I loved pretty much every track on 3.15.20 and Atavista is basically improved in most all ways. Still wish the original was streaming as there is a track cut from Atavista and I think the new mix of Psyclocibae is for the worse

Rhis re release and review have been so great for me as a Gambino fan. 3.15.20 quickly got the "Cherry Bomb" treatment from me upon initial release. I had to accept that i was listening to something very sloppy and all over the place, wishing it sounded better but still loving what i was hearing. I still ended up loving a lot of these tracks, and to hear them all sounding so sharp and well made was awesome. Id probably give this thing an 8, loved it, i know its gonna be spinning all summer

6 or 7 was what I was expecting based on the history of Fantano's opinion on Gambino's music. But I'm actually not mad at your take. Album is mixed better for a fuller, more vibrant sound but maybe doesn't feel as fleshed out lyrically or structurally. Think I just overall enjoyed it more.

Changing the title of every track from mere numbers to actual titles alone is a big improvement on the album. I literally had to either sit through the album all the way to the end just to listen to my fav cuts or literally jot them down on my notepad or something because I just couldn't recall what every track sounded like just off their titles which were nothing but an menagerie of numbers.

The instrumentals on "To Be Hunted" (previously "19.10") sound so drowned out. I am happy that some of the harsh noise extended outros were trimmed, but I'm sad the 12.38 into 19.10 transition is gone. Human Sacrifice is a great addition, however.

Really like a lot of the changes on Atavista record compared to the original. However, I kind of like some the original stuff from 3.15.20 (Though the mix on Atavista is definitely a lot better). I am super excited for the actual new and final record we will be getting from Donald later this summer.

wow ill be honest i had no idea that atavista was a rerelease as ive only just started listening to childish gambino; coming into it with fresh ears gave me a totally different perspective to the album and its concepts and how it felt when i thought it was actually his final album was so different. algorythm, time, and psilocybae had this odd melting achronistic sound that made me think of the past (which now i know it was actually a 2020 release makes more sense) that was so floaty and fun and i really like all three of those songs; i saw in another comment that 21s verse was ripped from a different song but i felt him feeling slightly out, like how i felt arianna sounded, added to this "flipping through radio stations in the late 2010s" vibe that i was feeling. idk just interesting !! glad this isnt his last project though i was a little disappointed even though i really liked this project a lot (even got the vinyl)

Time is pretty good as well, that beat feels atmospheric and spacey at times, I'm not a fan of Ariana but she killed it too, if not for Gambino this should've blown up for her but Gambino's weird release ruined all chance of that. Honestly the 3 track run from Time to Psilocybae to To Be Hunted is the best part of the album.

Love the weaponization of the concept of raw muddy instrumentals vs unfinished in his critiques - the original album is good if you like your pizza on a napkin instead of a porcelain plate. Hell it was almost like it was trying to make a statement. Tony probably loves that FCPremix instead of that g.e.p.g.e.p. tbh and that is ok - you spend enough time reviewing music to the point that overproduction tends to roll better off the palette when cramming music because it is less jarring from album to album.

Honestly the run from Atavista to Sweet Thang is pretty flawless to me. Time has grown on me a lot and Ariana’s updated vocals are fantastic, Psilocybae is still vibey as hell, and To Be Hunted is one of my favorite Gambino tracks ever. Such a banger. Idk how all of those aren’t in the best tracks.

I'm far more inclined to give this record a try just based on the review alone, he gave an identical score to the recent St. Vincent album despite the unironic rave reception from both professional and community-based reviews alike. He also gave another similar score to the last KG&TLW album, which I also like it a lot.
