We fill food with subsidized high fructose corn syrup because sugar is addicting and tasty, despite being horrible to our health and magintudes worse than unprocessed added sugar. We fill food with gluten because wheat is government subsidized and gluten is heavy and cheap, giving the illusion of food with it being more substantial than it actually is. Like our chinese counterparts mixing cardboard into food, ours is full of similar junk filler for the same reason: greed.

Then I guess they decided to sell off the space to people who want to use it for all that kid stuff. A few other places with lots of workers too aren't nearly as crowded as they used to be. Seems like a lot of people have just gone back to their hometowns to stay with their parents. Shenzhen on the other hand though is really bustling. @@ikeafanatic1749 It is true that China has a rich culture, but much of that cultural richness stems from periods when there was a greater emphasis on individual efforts rather than uniform compliance. For example, during the Zhou Dynasty, significant value was placed on individual artistic endeavors. Similarly, the period of Emperor Wu Zetian was marked by a flourishing of artistic freedom and creativity. However, later periods shifted away from individualism and focused more on perfecting collective efforts. China’s cultural emphasis is primarily placed on the collective, where uniformity is often revered over individualism. This has led to extremely rigid standards for sameness, to the point where new and divergent cultures, ideas, and innovations are often subject to intense scrutiny, which can stifle initiative. Mistakes are frequently seen as weaknesses rather than valuable learning opportunities. That said, China has much to commend. The focus on uniformity and collective commitment makes the country exceptionally strong in areas like refinement, efficiency, and improvement. However, these strengths often come at the cost of innovation, where boldness and individual creativity are essential.

The Chinese economy has been distorted by an over preponderance on commercial property. "South Sea Bubble" effect has produced collapse of many huge property developers 'crashing' with huge (un repayable) debt levels. Obviously, the knock on effect of these crashes is to destroy thousands of lesser businesses. This channel has produced a number of well photographed vids showing terrible conditions of youth unemployment, and lives, aas well as many home buyers loosing all their savings. Other vids are showing the effect of massive corruption in the building industry in China - tufu buildings just collapsing after completion! Massive Belt and Road projects in a number of countries have produce huge 'white elephants' which are of no use to anybody! Again, these projects were the fruit of massive corruption, enriching their bosses, while creating a trail of ruin and poverty for millions of ordinary people. The pictures I see of China today are TOTALLY unlike what I saw when I worked there in 1997.
