Oh hey it was me who said that stuff about Russians not getting the Sonic content aside from Sonic x to you on twitter! I think I need to make an addendum to that statement though. It wasnt that there were NO games of sonic in Russia, just that, well... you know how Sega could not compete with Nintendo and later on Playstation? Well yeah, it was like that here but multiply by 10. Basically I *knew* that sonic was a game first and that there were SOME games of it somewhere but at the same time Sonic X was broadcasted MASSIVELY by multiple different tv stations and at a really appropriate for kids time (right after school for me for example) so people knew Sonic X lore more than they knew about Sonic games in general. So yeah, basically what you said but slightly more realistic.

Making an entire fan game to explain why there aren’t any Chaos Emeralds in Sonic Colors has the exact same energy as Tetsuya Nomura creating an entire Kingdom Hearts game to explain why Mickey Mouse wasn’t wearing a shirt at the end of Kingdom Hearts I.

"Ambitious" is certainly the word of the day here. Sure the devs had ambition (and spite, if some things people said are to be believed), but I wouldn't call slapping a bunch of generic UE4 environment assets into someone else's Sonic fangame framework and commissioning a bunch of cutscenes (and supposedly not treating the VAs very well) worthy of that much praise. And that's besides the other dumb shit like putting a *fangame* behind a paywall and that shit with the Maria model It dropping right before Spark 3 and Sonic Frontiers is like a 1-2 punch of getting owned though

To correct Kris (because for some freakin reason I just retain this info very well) the Anti-Mobius versions of the Chaos Emeralds are called Anarchy Beryl. Anyways I feel like I'd be less "Bro what were they thinking" with Sonic Omens if it weren't for my aforementioned specific memory. Cuz I remember the fallout of holding demo builds behind a paywall (can't forget the stolen music in multiple aspects), the lead dev having... *allegations*, and the general mistreatment of not just any fans but even the VAs from said lead dev. That said I can still look at this all as a fascinating curiosity cuz man... lots of decisions were made.

The story I always heard about why so many of the games have such a wild variance and are all kinda scuffed is that Sega uses Sonic Team as a sort of training ground for inexperienced new hires. No clue if it's true or not though.

Sega regularly has developers from across the company moved to different games when completed. So it's less "Sonic Team is a training ground" and more "there is no actual Sonic Team, it's just a handful of key and recurring figures mixed in with people who just finished making Sakura Wars." Only recently do they seem to rectify this and there's a dedicated umbrella of Sonic developers now.

The one thing I still don't get is of all things is it's supposed to take place before Colors because... the Emeralds are still in both versions of that game? The Wii Version/Ultimate are missing the Final Boss from the DS but you can still collect them and turn super in the stages. Even Lost World has the Emeralds to get optional super like Colors, not counting Boom Games they weren't ever not in the game at all until Forces with Super Sonic being "Free" DLC. So IDK where they got the whole idea they needed to go "The Emeralds aren't used anymore in games because they were literally destroyed"?

I'm really hoping they're ending Sonic month with a Weeaboomers Episode on the Sonic OVA. As for Sonic Omens, that game is a travesty. the only reason why anyone would give it remotely High Praise is because it's the only 3D Sonic fan game that's completed. In my personal opinion I much preferred Sonic Triple Trouble 16 bit. I know it's a completely different style of Sonic game, but it's a lot more fun and a lot less frustrating than Sonic Omens. I hope more 3D Sonic fan games get completed so that they can be seen as the gold standard for 3D Sonic fan games rather than settling for Sonic Omens.

Man, I am tired of hearing people saying that Forces is a shit game when it's not. Like, did Sonic fans really have very high expectations or something? The game was fully functional and played just as fine as Generations and Colors, so I don't get why everyone is saying that Forces is a really bad game when it plays just as well as those games. The issues I have heard is what exactly you do in the other Boost Formula Sonic games and the Stages in Frontiers, so what makes Forces any different?
