If somebody asked me to give Tom Cruise my car for his birthday he could come and collect it in exchange for a lot more money than it is worth. I'm pretty sure he could afford it. The people who asked for that must be off with the fairies.
@MDC_198510 ай бұрын
I get the impression that there was a miscommunication. I don't think anyone on Tom Cruises side of the equation was expecting someone to just gift him a car. I'm sure all the haters will jump out of the wood work with their "he's a scientologist and blah blah blah" illogical hatefilled statements. Tom Cruise is a really nice, super hardworking and incredibly generous guy. No one expected the car to be free, I am sure the "no no" response to Chip's quote was merely that his price didn't include the price of the car itself, that they wanted to purchase it and have it delivered, and he only quoted having it delivered. Furthermore, its not like Tom is notoriously cheap or couldnt afford it, quite the opposite in both cases. PS, for context, I absolutely love Chip and am always blown away by his work, furthermore I think scientology is just plain idiotic...I am not a Tom Cruise mega fan, I am just making the point that if you separate feelings for either party from the equation, and look at the situation without bias, this is almost certainly just a miscommunication.

@@MDC_1985 (work in industry) Tom while being super hardworking and knowing what he wants is not as nice on set as people make out to be and has done extremely petty things due to his wealth including once having the entire construction crew on a show he wasn't funding stop and leave the sets they were building (they were behind) so him and his entourage could walk through it. @@MDC_1985NO! The miscommunications is that if you want the car, don’t ask to gift the car to Tom Cruise. You ask “how much to purchase that beautiful car for Tom Cruise, we really want it at his upcoming birthday party” Chip is to the hot rod industry the same way Tom is to the movie industry, the very top men in their fields. You don’t ask for freebies, they have earned the respect to always be paid for their services. 🤦

Imagine asking Chip to just give a car away. There’s so many layers to that. Did Tom have them ask, did they just ask figuring Tom is too big to be denied, so they have no idea who or what Chip is? Tom’s got enough money, if he wanted a car like this he could defined have Chip build one

@irmaobarbado10 ай бұрын
I still got in my personal magazine collection a brazilian FullPower, witch was a very popular magazine back in the 2000's here in Brazil and used to show all kind of custom cars: hot rods, muscle cars, Fast&Furious' tuning style, and this car, the P32 was featured in one edition and even got a poster. As a kid starting to enjoy cars I used to look at him and think "boy, that's gorgeous" and now, 24 y-o, I look at that and still act the same, but knowing that it demands such a massive dedication and talent to build a car like this. A car that, even though it was build back in the mid-2000s, still timelessly stunning.

We used a six blade Ford Flathead truck fan on our Roadster build and the engine has never ran hot! Those old truck fans are really heavy duty and the blades are riveted a really cool look. It really pushes air! I found it on eBay and completely rebuilt it. Then I painted it black and tips old cat yellow to match the “Eagle Squadron” nose art on the cowl. This Roadster was featured in Street Rodder and made the Turtle Wax Top 100 in 2009. This 32 Roadster is actually going up on Bring a Trailer tomorrow or Friday. Like Chip just said “ built like the roots of hot Rodding and back to the basics! High Noon

Notice the side view of a P-40 then compare it to the P-38. Nearly identical since they used the same Allison V-1710 engine. Even the spinner/prop are Curtiss Wrights and are also similar. That lineage is even seen on the earlier models of both a/c with the angled radiator inlet as well. I know, TMI. Sorry.

Nice car. But I'm not suprised it's running hot. Every (common) watercooled car engine is actually partially aircooled. Especially big engines from the era. Without air constantly cooling it's outside it's prone to overheating - no matter how good your electric waterpumps are. The hood has no vents and the upper engine is partly covered. Air entering the grille will probably be forced out of the open bottom of the engine bay - leaving a hot spot at the top.
