Chiller Down Tripping Low Pressure York Air Cooled Chiller

This York air cooled chiller was tripping on low pressure safety. We got a call that the chiller down. At first glance it look like a nuisance trip but looking deeper into the history told a very different story. York chillers are good machines but at this age do have quite a few failures.

you can pull the history logs from the microboard via printer port. and it's possible to output real time operating data via printer port too, you just need to export the text file and convert it to excel for easier reading. I always do this when troubleshooting York chillers with inaccurate temp and pressure transducer.

I had almost the same problem on a ycav. It would trip on low pressure intermittently and when we would check it would be fine. Ended up swapping the suction temperature sensors between circuit 1 and circuit 2. Four days later the other circuit tripped on low pressure.

Ours had more chilled water pump issues then anything,and these occurred on different chillers. Also siemens was more of an issue,they had their own office in our facility.🤣😂 Also squirrels chewing wires!🤣 🥃🥃🍺🍺🍺🍿🎯 Stay safe. Retired (werk'n)keyboard super tech. Wear your safety glasses!

Go union. Do the hvac apprenticeship and get on the chiller crew in whichever company you choose. Most union contractors are good for any newbie. as long as you're helping out the chiller side, you'll head in the right direction

Your suction transducer went open circuit or out of its range which would cause and instant shutdown the same as when you disconnect a transducer which is extremely rare on York chillers so most likely the connections @ logic board or transducer itself were also causing an issue with poor readings causing the drain valve to open to your position(above 50% is high for your operational speed of about 50%) causing your low discharge superheat but also if the compressor heater is not working whilst compressor is non operational the system/circuit would normally take several minutes to get the discharge superheat to normal conditions. It is more common that the suction sensor reads too high(usually only by 2 DegC or so and this has the same effect on the discharge superheat on the effected system/circuit as the software suction superheat setting effects all systems/circuits? The software should control the feed valve to regulate the level sensor to its default 35% setting at whatever load but even if the level sensor is wrong the software is more concerned about the drain valve why you will very often see a flash tank level sensor read 5% or below and the feed valve be 100% open and the suction superheat being normal (4.5-5.5 Deg C in my case depending on target) and drain valve open normally no more than 40%. The Danfoss controller/controllers of the feed and drain valves can also be used for fault diagnostics via lights on the front and the service menu on the chiller interface. These chillers are designed to track the set point very accurately as the compressors have 1500 stages of loading via 0.1% adjustments via the VSD of course all at the same time as the drive controls them as one system effectively as they are not independently driven.

@@HVACTIME cool strange for a transducer to be intermittent though. Do love the yciv though best air cooled we made in my opinion got some with 120000 hours on compressors over here in the UK mainly down to the way the drive starts em nice and slow.
