@megabebb money isn't real anyway, and if the majority doesn't have it, then people will stop believing in it. There's no immutable law of nature that says you have to trade little paper rectangles for goods and services. What do you suppose would happen if an AI slipped it's way in to every bank's computer system and deleted everyone's bank account? That's a real question. Do you think everyone would have to stay home and just die because they have no money to exchange for goods? You should have this conversation with ChatGPT. Tell it about your worries, because your thinking is a bit shallow here. I'd love to hear about what you learn.

Yes it is, in China, corporations are at least partially OWNED by the Chinese government. "Yes, many companies in China are partially owned by the government. China's economy is largely in a gray zone of mixed ownership, with companies that are neither completely state-owned nor privately owned. The central government owns some companies, while provinces own others. The government also takes small stakes in private companies, known as golden shares, which give the government voting power, board seats, and influence over business decisions."

The Chinese government’s intervention in the Chinese economy is different from the US government’s intervention in the US economy. It is often more direct and clearly more open and visible. But that doesn’t make saying « China released a robot » particularly useful. We know how Chinese corporations work. To suggest that they are all simply « the state » is just plain wrong, and says more about the biases and/or ignorance of the poster than it does about China.

i love seeing new robot stuff, especially humanoid, and i love your reporting on it. this one looks very good. humanoid robots nagivating steps and stairs is a big deal. you rarely see that, but it is very important if they want to be used in homes and houses. thinking about it, it is actually close to a miracle how good we humans are able to walk on stairs. we can do it without looking at our feet! how are we doing that? do we have a mental 3d model? i think it has to do with feeling the steps through our feet. so sensors in the feet would play a big role. the thing i dont like with all humanoid robots, not only this one is, that they always seem to walk with bent knees. imo this could be solved with more active ankle movement. keep the robot news coming!

The robot is just for running and shoving. Hand development is left for the less mobile pusher robots. On a more serious note, I just saw some idiotic article about a study stating that robots cannot outrun their natural counterparts... wow, so timely. AI is enabling these robots to learn how to navigate far better than their pre-programmed algorithms can handle. The point of these sort of robots is to optimize these things to be faster... much faster... than humans at tasks. 75% performance today means 125% performance in 6 months. The race toward AGI also means we are learning better ways to train using less energy and compute. The good news here is that we are still probably a year or two away from robots being able to outperform humans for some tasks like warehouse work... and then, it will take years to produce enough robots to replace those humans. Tesla can't even get more than 3500 Cybertrucks built, how are they going to replace the millions of workers in the US alone? All of these companies do know that the day is coming, however, when a $20,000 robot that costs dollars per day to run is a great investment for corporations. Robots don't need restroom breaks, don't need lunch breaks, and don't have many hidden costs beyond maintenance and repair.
