Great information! Could you please explain (by way of example) as to how insulin sensitivity can be a positive (benefits, etc...) and how it can also be a bad thing (and how can we know if we are too insulin sensitive). Thank you; you made this point on your video and I would like to learn more about it. Also, if you could explain more about the emerging science of how theobromine affects your genes. Thank you!

I’m combining it with nutmeg in an antidepressant elixir. Nutmeg is a beautiful spice and ally if treated with respect. Cacao is bound to be a good pairing. I’m not a big caffeine fan, I love the taste of coffee but hate the jitters.

Dark chocolate has anandamide in it which is a cannabinoid linked to pleasure reward systems. That's why it's pleasurable. Theobromine is just a small part of it.
@kjell159

And phenethylamine apparently. I took 1,5 grams of phenethylamine at once lately, holy moly, after about 15 minutes it kicked in and made my heart race and my whole body tingle, while moving felt like living in light cotton, effortless. I never did any other amphetamines (except for bupropion if that counts), but I'm pretty sure these were similar physical effects as one might get from speed and XTC. But I never experienced that with chocolate though, not even when eating 300 grams of dark chocolate at once. Cacao also contains a FAAH- (an enzyme that metabolizes endocannabinoids) inhibitor, which might enhance the bodies own cannabinoids their activity. But the only real 'buzz'/slight high I ever got from cacao was by snorting a couple of lines of pure cacao powder. But that might as well have been a placebo buzz, especially as it was only very shortlived. Had similar effects with less then 200 mg snorted crushed caffeine tablet. Native Americans used cacao as an entheogen, I guess raw cacao might work better for this purpose, but there are other herbs (like nutmeg, sage, leonorus, wild lettuce, kanna, kratom, etc.) with waaay stronger psychoactive effects.

TW No it doesn’t, anandamide is endogenous to the human body and isn’t found anywhere else in nature. Some alkaloids and simply facilitate the release or prevent the breakdown of anandamide i.e. kaempferol & theobromine

From my experience with cacao powder I learned you have to eat it 10 hours before going to sleep in order for the therobromine to get out of your blood stream. I consumed the cacao powder it in the afternoon and evening and after two weeks I was exhausted and could barely stay awake during the day. Once I researched it and found the theobromine issue I added cacao to my breakfast, drinking it or adding it to oatmeal, and I began to sleep well again. So...you really have to have cacao or dark chocolate before noon to prevent it from really messing up your sleep patterns and making you miserable.

😅I put cocoa powder in my black coffee to prevent caffeine crash. When caffeine dissipates theobromine takes over to give me a mellow alertness without the crash. When caffeine and theobromine combined with CBD oil it offsets the drowsiness effect of CBD oil to give you the best psychological mellowness and pain relief of CBD and alertness of caffeine and theobromine. I get the best of all worlds in these three compounds without other medication which has unwanted side effects on cognition. This drink without sugar also prevents me from feeling hungry and helps me stay in ketosis longer without suffer hunger urges. Combined with olive and coconut oil really helped reduced insulin resistance causing belly fat and a general feeling of health and wellness.

At this stage, the beans are white and gooey. The beans are fermented for 2 weeks and left to dry. Once dry, the beans have turned brown! The dried beans are roasted to create more flavor, and finally, made into chocolate products!

Great information but I think many people still misunderstand what dark chocolate really is. For example a Hershey’s special contains milk and has a very low cacao ratio. 1.45 - I think this may be a little incorrect the way youve phrased it. There are multiple adenosine receptor subtypes in CNS - caffeine is an antagonist of these receptors - which block them like you said. HOWEVER - adenosine would activate these receptors, not block them like you were saying. adenosine receptor activation, specifically 1 and 2a subtypes (as per wiki, I dont walk around carrying specifics on subtypes of adenosine receptors in my head) is thought to increase fatigue. So antagonising these receptors - via xanthine derivitives reduces this fatigue, like you were saying. I think you just mis-worded how adenosine works. Maybe add a little note or something over the vid :) hope this helps. good video otherwise

Now combine that with the consumption of tea/coffee...I was drinking 2 tea's a day and eating 4-6 chocolates I got theobromine poisoning and almost died plus the effects of caffeine on my heart was unbearable felt like extreme anxiety when I just had fast heart rate. You should never eat chocolate everyday and if you do don't eat it with tea or coffee or any other source of theobromine/caffeine...and don't eat more than the daily recommended amount.

If you liked this info, you may also want to know that pure cocoa is high in polyphenols. This is exciting because polyphenols can suppress bad gut microbes and encourage the growth of good microbes! We need our gut microbiota to be in balance, and polyphenols can help with that!

NB: Sick of uneducated people telling me MILK chocolate is lethal for dogs. Dogs and milk chocolate varies, but on average, a 10kg dog would need to eat 1kg of milk chocolate to die. That is why it hardly ever happens and is virtually a myth, and an old wive's tale. However, it's possibly half that (500g) for dark chocolate - so, still unlikely. The lethal dose of theobromine for dogs is 100-500mg per kg of dog, so it all depends on the chocolate's theobromine concentration. The absolute worst case scenario would be a 10kg theobromine-sensitive dog dying from eating 200g of milk chocolate with the maximum amount of theobromine (half the amount of dark chocolate, which is extremely unlikely, as it's mostly milk). A 10kg theobromine-tolerant dog could eat up to 5kg of minimal theobromine milk chocolate! Theobromine is lethal to humans too - but you'd need to eat about 25kg of milk chocolate to die LOL.

If you appreciated this video, you may also want to know that Chocolate sometimes gets a bad rap because chocolate products can include a lot of added sugar. Sometimes, there’s even up to 50g of added sugar in one chocolate bar! For context, the World Health Organization recommends staying under 25 g (or 6 teaspoons) of added sugar per day!

I have a bad reaction to chocolate. Doctors have been no help, they basically deny that I have an allergy or reaction and blame it on the caffeine. I think it might be the theobromine? My heart rate speeds up and sometimes goes into an irregular heartbeat, and I feel like I am gasping for breath, a feeling of hot flashes, feel nauseous and can get stomach cramping. It lasts for hours.

It certainly does! All chocolate will speed up your heart rate and is poison! There is nothing wrong with you! Theobromine and Cocoa are lethal. Even in small chunks! Think of caffeine in energy drinks?? Well it's the same effect in all chocolate!! Avoid!!!

If you liked this video, you may also want to know that sometimes there’s peppermint oil included in chocolate. Did you know that peppermint oil can improve gut distension, pain, gas, and constipation? However, if you have acid reflux, peppermint oil is not recommended, as it can make acid reflux worse.
