Chivalry 2's game design is sneaky special

I’m more of an FPS guy, and this is mostly an FPS channel, but Chivalry 2 is an absolute gem that can teach us a lot about what makes a fun multiplayer game, regardless of genre.
I talked a lot about some of the great game designs in chivalry, but what I left out of this video was the rich history of the Chivalry series. I was a huge fan of the source mod as a kid, but somehow completely missed the release of Chivalry Medieval Warfare, so when Chiv2 came out I was even more surprised than most. And when it was actually GOOD?! Phew. We have had a lot of disappointing drops in the video game world the last few years, but chiv2 is not one of them. It’s heartwarming to see a game from my childhood live on into my adulthood.
That being said, its kinda sad that the original Age of Chivalry is all but dead. Peak players is never more than like 7, and I’ve yet to see a populated server after a few weeks of regularly checking. If anyone knows of a discord that organizes play times, let me know. If not maybe we make one?

My God, I'm amazed that you have so few views and subscribers, because the quality of the content is amazing! But alas, this is the fate of the videos about Chivalry 2. I adore this game in every way. Intro, after which the camera shows the armies running at each other, and the camera slowly plunges into the head of your hero, and you instantly control him (Rudhelm, for example). I love the way you spawn running (!) with your brothers and you all shout the cry together. I adore the voices of the heroes (except for Gladiator - Rampage), I adore the sounds (The grinding of swords and armor is a real cradle), I adore the music in the game (For the Order, On their Heels, Duty and Honor [Especially the ending, which is not heard in the game] Wonders of Tenosia and drop of For the Glory of Agatha, and of course Feydrid's ghost, which creates an indescribable atmosphere). I love lore, where there are many characters, and I especially like Feydrid that he heroically accepted Alfonso’s post and how he was canonized in the church and even the monks sing a hymn in his honor (Yeah, each VIP has his own unique VO, even the same VIP with different voices) I love the combat. It's just so fluid and comfortable, and all these sparks and sounds of the blades, mmm. Combat maybe not suited for duels, but works perfectly in huge battles. And the last, game is fkn beautiful. Not just graphically, but in kinds of aestetic. Armors look great, maps are unique, and swarmed with small details, like a pile of leaves or flying particles from fire around. For example, in Coxwell, the more the task scale fills, the more the home burns - obviously. But far in the background outside the map we can also see other fields and houses that are being burned by other units of the order. It's beautiful and adds scale to the game. And yes, scale. Even M&B cannot boast of such epicness and scale of sieges (100 faces crowded on a wall, while only 5 of them are actually fighting and not waiting for their turn, is not fun)

my favorite thing is the combat feels engaging and fun i always feel every fight is usally differnt depending on player really gives thi games combat depht in my opnion

yeah this is spot on, it's simple enough that you can relax while playing, but has enough depth to be interesting

For me although third person is tactically better in every way, for me I love first person. Makes it feel so immersive and you can see how beautiful the game actually is

Devs did a amazing job here, just a shame the game got brigaded cuz a yt for this game ended themselves and people for some reason blamed the devs cuz they banned him weeks prior... games are amazing but i swear the people who play them....

I have played every iteration of Chivalry. It's an incredible game, unique and nothing like it. It has a sense of humor and is really fun to play. If someone took this fighting mechanic and made a large MMO, I might just shit myself.

it took so long for me to get anywhere near decent lol, its hard one thing that helped was playing a lot slower and picking your battles. I always die when I get impatient and rush in

Mordhau, it's hard on start yes, at some point you may feel like you made bad choice. But if you start learning moves just right, you will start enjoy the game, specially after you find your inner goofyness so you don't rage quit from every fight. Also, am not saying that Chiv2 is worst option there, it's somehow casual for other players and was picked as best multiplayer of the year, I play it myself time to time. I just simply find Mordhau as better game because I played it much much longer than Chiv2.

​@josh.g2033 I think in general Chivalry is the better gaming experience, if nothing else just for the fact chiv has way more casual players and less 1k+ hour sweats running around pubstomping. While I agree Mord is the better designed game and funnier with more personality, I still think for an average person chiv will be a way more fun time.

Mobius is very very early free to play game in testing right now that uses similar combat but it’s more like csgo then battlefield. Renown is another pre alpha game that’s combat is more like chivalry 1 but in a survival rust like environment. Very small team but already really fun in the limited testing. ​@@domindrakegaming7956
