Jinhao has most of the best, cheap chinese pens. Jinhao x450, x750, 911, 51a and 159 should all be on a best-of list!

I have 10 Chinese pens and all wrote well out of the wrapper, even the 'F' nib examples being smooth with a reliable ink flow. Conversely, my _Japanese Pilot Namiki Vanishing Point_ cost me a fortune​-and wrote far too dry until I dedicated an evening to tuning it (with a good result). The Chinese have obviously concentrated on good design, accurate machinery and careful quality control recently. The prices may be crazy low... but the product is very serviceable as well as durable.

Nice video. I have all of the pens you review except the Ego and the 3007. I wholeheartedly agree that the Jinhao 992 is a great pen. It mimics the Monteverde Monza but performs at least as well for 1/10 the price. My Kaco edge has a medium nib and is inked with Parker Quink black and I've had no problems with slow drying or over-heavy ink flow. I opened up the tines on my Wing Sung 3003 EF nib and it now lays down a decently wet line and is a very smooth writer for such an extremely fine nib. I have a 3008 identical to the one in your video but I think Wing Sung has changed the design of that model in ways that address the aesthetic flaws that you note. The Wing Sung 698 is the best Chinese piston filler I own; but, it sells for around $15 to $20. As I understand it, Wing Sung 3000 series pens are made by a different company than are the Wing Sung 600 series pens. Unless I'm mistaken, the 3007 doesn't take a converter and is a cartridge only pen; that's one reason I don't have one. Chinese pens remain an amazing bargain. If one is willing to invest in acquiring the tools and knowledge required to perform minimum nib work, it's possible to amass a collection of fountain pens that look and perform as though they cost 10 or even 100 times what they actually cost.

My Kaco Edge with stock EF nib and Heart of Darkness is in my daily writers for months now. Never, ever skips or hard starts... ever. I will say it is wet but with HOD the dry time is very fast on pretty much any paper. And it feels good and solid to me, it feels quality made I agree with your opinion on the Jinhao 992 and the 3008, though frankly they both have a cheaper feel.

Thank you for an interesting and informative review. I have a number of Wing Sung 3003s and Jinhao 850s. The review puts the Wing Sung in perspective. Bought some Diamine inks as they are made down the road in Liverpool, with one pen to test each ink colour. I shall think again.

Even if the Kaco cap breaking is a concern, don't let it dissuade you from purchasing it! The cap on mine broke recently, but CA glue & sanding it fixed it good as new.

The Wing Sung 3008 you have there seems to be one of those cheap copies that are on some eBay outlets right now-they are just cheap copies of the original 3008. The real 3008 has a solid metal cap end and a much better clip, and is a delight IMHO.

Wingsung 698,jinhao 159,x750 and obviously x450 are some best chinise fountain pen. Then moonman M2,C1,N3 are three best looking and best writting fountain pen.

Any tips on sealing the cap of a Wing Sung 3008? on mine the nib goes completely dry within one day of not using it :/

I'm fairly new to fountain pens. So much to learn! And at the point I'm only interested in low cost instruments as I learn how to navigate the intricacies of fountain pen use.

Jinhao x750 wins because its a metal cartridge converter pen. Snap cap which I like. Lots of number 6 nibs available and easy to swap. 3008 is higher maintenance but a very good pen. I like both

The Jinhao 992 its a great pen, if it only was 1" inch bigger it will be perfect.

mh the wingsung 3008 looks like the faker version, the original has a different clip and a metal ring on the open end of the cap

I never really liked Fountain pens originating from China. I do like fountain pens destined to particular nations. For instance, Pilot redesigned the explorer Fountain pen for the Chinese market.

These pens are much cheaper in China, hah~hah~, not very like these pens, not serious product, I will recommend Wingsun 601.
