazz musician who had connections to some of the best musicians at the time. So, just being talented may not lead to brilliancy as it did with Chick. I would have given my last shirt for the opportunity to take a lesson with him!
