My GP didn’t know what Choline was and said she didn’t recommend taking any herbal supplements whilst pregnant. Thank you so much for providing this information I’ll be able to take this information back and ask her more about it 😊

from which school your GP graduated??? Choline is a basic fatty acid in cell membrane (Phosphatidylcholines) and acetylcholine is a very well known molecule in any basic cell biology course at any high school-science major and the first year of university!! That is shocking and concerning to hear a physician does not know what choline is!

@@BiotechArab yea I was just thinking this myself and I didn’t major in medicine by any means, but I have basic understanding of many things through added instruction

Should you start taking choline supplement right away in the first trimester or wait until second or third?

My gynocolgist didn't even know what choline was! I probably need to find a supplement with choline. Can you find some at chemist warehouse?
@NourishwithMelanie Жыл бұрын

Yes you can. For brands and doses you'll require personalised advice from a prenatal dietitian. See www.melaniemcgrice.com/BookNow

Great information Thankyou :) in a twin pregnancy how much would you need approximately?
@NourishwithMelanie4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ezrrah, there’s lots of micronutrients that you need higher amounts of. I’d highly recommend a consultation with a prenatal Dietitian 🙂

Hi Melanie. Your channel is very useful and has helped me get a lot of useful information. I need your help on something that I couldn't find on your channel. My wife is currently 16 weeks pregnant. I have told her about the benefits of choline, and since eggs are the best source, she eats 3 egg yolks (usually 1 whole egg and two yolks) almost everyday. Can you please give your opinion on whether this is safe for her? She is 5' 3" and about 152 lbs right now. I am also planning to get a choline supplement to further boost her choline intake to twice the daily requirement of 450 mg/day.

As long as her cholesterol levels are healthy this should be safe for her.

Arnab Sen I recommend the book Real Good For Pregnancy by Lily Nichols, it’s an excellent resource. She has podcasts and a website as well.

Is krill oil the best natural source choline as well as eggs. My daughter is pregnant and I just found out that I have the MTHFR gene mutation. My daughter perhaps as well. She really has a good diet but choline is one of the vitamins that my body ( perhaps hers) has a difficulty making. Would you please make a podcast on pregnant women with MTHFR? It seems like it's almost 40-50% of the population. Thank you.

Hi Tiana, thank you for sharing and for the suggestion! Yes, fish such as krill oil are good sources of choline x

Do you recommend a specific brand of cdp choline supplements and are cdp choline supplements natural or synthetic?
@NourishwithMelanie4 жыл бұрын
As a health care professional I'm not able to recommend specific brands of supplements in the media. You'll require a personalised consultation for that information.

I'm surprised beef liver was not mentioned and vegan natural supplement sunflower lecithin
@ladybugflv3 жыл бұрын
Beef liver is rich in vitamin A, as far as I know, it is not recommended during pregnancy because of the vitamin A excess it might lead to. But I was also wondering about sunflower seeds.

I’m on the Blackmores pregnancy and breastfeeding supplement and it doesn’t have choline! I might look at trying two eggs at breakfast instead one one 😁

You may want to suppliment, 2 eggs will not give you enough Choline.
