Not had a TV License now for 3 years. I got fed up of hunting for anything decent to watch on mainstream TV and I was becoming enraged with the woke and political slant. So no more live TV for me. It has been an epiphany. The only purpose mainstream media serves to me is it collectively captures the market for sh1te TV and keeps it in a toxic location I no longer have to access. If one of the mythical TV licence detector vans sat outside my house, I'd consider it a badge of honour and do a little dance.

About 10 years ago, I got a visit from a goon who told me I need a license. I told him that I didn't watch live T.V. and he told me that I needed a license just for owning a T.V. He lied to me so they owe me about 5 years of licence fee. I will never give them criminals another penny and I have been legally unlicensed for the last 5 years .

If people love the BBC then pay for it, the problem is forcing others to pay that only want to watch other channels. An even bigger problem is governments only ever talk about alternative ways to fund the BBC instead of making them compete like every other channel with subscriptions and/or Ads. A forced tax will be much worse than a TV licence if like myself I choose not to watch live TV or BBC iPlayer.
@danimayb
@danimayb Жыл бұрын
Oh yeah that will go down well! They probably stupidly think the public will see things better without paying for a licence and not question or not notice the added tax somewhere else. We will basically go from a semi-forced tax for watching broadcast TV, To a forced tax where it won't matter if you use any service related to TV licence or not.. You still pay for it. If TV licence itself isn't kicking up enough stink, That dumb move will ! I can't see them getting away with it in this country tbh considering the way emotions are heightened and current financial situations. Having said that, We never kick up a fuss big enough to make the government stop anything of financial importance to them.

Just last month we went out with some friends and a conversation started about the rubbish on TV so I told them all just cancel your licence but they all think that you need one if you own a TV. Forget the BBC ever showing adverts. They don't want to. They'd much rather have their money given to them than work for it and no government would ever allow it, anyway. Mostly thanks to CJ for setting out the facts so clearly, I've been licence free for a few years now. I found it easy, though, to pay it for just one month, at about this time last year, when the Rugby League Cup was being shown on BBC, and nowhere else. Before it started, I started to pay the licence fee and, when it ended, I just cancelled my direct debit.

5 years divorced. Never had a TV or watched anything requiring one. Shed loads of letters. No visits. It would be beyond pointless them attempting to visit in this particular area anyway. All sensitive let flats. Buzzer intercoms. Housing association so 4 inch thick doors with chains on. That's where the TVL tax is unfair. We could all be watching what we wanted and be safe from the bottom inspectors. But you live in a house with street level windows and you're borked if you watch stuff on an actual TV like DVD's that don't actually require a TVL. Because they will move heaven and earth to fit you up.

What I hate about the BBC is that you have to know someone who works there to get a job. From the presenters to the cameraman, right down to the tea lady. Its jobs for the boys, and if there is no job for someone's cousin then they will make one up. It not their money.

It beggars belief! I get at least one letter a month telling me that I am under inspection from the tv licensing twits. I do not watch live tv, nor any other method that the bbc deem illegal. Why do I have to declare it to them. I should maybe call the police every morning to inform them that I have committed no crimes the previous day. If I don't watch tv, then why should i declare it to the bbc! It just doesn't make sense. Another thing that amazes me is that they are endeavouring to push students into buying a licence, even though, when living in multiple person accommodation, the property owner should be liable for the licence. Surely, only one accomodation should be liable for the theft by the bbc. I'm stumped!

I had one of their goons turn up the other day. I declared that I don't need the licence a few years ago, and did so again when I moved. Stopped receiving the near daily threats shortly after. So I was surprised that one turned up. I was working from home and hadn't composed myself since getting up. Asked for me by name. I made known that it wasn't a convenient time and that I cancelled it years ago. He then asked something about my TV. Wasn't sure whether it was do I have one or do I watch it. I said no. He thanked me and skulked off. Are these visits something to worry about? I had music on in the background. Could've sounded like live TV I guess. Should I be worried that this is a prelude to something more?
@johnhooton8299

As far as I can remember at the end of each program on the BBC they would show "what's coming next" just a slot in which you could fit a few paid ads? but if this trend of cancellation of the licence continues, I would think advertisers would have second thoughts about spending any money with the BBC, so by 2027 this may not even be an option left open to them.

Hey Jon have you ever looked into the use of BBC Bitesize without a licence? My daughter's school sets her homework and tell her information can be gained from BBC Bitesize, when I looked into whether I required a licence for her to use it I found a BBC webpage discussing it. First paragraph states :- "Do I need a TV license to access this content? As with all BBC broadcast and iPlayer material, the new education content will only be available to those who hold a valid TV license.". So from reading this I assumed that no, she can't access Bitesize when she is at home. Then I continued reading and the second paragraph states :- "Some families from low socio-economic backgrounds can’t afford a TV licence. Can they still use the shows on iPlayer and Red Button? We appreciate this is going to impact a small number of viewers, however the licence fee is what allows us to adapt and make this content available in the first place. All BBC online content - including everything on Bitesize Daily Lessons - is available without a licence fee." That last sentence is interesting don't you think? "All BBC online content, including everything on Bitesize Daily Lessons, is available without a licence fee.". So, not only does that contradict the first paragraph, it also states ALL BBC online content, isn't iPlayer classed as 'online content'? Trust the BBC to write something so badly it's as clear as mud 🤣

I don't have any children - why should I pay to educate yours? I am not a woman - why should I pay for gynaecology services? The BBC is part of the fabric of the country - undoubtedly WE need more control of it though. That said, it has to be paid for by someone somehow. I think it should be put on the council tax where far fewer can evade it AND Capita get done away with entirely. A band D property will probably pay only £100 a year more than now (but no licence, remember). This process of persecuting people watching telly who don't have a licence because they have no money and really cannot pay is absurd.... But those of us who can pay for the BBC ought to - just like I am happy to pay to educate your children and offer gynae services to your wives.... These services are part of the fabric of the country. Stick it on the council tax, end of!

and that tax will never go away even in 50years when people won't know what a TV is. remember that road tax scandal with 12bln unused for road repairs? @@gytosas With respects The BBC *is* part of the fabric of this country. It IS NOT perfect (I have never said it is). In fact there is a stack wrong with it. So make its board subject to election so that we get a say on how the poxy thing is run! The BBC - something for everyone is true! Now, how do we pay for it as a society? Personally, I think that a broadcast tax precept (which covers the national radio stations too) should be put on the council tax. Just like the fire brigade, the police, the ambulance service. Those with bigger houses pay more. Those alone, on benefits pay less. No one who _CAN_ pay evades it making the rest of us who also CAN and DO pay pay more. The BBC is part of this country's culture. We have to pay for it. And I repeat, if you think you can dispense with what I view as a part of society, why should I pay for what you see as a part of society? Why do you expect me to pay for your children and wife's medical bills when I have neither of these obligations myself but you expect me to pay for your viewing or listening habits too? THINK ABOUT IT!

I don't think that any party will change the BBC funding model because there are more important things for them to be getting on with, such as the cost of living. Whichever party is in power, may, decriminalise none payment, but that's all

I really don’t get this being plugged into the mains rule. What has being plugged in to charge a device have to do with the bbc? Surly if anything being connected to a non licences properties internet to watch live tv is worse? A power cable in itself isn’t capable of receiving live tv. Are we saying busses need a tv licence if you watch iPlayer while charging on a bus? It’s mental

It’s been around for a long while originally introduced when the licence was managed by the GPO , , bit outdated now , was originally intended for students in halls of residence whose parents had a licence at home to use battery powered portable TVs , they just not bothered remove ,

it needs to stay the same!!... them that need to pay it, pay it. Them that don't need to pay it, don't pay it.... I would be apocalyptically annoyed if I had to pay it by way of a Media Tax on my Council Tax of some other stealth way.
@derektaylor7844
@derektaylor7844 Жыл бұрын
That’s the problem, can’t be added to council tax but could be collected through the council tax system showing as a separate payment , Every country that has stopped actual licenses have introduced other ways , France a dedicated local property tax , others such as Greece 2% levy on electricity , Germany a fixed €18 euro tax monthly on each household and so on , At least the current licence can be legally avoided ,

My wife pays for it and still watches all the channels (That I subscribe to) on the ROKU. I keep telling her to stop paying it. Still, she keeps saying that she only has it for the Tennis and one or two other pieces of shit that the BBC throws out, which are most likely 20-year-old programmes or some fricking nut eater talking about climate change whilst watching Badgers trying to kill cows with TB because she doesn't want to go to prison. I then pour another glass of cheap Merlot and watch another 20 minutes of some idiot racing around in an EV or how America is eating itself. Cheers.

Its the ones that pay it, which is fine but then are angry at those that dont pay it. For some reason they feel your the reason they are paying so much and they cannot get in their heads you dont owe nothing. These are the very people that will be demanding its added to general taxation. Ie they want me and you to pay for their tv enjoyment. Well aint happening pal, if they add to council tax i will refuse to pay it, if they add to general taxation i will be sure to fiddle my taxes so i remove that cost. Under no circumstances of any way am i paying fir others viewing pleasure unless of course tgey want to order me a pizza from the local takeaway once a month in return. Its pepperoni thx
