1:11 Partridge pointing out an adverb/adjective-error in the midst of a totally non-linguistics related conversation topic, together with an ever so quick glance at the guy to see if he's picked up on it, is the genius in both the writing and acting, and the reason I keep coming back to Partridge over and over again: the small, EASILY missed nuggets of intolerance and 'know-it-allness' paint a picture of a very frustrated and at heart pathetic man. And it's hilarious. As are Simon Dent's facial expressions, half-mumbled asides and interjections. I think it is just comedic (near)perfection, and they pull it off 95% of the time!

It's not pathetic to point out grammatical errors. I should know, as I've been doing it for years, and I'm far from frustrated and deeply unfulfilled.

Are these old or new? He's playing Alan much more normal on these (like old Alan with the old classic Alan voice) he's lost all that annoying over affectation too. I can't help it but I like the Day Today, KMKYWAP and series 1 IAP, these seem the closest to a hilarious parody of the kind of C list local celebrity that existed at the time. The later stuff just seems like a hyperbole version that isn't believable. I've watched similar real people come up from local sports news, to local regional news to main news, etc and it was so realistic! There was one local radio dj/local itv station who did this same trajectory in my local area who ended up in jail on underage sexual assault charges. That would have been quite an interesting arc for Partridge!
