Victim of a terrible famine in the early 1960s that killed nearly 20 million people, China is now facing a new scourge: obesity. Expansion and economic growth have changed the lifestyles of Chinese people, who are now consuming more and more Western-style food.
Only Human celebrates and explores the unique and personal qualities we all have. Our channel offers a range of TV series and documentaries about human experiences and life journeys - while looking at the challenges life throws at us, turning ordinary people into everyday heroes.

And what about the parents? No one is going to do something about them? The kids don't get this big by themselves. The parents lets the kids eat until they are unhealthy and then all of a sudden send them on camp to loose weight?! Where is the parental discipline in all of this?? I feel sorry for the kids. I really do. They don't know the dangers and risks with an unhealthy diet. Their brains can't comprehend consequences! That's why it is so effing important for parents to take responsibility and educate their kids in the home outside of school and to discipline them!

Finding happiness and purpose in life outside of food would probably help the issue of growing obesity rates a lot more than solely trying to just restrict/regulate food intake, increasing exercise, and shaming people for their fatness.

Well intentioned but the main flaw of these camps is that it doesn't teach clients how to change their lifestyle sustainably in the long run. Fitness is not something that is achieved through momentary intensity, it is something that is achieved through a lifetime of consistency.

At least the camps are a step n the right direction, then it's the responsibility of the parents to help and encourage the kids to maintain a healthy weight. It's easy to criticise but it's not all about exercise it's more about healthy eating and cutting out sugar....

The issue is clearly the food. Fighting "obesity" seems to mean targeting people rather than the causes of how they came to be obese. And when it is a general social problem, then society has a food related cultural issue somewhere it needs to address. It isn't just China, nor is China alone in wanting to ignore the cause and just go ahead and make money off of "fighting obesity". From what was shown, there were 3 problems that was causing obesity, either separately or together; what was eaten (fast food, etc.), the amounts eaten, and the expectation that someone else should come and "fix" the problem somehow without a change in lifestyle. Those who lost weight did so by changing their eating and exercise habits, but I doubt the rest will. The moment they return to their home environment they will return to their old habits and their old weight.

Blaming food obesity is like blaming guns for mass shootings. We have to address these problems at the root and stop playing wack-a-mole. We need to put a lot more effort into understanding the human mind and psychology. We could end or greatly diminish so many of humanity’s self afflictions.

Yeah I used to be morbidly obese eating fast food at least 2 times a day and I mean BIG meals. Now I take my vitamins, drink water, and eat as much as home as possible. Eating fast food makes you crave it more for a lot of people. This is why there are 600lb people. When the body hits 200lbs it wants 205lbs worth of food and it just keeps climbing. I'm so glad I changed my ways in my early 20s.

1. Camp training is fine for the kids but the parents also need to literally change the food in the house. Unless they want to take their kids to the camp again. 2. It doesn't matter what treatment you are doing to lose weight, it cannot replace carefully plan food and exercise in the long run. 3. I don't think plus size models are good in the long run. Chinese meal foundations usually means rice every meal. That means a large release of insulin. Insulin inhibits lipolysis and makes hunger more frequent. And the rice expands the appetite at the time of eating in a manner similar to sugar.

Maybe I’m just weird 😂 but watching mukbangs helps me when I’m fasting, they actually make me eat less. It’s like indulging without physically indulging, it takes away the craving and even the hunger for me. The 12 year old was so cute omg, I felt bad he was away from home for so long at such a young age 🥺 the way he spoke about his parents was heartwarming. I think the gastric bypass is a better option in the long run for younger people because the continuous yo-yo weight gain and loss over time is extremely detrimental to your heart. Some people are just more prone to be overeaters, overweight etc. it’s ok to take drastic measures for a better quality of life, especially if it will increase your lifespan. Great documentary.

Why the dad took him to eat "everything you want, like you normally eat"?? Why put his son to the tortute camp if you are not going to change what you eat in your every day life? In my country that kind of camp coaches would get sued. And it is dangerous for kids to loose weight that fast and suddenly exersize 6 hour per day if not used to it. The boy looked in the end like there would have been someone holding a gun on his head. The camp was ridiculous, eating too little amount of bad tasting food and exersize 6 hours per day while coaches yelling at you. This way they will absolutely learn to hate healthy life. It wasnt even healthy!

I think Chinese culture expresses love through food. Sometimes it’s guilt for working long hours. Sometimes it’s becAuse they grew up in poverty and neglect. My parents told me they didn’t even have rice at times. So we are fed and fed. My mom and dad worked a lot. I was a small and sick child. So I was over fed by mom and grandma. I remember being forced to eat And Forced to drink 3 mugs of milk at 6 . And I would throw up.

I really pity mukbangers. Eating that many calories is unhealthy no matter how healthy is your gut and stomach. My greataunt had stomach problems throughout her life so she ate very little. There were days when she boiled one big potato and ate this potato all day. She lived to the age of 96. Her sisters-in-law never had any digestion issues so they ate practically anything and in large amounts. Although the food they ate was mainly home-cooked from fresh ingredients. They passed away in their early 60s. Our bodies are not programmed to eat that much

ngl the food camp's "inedible" food looks delicious. its very clear that these children have a salt/sugar addiction form years of fast food, which is what the camp should address first instead of just pushing them to excersize.

Great documentary, I couldn't stop watching. I would much rather see people who have plenty to eat than watch people starving. It's fascinating to see people struggle to lose weight. Seems like there should be more places for young people to engage in slimming behavior. Maybe build more YMCA's and less fast food chains.

1200 is the amount of cal a TODDLER eats. I was able to loose 52 lbs in 7 months without fitness camps. These people have to teach themselves how to exercise daily, not someone forcing them... otherwise its useless and they will gain it all back.
