@ Mieke Bruin ... does one assume then that you do? Economists are nothing more than conmen with college degrees. They make forecasts in the direction that will suit their own investments and then profit off the backs of those who were stupid enough to heed (or pay extravagant sums for) their advice. It's simple ... 'economists' predict 'high inflation' and everyone seeks a pay rise to meet the anticipated rise in the Cost of Living ... oh look, surprise surprise they were right the predicted inflation just happened on account of wage increases!

Prices will rocket up in the US with no alternative sources. U.S. companies stock prices will plummet as their sales and margins drop. Why is everyone acting like we are the first country placing tariffs on other countries that one does business with? I don't understand why we should suffer long term with unfair deals. Nothing is easy, but I say we should see what happens. What the hell do we lose from not trying to essentially, negotiate business. A few more trillion? You guys act like other countries are as just as your own conscious, which let me remind u, it isnt that just! Idiotic move. True economics states that tariffs only beget retaliatory tariffs so this pushes up and escalates inflation everywhere in just the same way that higher interest rates also increase inflation. As prices rise, less is sold and unemployment increases. Higher prices = less demand = less employment. Then, if USA start to produce metals at a higher price, this will increase prices providing a few jobs in that industry whilst less products are sold because of higher prices of goods including metals, so many more lose their jobs than are employed making the metals. In any event, the reason USA has less and less manufacturing there is because US companies get the products made cheaper abroad to make more profit. Then they keep those profits in off shore accounts to save paying taxes in the USA. Double whammy! If Trump is upset that metals are coming into the USA too cheap and affecting metal producers in America, now foreign companies have been made aware, they will probably put their prices up anyway. By the way, importing steel and aluminium with tariffs will mean that if they are used in goods to be reexported, your companies will have to charge more and no existing country customers will buy them because they will be to expensive and more jobs will be lost to reduced sales abroad. Home goal Trump! Watch the world join the BRICS community.

Tariffs on Chinese products will begin shifting manufacturing to other countries. Some will come to the US and some to other countries in Asia. Over time production could be shifted South of the border which will help with the illegal immigration problem. There are dozens of countries in Africa, not to mention India, Pakistan, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and South American countries that could open up to fill China's manufacturing of goods. Vietnam is the prime example as even China imports Vietnamese workers for manufacturing jobs. Scary thought for China is what if North Korea industrializes and partners with the US under Trump. China needs to become self driven in its markets and adjust for the development and housing bubble that is starting to come down outside of the mega cities. Right now China is in a bad position if the economy starts slowing down faster as it may cause a run on the banks which we have seen historically will cause their economy to crash even faster if it happens. Which will cause many with money to leave with their money which can cause a financial drain on the country. It's why we had the banks bailed out in 2008 as to not repeat the 1929 crash. With the potential drop in cheap goods available in the US brands will compete again over quality and durability as they did in the 90's and prior. Companies like Walmart and Harbor Freight will suffer if the tariffs expand into the consumer imports for their low end high volume sales but they can find products and suppliers to replace them. Currently the tariffs are reportedly on the commercial and business side of things.

TRUMP vs THE WORLD! He has imposed additional tariffs (import taxes) on many goods that America buys from many other countries. These are new taxes imposed by the American president on American companies and consumers. If we continue to buy the same goods from, say China, our importers have to pay an additional 300Bn (500Bn?) in new taxes; they shall pass them on to consumers. If importers find new suppliers, they also likely face higher tariffs.

China and European Union are looting US - it is about time that somebody do something about it. EU has this bogus non-GMO (genetically modified) restrictions. I mean what the hell - let US companies sell what they are selling to US public to EU public. If EU public doesn't like it they won't buy it. Why is EU putting trade barriers? On cars is it possible that GM and Ford cannot compete with Citreon and Renault? Really? I don't think so. If EU removes the duties (that US doesn't charge for cars coming from EU) then you will see GM and Ford share go up in EU countries. And what the hell is GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation ). I mean come on - you put restrictions on US tech giants and everyone accepted it in good faith. Now you need to accept if US put restrictions on your companies's products. Maybe Trump administration can change/fine-tune their tactics but they are absolutely right in confronting China and EU on trade.

You bumbling idiot - have you ever even seen an auto assembly plant. I have worked for years in auto industry. I can guarantee that Ford can make those vehicles more efficiently and cheaply in US, Mexico, or Canada where their other plants are. Labor and regulation costs are simply more in UK. They definitely are saving on duties, shipping, and tax incentives (which will turn into trade barriers if they decide to move their manufacturing out of UK). You stupid, angry idiot - Who the hell is asking you to buy US product. Trump administration only wants fair trade. By the way UK after Brexit will be irrelevant as far as trade tariffs are concerned even though I think Brexit was the right decision and will immensely help British people in the long run - as British have a history of being innovative and being great entrepreneurs - and British economy should thrive after the EU restrictions are gone. Our trade issues will remain with EU and China and hopefully that will be resolved in a few months after EU and China realize that the trade surplus they were enjoying for years is evaporating and US is increasing domestic production while finding new suppliers in other countries.

THE WORLD vs TRUMP! The many countries that Trump has targeted with higher tariffs have all imposed high tariffs on our exports. American companies exporting to them face stiff competition from other exporters and may lose part or all of their market share because American goods become more expensive. The American companies concerned may have to lay off workers or declare bankruptcy. If they seek new markets, most may also have high tariffs.

Here's the problem is almost a quarter all of China's trade goes to the US. Think about that if you lose 25% of your trade with just one country that's going to hurt you really hard. And also the US can switch to other countries for trade like Vietnam or India which also have cheap labor cost.

Yeah, because too many American companies outsource everything to line their own stinking pockets, put Americans out of work and go play footsie with China, among others. The outfit I am stuck working for buys all their crap from Viet Nam, Korea, Bangladesh and China, for pennies, then they sell it here for a fortune and bitch because they don't feel that the tens of millions of dollars they make are enough o keep them happy.

The consumers on both countries have a chance save more money and put saving money into stable underline. Believe or not that is going to help the States a lot on defecit trade with China and Chinese workers too. Because last 20 years Chinese Communist Party has suplus of a trillion dollars by exploiting Chinese workers and the same token multination U.S companies who do business China bring billion dollars of profit for share holders and disgards the jobs loss in American. I have seen the problems for both sides society since back 2000s. As Chinese expression: " you only know rats in your house, when it is in fire" Why the U.S.A needs the trade war wiht China. First, the States contain the defecit under 10% of national GDP. if not, the donmino effects inflation crisis around the world. The State bond is going default, hedge guys dumb U.S bonds drive the State inflation higher. Dollar is rise, EM , China devalue their currencies (thought they have 2 currency system) last whole economical world engine install. Come on, Chinese people know how to live self effciency, and American people has all junk gadget already and they might last next five years. I don't vote for Trump but I love what he has done so far. At least he clean up the mess of country has been pile up for years domestically and dimplomacy. Look at Chinese Communist Party from Bejing use the surplus for aggression millitary in region and intervent into political process on China's neightbor country. Tell me what China have done for the world better trades next 10 or 20 years. The only Bejing has done is make members of Chinese Communist Party get richer and American Corporation get fatty in cash. Look at how much cash Apple pile up 400 billions, Amazon 200 hundreds billion, Google, Facebook? At least American has check and balance in the political system so her people vote for chance meanwhile Chinese people are stuck with their new king. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
