First, the keepers are only to keep the seal aligned. It doesn’t keep it from flying apart. And it’s 750ml per 14 days. The YK seal is one of the easiest there is to change. And it doesn’t hurt a yk to turn it the other way by hand. Far more advanced than the LTD style compressor

Policy has changed! It now is based off of run hours, not days any longer. 750ml in 112 hours is the specifications for replacement.

With the ammonia compressors I service, we usually go by drip rate. They have weep catch bottles like the one in this video, so during our PMs, services, and follow ups, it’s good practice to note the level of oil in the catch bottles. If a weep catch is full, we empty it and check drip rate. I’ve had weep catch bottles stay the same level for a year, and I’ve had some overflow within a week! I like the fact that this seal comes preassembled. Not typical with the compressors I’m messing with. Also, one thing that is important to note: LOTO your motor when you service anything shaft related. If you’re doing and alignment, if your swapping a shaft seal, or even inspecting it, putting your hands on it, LOCK OUT THAT MOTOR 🤙

Good tip always get in the habit of using guide pins for removal and installation. Helps everything come off / install straight and properly spaced off shaft

Yep, York has come along way since old seal and O rings. Amsetting up the seal on, specially machined sheet of glass to verify how flat it really was. York alwsys said that they were true, but our machine shop found several that were way out from the factory.
@inothome2 жыл бұрын
Damn, looks like York engineers actually thought about the people who have to service the equipment down the road. I work on a lot of different equipment, nothing HVAC, but usually servicing is the last thing engineers think about. That seal assembly is easy to get to, has the jacking bolt holes, plenty of room to work. Usually shit is buried, can't see it, impossible to get a wrench on it, but in this case the total opposite! Would be nice if everything was designed with service in mind.

On refrigerante charge is dificul to say exactly amount because the charge is designed for the job. And That depends off the condenser temperature if is lower 60F on condenser entering engineer stars arad more refrigerant to make the efficiency close to design

Use some 5-6” guide pins so the seal goes in straight and the seal will not touch the key way You can easily make some just cut the heads some bolts.
@willborio8613 Жыл бұрын
So the std is the difference between the refrigerant temp and tbe chilled water leaving the systen? Example chilled water leaving at 42 and refrigerant temp of 40 would be a std or approach of 2 degrees. The york chillers we run calculate it this way. The carrier one does not. It will be a difference of 2 yet if you scroll through the menue to the std it will show a number mch higher.

It's supposed to be replaced when it fills the catch cup twice a month per YORK.
@arthurgest2954 Жыл бұрын
Catch bottle is 750 ml. If the leak rate exceeds a full bottle every two weeks the seal should be replaced

That is factory spec but for customers with low to no redundancy I recommend if they fill it in a month then its time. Properly working one should go years with minimal leakage.
