Did that guy say his tires were at 16 psi? On 4WD 24-7 they drive in the Australian desert and on the beach and when they air down they start at around 15-18 psi but in soft sand go down to 10 or even 8 psi without beadlock rims. The 4WD 24-7 video called "Shauno’s tyre pressure off-road test" is very educational. Tire pressure is more important than the type of tire and a stiff sidewall requires a lower tire pressure like 14-10 psi. Your new truck may have been having issues if you were driving over 21 MPH. Four low is for driving under 18-21 MPH (30-35 KPH). There is a way to winch out of sand by burying a tire or a bag called a deadman earth anchor then attaching the winch to it. Using 4 traction boards in front of both rear and front tires allows the truck to pop up out of the sand. You also try minimal throttle and don't floor it because it damages the traction boards. The MAXTRAX XTREME Recovery Boards have alloy teeth that are replaceable if damaged. Maxtrax also makes a leash that is a long cord to make it easier to find your traction boards when they get buried. 4WD Supacentre "beach 4WDing secrets revealed" is a good video about sand driving basics. Ronny Dahl also has some good tips for offroading and recovery gear. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6mykJ2NYs6dZpIsi=wkfJv30-UrJMlG4n

Awesome video and good job helping the newbies out! Yeah airing down in sand is extremely important. Even a few PSI makes a big difference. I was doing a video shoot earlier this year with a very capable Jeep JK (on 37" tires). It kept getting stuck with 16 PSI... went down to 12 and he never got stuck again.

I found that with my 3rd gen on 235/85/16 AT4W, sand dunes were best conquered with 4H; s1 or s2 (lots of RPMs), and 11-15 psi. Gotta let that v6 sing and fling the sand, it doesn’t have the power to hammer the pedal partway up the hill and make up for a slow start.

You should build / I would build the old one, because it's already half way there, and the aftermarket support for the 3rd gen is very well developed since it's been on the market for quite a few years already. The 4th gen aftermarket is only just getting started, and you will be significantly more limited in what you can do at first. As others have stated, the 4th gen is also a lot better on-road, so it makes sense not to mess with that. However, I think you're going to build up the new one instead, because it's a smarter business decision in terms of partnerships/sponsorship/marketing with/for Toyota (i.e. that's what they will want you to do, and if there's any money changing hands, there's not even a question), and it will make for fresher content than another 3rd gen build.

When your truck lost power on the hill, it's almost as if the engine went into "Limp" mode. That's when the computer senses an issue and reduces power to avoid damage. If that's the case, turning the truck off and on again should clear limp mode. If you did this between having the issue and switching to MTS, that may have been what solved the problem. I may be off base, but just throwing it out. I've had this happen on other vehicles. Sometimes you need to turn on and off a couple times to reset....
@ChloeKuoКүн бұрын

0:06 I would daily the 4th Gen because of the better MPG. I just drove on the freeway last night to go to a different section of O’ahu with my 2023 TRD OR ACLB and my trip MPG was 26.1 (Hawai’i freeway speeds are 45-55mph). I am changing jobs to have a 35 minute/26 mile commute from a 20minute/7 mile stop and go surface street commute so I am hoping that I will go from 11-17mpg to 26mpg. Listening to the start I think it might be better to build out the 4th Gen since your 3rd Gen is still mostly stock. It would be interesting to see how much MPG difference there is between the two.

2021 & 2023 are in the same 3rd Gen, it’s 2024 that starts the 4th Gen. That is the main reason I bought my 2023 TRD Off Road Access Cab January 27, 2024 right before the 4th Gens arrived in Hawai’i, the second is the loss of the back clamshell doors.
