Does your insurance company know that? Sometimes they can be a little uptight. I'm in the process of buying a house, and the insurance company said that I would have to rectify a fist-sized patch of moss growing on an ornamental exterior lattice.

When I was a teenager, my Dad built a rectangular brick pit with bricks he reclaimed from somewhere (I still remember helping remove the old mortar). It seems like the sides were about waist high and we filled the bottom 2/3 or so with sand and then used the cleaning casualties from the brick reclaim to make a bottom for it - Just kind of forcing the pieces in where they fit; yet leaving a fairly flat surface for the charcoal. Dad also got a couple of old commercial cooler racks from somewhere ( the shape of the pit was designed around them) that were about 2"smaller on a side than the pit. He welded some small bar stock to the corners of the racks so they stuck out about a foot from the pit's sides and capped the handles with wood grips made from wooden dowels. When cooking on the pit, the fire was built as usual. When ready, the meat was placed on one grate, and the other grate rested on top of the meat. Turning the meat was easy, but required two people. Each person went to one end of the pit, crossed their arms, and grabbed the handles. Then the pair uncrossed their arms in tandem to flip everything at once. It seemed to work pretty darned good and was nearly free to build, requiring purchase of only some quick-krete and a few bags of sand. If I remember correctly you could do at least a dozen half-chickens at once. The down side was that it was the pinnacle of set-it-and-forget-it; it could not be moved when he did.

That's a pretty sweet little grill! That would be perfect for tailgating, or camping! I wonder, could it do a nice rib-eye justice? --------------- You know, your videos always make me smile, T-Roy. The second I see you smiling and happily introducing your video, to the last moment with your sincere goodbye, they never fail to make me happy. I just got into smoking with a PBC, and its a little challenging in Boston with the temps only in the high 30s but I've smoked 4 times in the first week with amazing results and a lot of lessons learned. Thank you for being one of the driving forces behind me getting into smoking food at home. I look forward to every video of yours. Cheers, T-Roy!

Thanks for doing the video Troy. We love these grills up here. Not sure why but it seems to give a distinct flavor compared to other chicken. Possibly because its not losing juices being flipped with tongs or other tools. Glad you enjoyed it. looks can be deceiving as you can pack up to 10 pounds of chicken on it. dont be afraid to stuff it to the capacity for a larger cookout because the results will be the same, AWESOME CHICKEN

If you like doing videos of different Grills, look up a Konro Grill. It's a Japanese grill (which I know is a much different style than your channel typically features) and if you really want to do it right, use Bichotan Charcoal. That is by far the best charcoal on the planet. Burns longer hotter and doesn't flare up. Just a thought. I really enjoy your channel! Keep up the good work

Just a tip for the balancing - if you put more weight on the side you flip it from (where the pegs come out) it will ensure the grill doesn't rotate at all. It doesn't have to be perfectly balanced, just make sure it's heavier on the flipping side.

Hey Joe, I found the tumbleweed starters at Home Depot I think? Perhaps Lowes? Yeah man, this little grill would be great for the beach or a fishing trip, or camping! Or tailgating!!! @handcannon1388
@handcannon1388 7 жыл бұрын
I don't know ... "Ker-Flop Grill" sounds like you would make one flip and it would dismantle itself - the basket just catching enough of the tailgate to impart a little spin before it lands (ker-Flop!) on the ground. Where you just look at it, with a hint of a Clint Eastwood snarl. Staring; then you can only blink ... once ... twice ... because there are children around. All kidding aside, this grill looks like a simple, inexpensive gadget that pretty much performs as advertised. That makes it okay by me. I'd probably buy one myself, if I did more camping.

It is very easy to clean up. If you use the wide foil, just fold it up and toss it away along with all of the ashes and drippings. You can take the base down to a creek or water and wash it. So far, I haven't found anything sticking to the aluminum base or sides. The grill will need to be brushed though.

@TROYCOOKS
@TROYCOOKS 7 жыл бұрын
I did have a salt slab and it did cook some fantastic steaks and shrimp, but mine cracked after just a few uses and I never got another one. My advice would be to warm it up slowly and let it cool slowly. And don't put anything really cold on it while it's hot. If you will be at Keith's this Labor Day, I will do my best to make the trip. I really would enjoy getting to hang out with you!!!

Yes, it is very portable. The size mentioned on their site says if folds down to 3.5 inches high and it will fit into a 19 inch box. So, I'm thinking it's like 18 inches square, so around 324 sq inches cooking space.

Looks great. But is it worth the $$ considering a stand up charcoal grill can be had for under 50$. Seems it's more a learning curve on how much charcoal to use per grill and buying some tongs to flip food. Or I'm just cheap ;-). Thx T-ROY !

That was great stuff Troy. It looks like a good portable unit for specific purposes like you mentioned (camping, etc). This would explain the thin material.
