Shirley, enjoying your herbal recipes and explanations. Please put a herbal recipe for thyroid support.
@ChineseHerbalPantry3 жыл бұрын
Hi @Karen, sorry for late reply. Great to hear you are enjoying my videos. As for a herbal recipe for thyroid support, I would recommend you seek proper care from a qualified Chinese medicine practitioner. This is because I don't know what kind of thyroid issues you are experiencing. In addition to that, thyroid can be a complex health issue, and it can go either way (hypo or hyper), and it is a more a chronic condition, so there is no one herbal recipe can do that. This channel is more for general wellbeing, and very minor symptoms. I wish you all the best and can find a good Chinese medicine practitioner to give you the proper support and care. Please take very care and wishing you well!

@ChineseHerbalPantry3 жыл бұрын
Hi Karen, sorry for late reply! I think I missed your message. Yes, you can add gingko in this recipe. Gingko is neutral and can help to clear phlegm/dampness, hence used for wheezing or cough with phlegm. However, in Chinese medicine, gingko is classified as 'slightly toxic'. It means to use in smaller doses and not used too frequently. Once in a while is fine! Just not too often! Hope the above helps!

I have a special request. I bought a Chinese scale this year because I am an herbalist and I’m learning Chinese herbal medicine. I’m still slowly trying to figure out how they work. Could you make a more in depth instructional video about the scale ? Looks like I have the exact same scale. Wonderful videos ! Thank you and Happy holidays !
@ChineseHerbalPantry3 жыл бұрын
Hi Laurent, nice meeting another herbalist here! Yay! It is great that you are learning Chinese herbal medicine and hope that you are enjoying it. I am so happy to hear that you got yourself this scale. In Australia, they mostly use the standard balance or digital scale, not this traditional type. I was taught how to use it by my father who is a Chinese medicine practitioner. I probably won't do a video just for it as it won't be practical for many. Yet, it is not hard to use. Let me try to explain here. You use one hand to hold the scale (as you can see in this video). And you can see 'many little dots' on the handle. You need to check with your seller, what they represent (might be different from mine). Mine is one small dot represent 1g. So, if I need to measure 9g, then I will count 9 dots and leave the thread with the small weight over there. I shall then put the herbs on the 'pan'. You should see a small 'clock' looking thingy. This scale basically is a balance scale. So, once you adding herb till the two 'hands' in the 'touching' each other or forming a 'balance', that's mean the herb in the pan is 9g. I hope it makes sense! If don't, I think it is best to check with your seller or manufacturer too, just in case is different than mine! Hope it helps! Last not but least, happy holidays!

Hi Shirly. I love your channel. You have a very calm voice and explains very clearly. If I dont have lily bulb and longan but I have red dates and san cha. Can I replace with these 2 ingredients ?
@ChineseHerbalPantry3 жыл бұрын
@Rosalind, thank you so much and I am so happy you are enjoying my channel and learning too😊 Red dates are already in the original recipes. If you want to add shan zha, you can but shan zha has sour taste. So, your soup will taste differently from my recipe. Also, the function of the soup will change. It will have less calming effect. This is because both longan fruit and lily bulbs can help to calm 'Shen' , hence can help for better sleep. If you take these two away, then the purpose of the soup will not be the same. Shan zha is more for helping to relieve indigestion. So, the functions are quite different. But if you only want a sweet dish, and the white fungus can help with collagen. Then it is ok but it would have the 'calming' effect of this recipe intended to in the first place. Hope this helps!

@Angelique, yeah, please don't soak your snow fungus for too long. A couple of hours is ok but definitely not overnight (aka longer than 8 hours). I am not too sure about snow fungus, yet there are cases of food poisoning from oversoaking black fungus. Please read the link below www.cfs.gov.hk/english/multimedia/multimedia_pub/multimedia_pub_fsf_158_04.html Due to the above warning, I would recommend we would do the same for snow fungus. As for leftovers, I am not too sure myself after I read the above warning.🤣 I would recommend finishing on the same day if possible.

And the lily bulbs from the Lilium species family. Also there are water lilies and lotus plants. Which lilies are we using? And since I bought Tiger Lily buds, can you tell me the traditional medicinal properties for these. I am making herbal teas and tinctures. I love your channel, thank you very much, the herb lady, cyndi
@ChineseHerbalPantry2 жыл бұрын
Hi @Cynthia, I am so sorry for late reply as I didn't know why I didn't see your comment till now. Hope I didn't keep you waiting! Ummm.......there are so many lily flowers out there, and it is very confusing! In Chinese Medicine, we use lily bulbs or the botanical name of this type of lily we used is Bulbus Lilii. TIger lily seems to be slightly different, although it is still under the same genius of Lilium. And Daylily is Hemerocallis, it is used for cooking in some Chinese cuisines too. As for tiger lily buds, frankly, I am not too familiar with it as what we learned or used in Chinese Medicine is Bulbus Lilii. One thing I noticed though, many labels in Asian markets might not be too accurate. For example, I found some Asian markets here labelled daylily as LIly flowers in English but it is a different name in Chinese. For me who knows how to read Chinese, the Chinese name is correct but not the English name. If you want to use Chinese herbs more for health reasons, it will be better if you get your herbs from a proper Chinese herbal shop. Hope the above helps!

Hi @Emma, for Ching Po Leung herbal soup, I am not sure which version you used as there are many different recipes for this soup. It all depend on what herbs you used. Herbs such as Lily bulbs, barley, lotus seeds etc, you can eat them. The reason we discard some herbs as they are not very palatable. Since the 'essence' are already released in the soup, we can throw them away and just drink the soup. Yet, if the herbs are yummy to eat, I usually do eat them!

This is sooo good! How long can i store it?
@ChineseHerbalPantry3 жыл бұрын
Hi Melina, if you cook it and want to store in the fridge, I would recommend to eat it within 2 days. This is because the white fungus can get quite soggy if store in fridge for too long! Just my own preference!

Would you have this in the evening, or any time?
@ChineseHerbalPantry4 жыл бұрын
This sweet soup is unlike the western medicine sleeping pill that has immediate action. So, you don't really have to drink it in the evening. Yet, it does feel more heartwarming drinking after dinner.

We do not have lily bulb and shashen, but dang shen, will that work?
@ChineseHerbalPantry3 жыл бұрын
HI @Violin, this sweet soup doesn't have Sha Shen though. Dang Shen is not often added to sweet soup. It is a Qi tonic, if you like the taste in sweet soup, and want to have a Qi tonic, you could it. The taste will be quite different from this recipe as Dang Shen has a distinct flavour. And if without the lily bulb, the function of the 'calming the spirit and clearing heat' is reduced.
@violingold37273 жыл бұрын
@@ChineseHerbalPantry thanks...it's sad that we do not have the lily bulb:(. If that is the case then what can we use to substitutw for calming?
@ChineseHerbalPantry3 жыл бұрын
@@violingold3727 Ummm..... lily bulbs are considered a very very common herb and should be very easy to find. If you can't find lily bulbs, I don't think you can find other herbs anyway. Both Lotus Seeds and Longan fruits have calming effects too, that's why they are in this recipe. I guess it would be the best you could do, just don't put lily bulbs for now till you can get it!

I’m curious I’m guessing the sugar obviously makes it taste better but as someone who is trying to lower sugar intake is there another way to prepare without always using sugar
@ChineseHerbalPantry6 ай бұрын
@xia1494, you totally can omit the sugar. I thought I have mentioned that in the video. Some of the herbs are already sweet, you don't have to add the sugar.

Hi, is it ok to soak the snow fungus overnight?
@ChineseHerbalPantry2 жыл бұрын
Hi @Fran, may not be a good idea. There were cases of poisoning of inadequate handling (soaking) of black fungus. I would recommend only soak white fungus for a couple of hours.

Those herbs are sold in asian grocery stores in USA. I worry they have chemicals and pesticides. Where can I buy all the herbs you teach safely without chemical and pesticides? Thank you.

How much water we use to cook this?
@ChineseHerbalPantry3 жыл бұрын
Hi @The Panda Bao, you can start with 1.5L of water, and then add more as you go. This is because the water will slowly reduce during the cooking process, also the white fungus may absorb more water during the cooking process. It also depends on your preference on the consistency of the soup and if you like to cook the fungus till very soft or leave it more crunchy. Enjoy the soup!

Hi Christine, I am very happy to hear you enjoy my videos. Thank you for your support! As for candida rash, it can be a complicated issue as it can be caused by many things. So, I can't really give any specific advice here. Please ask your sister to check with your doctor ( I assume she might have already) or look for a qualified Chinese medicine practitioner to help her with that. It is so thoughtful of you helping your sister to ask question, I wish she will get well soon! Take care!
