That’s Kirayoshi (his son) crying in the background. My guess is the explosion scared the baby and when he heard his dad was upset he was upset to. I think babies can sense when adults and people are stressed so they respond to it.

I believe its the episode that Molly (obrien's daughter) fell into some.. Time portal? She came out having lived on her own for something like 10 years. I think this is Miles trying to make a machine to reverse the incident
