I'm no professional detailer, but I *have* worked in the Automotive Tire/Service Industry (on/off) for over 3 decades. One thing I can tell you for certain is that simply 'foaming' a tire will *not* remove all the dirt, road grime and brake dust from the pores of the sidewall. Besides the application of soap/water/rinse - you definitely *have to* do some scrubbing! If you scrub your tires, you'll almost immediately notice the soap suds turn brown - which I'm assuming that it's from the dirt trapped within the pores of the tire casing. And if you *do* happen to go the extra mile-and-a-half by actually removing your tire/wheel assemblies to clean them - it's a really great idea to scrub the *inner* sidewall as well - applying your preferred tire dressing to it afterwards. Without scrubbing until not only 'looking' clean - but until it is actually clean - all you're doing is sealing microscopic dirt and brake dust into the pores of your tires. This is why people will eventually wind-up with 'greasy' tires after having had tire dressing applied to them, either at home or at their local car wash. Even to this day - there are *SO* many tires I rotate and balance at the shop I work at on a daily basis that you simply cannot handle on/off the balancer without using gloves to protect your hands from getting this greasy tire dressing embedded in every crease of your skin. From a little bit of research, I've found that dressings come in two varieties: *Solvent-based* (which are clear and greasy) and *Water-based* (which are milky). Aside from being non-biodegradable and often slinging up onto your paint while you drive away, *solvent-based* silicone dressings contain an compound known as Dimethyl (DMS) which leeches the elasticity from the tire causing it to harden prematurely. It also advances the movement of Antiozonant out of the rubber, causing premature browning of the tire called “blooming”. Antiozonant is added to the rubber to block Ozone and UV rays from damaging the rubber. As the DMS evaporates, it takes all the positive properties of the rubber with it, leaving behind a hard rubber and an unnaturally shiny tire that will attract dirt like flypaper. *Water-based* dressings contains a silicone based organic polymer known as PDMS. It is used in everyday items like shampooto leave hair silky and shiny. In addition, they often contain products that assist in UV blocking, are non-toxic, and are largely biodegradable. They won’t last as long as a solvent based dressing, but the benefits (and even the cost) are worth their use; and, they don’t attract dirt like their counterparts. I'm by no means trying to be a troll here - My only intent is to offer my findings of detailing tires.

I can co-sign your info. The tire warranty on set of Sumitomos (non-taco vehicle) said that wheel protectants would void the warranty. Specifically: DO NOT APPLY SIDEWALL DRESSING OR HARSH CHEMICAL CLEANERS SUMITOMO tire sidewalls are specially compounded to resist ozone and weather cracking. Use of some dressings or cleaners may degrade rubber and remove inherent ozone resistance, resulting in premature cracking or discoloration. Use a mild soap solution to clean sidewalls and white lettering, and rinse with plain water.

Chloe, some tips for your pressure washer. Get some quick connects for the hose from the pressure washer to your spray wand, it makes it a lot quicker and easier to switch between the spray wand and the foam cannon. If you want to go even further get a quick connect for the hose connection to the pressure washer and add an on-off switch there too. I've been using this setup with my Greenworks pressure washer for several years. Anything to make life easier. BTW - great videos!

I use my pressure washer for the foam cannon, but that's it. Pressure washers can cause damage way to easily and also blow off your wax/sealant. Also, the best "wheel brush" I've used is actually a convertible top brush (which CG also sells); it's softer than a dedicated wheel brush but works just as well. And wheels need sealant, especially matte paint!

Most good tire dressings/tire shine will minimize the brown stains, or remove them. It helps if you scrub the tires, and use a degreaser, then use the tire dressing.

only a few days as VRP is a water based product. if you are looking at the chem guys products Tire and Trim gel or any other oil based products will last longer I found

For longer last, you can use lemon furniture polish like Pledge. It makes the tire matte black, but very black and it last long. I prefer matte than shiny as it matches the black trims of the truck.

Realizing this is a Chemical Guys sponsored video, one thing to at least consider is using an all purpose degreaser on the wheels and tires. I've used that for years on various wheels and tires and it works just as well and it's WAY cheaper in the long run. It also does a great job at getting the brownish buildup off of the tires too. I know Chemical Guys makes a good all purpose degreaser if you wanted to stay with that brand.

If you want to keep your tires cleaner for longer. I would recommend not using a tire shine. That attracts the dirt and dust and tire shine will keep dirt trapped in your tires. When you use tire shine it also will turn your tires brown after long periods of not using the shine or dressing.
@msdosnt2 жыл бұрын
Wrong. Very wrong. Don’t listen to this guy. Certain tire shines, the cheap crap, will attract dust/dirt. Also the browning or blooming of tires is because of an additive tire manufactures put in the rubber to prolog the life of the rubber. It’s called antizonant. It works its way to the surface and browns the tire. Do yourself a favor and Google it and understand why and how to clean it and what products get your tire back to black without a fake shine. Basically you don’t want shine, you want black. You’re just parroting what you’ve heard and prolonging the stupid rumors and is not based on any knowledge or experience.
@calejared2 жыл бұрын
It is based on knowledge and experience. I've been detailing for 3 years and I don't use cheap stuff. I use the very same product she is using in the video. Don't assume

“It says in the back of the product that it’s great for tires” Yes because the want to sell it. I can only tell you to not be a shill for corporations. Chemical Guys sell a lot of basic products in many different packagings. If you don’t know the chemical composition of the products you’re the best target. Like their washes are often times the same base just different dyes and scents. So you end up buying 3-4 washes one for off road one for foam gun etc. but they’re all the same chemically lol. And don’t use any plastic or tire shine. It’s not good for the tires. Just keep them natural looking. You also want the side biters to bite and slathering on tire shine makes them slippery.
