I recently wrote a college essay about the Kakure Kirishitan, or the Hidden Christians of Japan! Because Christianity was banned for at least two centuries, a lot of Catholic converts in Japan had to use symbols in Shinto and Buddhism to hide their religion. I thought to comment because that could be why the family in this game seem to borrow from all three religions. A lot of modern Japanese Christians still have these traces, especially families who are only recently converting back to the church.

Bro Chilla’s game playthroughs are usually comforting to me bc the atmosphere is simultaneously sort of goofy but also very quiet and eerie. This was just fucking terrifying. The eyes through the window about killed me, and that godforsaken Tanuki of all things getting turned around jolted me into my very soul and finished the job. Nasty. This was so well done and very scary.

Oh wow. While I always love the language lessons that comes with Gab playing Japanese games, this one - where the word itself means 'suicide', but the way it's written part of it means 'taking a picture of yourself' (or as she said that she remembered it 'to film yourself') - makes me think this is going to involved someone filming or taking pictures of their suicide, and it's immediately much creepier than I initially thought. 😱 ...and the lights in the background being off does bring the creepiness factor up even more. You're right about that, Gab! 😊 I'm bringing out the extra snuggly blanket for this one! 😅
@Wayazaexa42 Жыл бұрын

Although it would make things much harder, I do wish English had similar capabilities. As they are, puns are rarely taken seriously and are only really good for representing dark themes when combined with humour, such as Dahl’s story “Lamb to the Slaughter” (great short read). It’s really hard to get a creepy pun.

I admire the Chilla's Art team dedication to progress and to try new formats: starting with simple key hunting slender-like games, then "everyday" horror, and now touching the found footage analog horror style with some Mandela Catalogue vibe. Each new game has higher quality than the previous ones. Ofc they had hiccups, like Onryo, but they learnt from it and either improved or dropped it. This is why I think Chilla's Art is the best indie horror game studio from the current roster.

17:29 - My daughter had a phobia of using the toilet when she was a toddler because she asked one of her grandparents where it goes when flushed, and they told her the toilet, ehem, eats what is placed in it. As a result she was scared it might eat HER since she was sitting on it, so she'd hold it as long as possible then the inevitable would happen, then it would hurt since she held it so long so then she wanted to go even less. My wife and I would have to go on searches to find underpants hidden around the house where she had an accident, changed them and then hid them when we weren't looking, then do this until she had none left. This probably makes sense later, but I tried looking into the binary. The first time I tried translating, it came out simply as: "ã" So I tried somewhere else where I could select what language to translate as, and Japanese was there as "EUC-JP (Japanese)", so I tried translating binary to that, and it only came out with a question mark. So I'll update this comment for every one of these I get to, since it seems like they might link together later. Edit: there are so many ways to convert binary. So I only got question marks gor translating it to the previous 2 things again, so I converted it into decimal, hexadecimal, and octal, and I was getting pretty big numbers, but not 12. So I'm not really sure what's going on. Let's keep going. Edit: this time, for one translator I got the symbol for pi. For the second translator, I used the second Japanese conversion and got "オ", which is "o". The decimal related translations are all big numbers again. Edit: the fourth code, being the same as the first, gave pretty much the same results as the first, but this time I also checked the decimals. Most of them were big numbers again, but for hexadecimal I got "e3" instead of a normal number. Edit: the fifth code is another repeat, but the notification was very small for some reason. Edit: The sixth binary produced an upside-down question mark on the first translator, and "bf" when translated to hexadecimal. In the second translator, when translating to 'Shift JIS (Japanese)' it came out with "ソ", which is "so", I think. Edit: the seventh abd final code is a combination of previous codes, and the only difference I got was the second Japanese translation resulting in "繝", which didn't translate into anything written, but the verbal translation was "Ji en", which sounded similar to another form of translation. UTF-16 little endian and UTF-16 big endian. So I tried that, and got "菣", which translated into 'English' as "裣" (wut?), for little, and nothing clear for big. I can understand Japanese better audibly than I can read it, so I'm no help here. But the jap->eng translator said it means "clothes". It's worth noting that the number 7 is a holy number in Christianity, and is significant in many ways. For example, God rested on the seventh day of creation. It may be why this one is the first and only double-code, but maybe not. The numbers under each code when the notifications pop up might have to do with the time you've been playing the game, though. First code: 11100011 Second code: 10000010 Third code: 10110101 Fourth code: 11100011 Fifth code: 10000010 Sixth code: 10111111 Seventh code: 11100011 10000011 It seems the psychopathic kid thought a holy figure was talking to him, so he killed for him. And he grew up continuing to do so, which explains his appearance. He was wearing juvenile clothing, but grew his facial hair out like Jesus. Also, that boss sucked. It may be worth mentioning that I did all this while enjoying a couple smooooth White Russians, so I might not be operating at 100% lol. If you know anything more about those codes, please add to this comment! Thanks! This was fun!

Someone on the subreddit translated it to ‘Satan’ but I don’t know anything about binary to know whether they’re correct or not.

You have to string all of the bytes together at once. UTF-8 requires 3 bytes per letter for Japanese, which is why they don't seem to translate to anything meaningful separately - you need to translate them in sets of 3 in order to get any Japanese characters. You're also missing one of the codes - there are actually 8 codes in total, not 7. If you string all 8 codes together, you get 10 bytes - 3 sets of 3 bytes, which translates to 3 katakana characters, plus a control character at the end: サタン aka Satan

@@caggles It's also worth noting that the digits under the binary code go up by 6 every time. I.e the "devils number" according to some.

@caggles I thought of that but forgot to string them together lol. I was going to put all the binary together at the end, but thought most were just repeating, and naturally forgot to. Oops. Thanks for the comment! Guess it confirms who the entity is.

@@hannahblespecter5325 ah, that does make sense. Thanks for mentioning it! It's so interesting, isn't it? 😄
