The thorium reactor story is a big one. I'm hoping more of these get built. Thorium can use the waste products of conventional nuclear reactors as fuel. It could be a solution to the nuclear waste issue. One problem is corrosion of parts. You need high efficiency recycling and part manufacturing to keep these types of reactors in shape.
@tsubadaikhan63327 ай бұрын
I was excited when I learned about Thorium, but people are struggling to make it economical. India has Thorium resources, but no Uranium, so they've been going hard on the Thorium, but lots of cost overruns are hurting the idea. Obviously solar doesn't work at night, but India built a large solar facility in one of their deserts, and it's producing electricity at a third of the cost of the Thorium Reactor they've got working. Production Scales and information sharing might improve this, but, of all technologies, Nuclear is the least shared between Nations. Particularly rivals like India and China. (They have some Border Disputes).

China a country by nature with a moral oriented practice focusing on ever improving and caring for the well being of its own people, an approach so much different from that of the US is the main reason why China has been able to achieve such unprecedented developments in such a short time in human history.

the supply chain part makes me angry, because we had that in the west and was abandoned. i worked in a company (makes aircrafts) that owned its own plant/vehicle maintenance, tool making, logistics and so on. there was even a department to paint the walls. A manager's headache for sure, give the mass to manage, but whatever you needed to be done was done the way you wanted, in the time you asked, and zero money was bled through external contractors. Then the kickback era knocked the door i guess.

Too many “haters” against renewable energy. I own solar a 10 kw system that has delivered 2.64 MWh current this year which is more than we can use and the system has operated flawlessly since installed several years ago. My son manages a large wind power farm that operates at a very healthy profit without any government incentives, contrary to popular belief. Don’t get me wrong I’m not against fossil fuels as they have their place too.

The key difference between the government in China and the USA (and most Western government) is that what China's government plan to do, they actually get it done while the USA (and most Western government) simply talk about it and debate in their Congress/Senate/Parliament/whatever. It's all about what's best for their nation and people; pure and simple!

Correct. In the span of 30 years, China has succeeded not only in reining in the Kubuqi desert's spread, but also turned 6,000 sq km of the desert-one-third of it-green.

WAYTOGO! Oligarchs eat your heart out. I facilitated for green towers in south africa-industrial solar plants with towers and turbines for updraft, greenhouse and collector. Very potent industrial solar plant. Still have the business plan. The Chinese would have started a glass factory in the kalahari, SA, which sand is ideal for glass for the 7km2 solar plant. OIL companies, oligarchs, made sure they floored it through SA government. We could have missed this whole orchestrated load shedding ordeal and could have given the energy from the green tower for free to SAfricans since the green tower would have generated income from 3x harvests from the greenhouse part. Oligarchs chase profits and control to the detriment of the people. SAfrica 's energy situation the best example of their criminal acts.

best part about solar is not its ability to be rapidly deployed. its the fact that solar doesnt have a bunch of moving mechanical parts that need constant maintenance. it just kinda sits there, and the panels need very little maintenance, and even after 20 to 30 years, they still operate around 80 to 90% of the original efficiency.
