I ate a COLD Turkey sub from subway a few days back. It was delicious and I have zero regrets. I also plan on eating sushi in the next few months. I go to a very reputable place and honestly, I'm craving it badly. I think one meal, once every few months isn't terrible... esp with what our mothers were eating and doing while carrying us. 😂

Hello! Thanks you for providing this video. I have a question, I read that flaxseed, chia seed and lava powder is great for fertility, by adding them to a smoothie. But I’ve read that it’s not good during pregnancy and other articles that state it’s perfectly fine in others. It’s so confusing. Same with skincare. I asked my OB and he said he didn’t have a list. Just stay away from Retinol. I just want to do everything I can to keep my baby safe, especially since we have been trying for over 2 years. It’s a sense of preparedness and in return less stressful. I like to know all things when going through something.
@NourishwithMelanie

I understand, it's very confusing and overwhelming trying to find accurate information. Chia seeds and flaxseed are considered safe. As for the lava powder, it is difficult to comment as there are many types available. But you'e doing the right thing by checking in with your doctor :)

@@NourishwithMelanie hello Doc, what about Seamoss? Is it safe for pregnancy?
@NourishwithMelanie

@@pearlginger7080 There is very limited evidence relating to its safety during pregnancy. Sea moss has become a popular remedy in boosting fertility as it contains folate, zinc and other nutrients. Thank you for the informative video 😁. I was wondering though, is it safe to eat refrigerated sandwiches? We are going on a 12hr road trip and I am coeliac so i am making my gluten- free sandwiches and keeping them in the fridge overnight and in the cooler box with ice during the journey. Is this safe practice when pregnant? I am certain I will not be able to find hot gluten-fee food along the way so this is the best option for me. Any info would be most helpful.

Thanks for the informative video. I'm on my 20 week of pregnancy and it's helpful to know what to avoid during this period of time. One note about consuming mayonnaise- I've been told that stored mayonnaise, who is make with pasturized eggs, is safe to consume. Not like homemade mayonnaise . Is it true? And what about canned foods like canned tuna chunks, and canned fruits and vegetables? Also I'm confused by consuming wipe cream products like chocolate mousse, cream cake, and other desserts. Is it safe to consume? I hope you can suggest me the right foods for me. Liat 🌺

Hi Liat! It is correct that store bought mayonnaise is generally better than homemade, however, it is difficult to completely eliminate the risk. Canned foods are generally safe to consume. Creamy desserts are best to be avoided as well if you are unsure. I hope that helps :)

Isn’t tuna high in Mercury so should be limited to once a week?
@NourishwithMelanie

Canned tuna typically contains lower mercury levels compared to other tuna varieties, primarily due to the use of smaller species caught when they are under 1 year old. It is safe for pregnant women and others to consume 2-3 servings of either canned or fresh tuna per week.

So for everyone in the comments, if you’re listening to this video and looking up what foods to avoid and then down the road you end up really wanting or even craving that food.. EAT IT! You know your body best and as long as you aren’t over doing it then you will more than likely be completely okay and so will baby. I was in Costa Rica living off grid for my first and part of my second trimester and turns out I was eating pretty much EVERYTHING on the bad list, but it was what my body was asking for so I knew we were okay. Before fully accepting anything out of your life ALWAYS consult yourself and your baby:) mama knows best!

No smoked meats such as smoked salmon (they're afraid it isn't cooked all the way through) and also to skip the peanuts if there is a history of food alergies in your family. Also...caffine! So much outdated information on this video! You can get listeria from pretty much any food that hasn’t been handled properly. Vitamin A in pate is different from supplemented vitamin A. Pate helps against anemia and even preeclampsia cause of its high protein and iron content. This saddens me 👎
@NourishwithMelanie
@NourishwithMelanie 3 жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct in that there is a high risk on contracting listeria through inadequate cleaning and handling practices. The risk of bacterial infection is also heightened in meats that have not been thoroughly cooked - which is recommended in most pate recipes. Although pate is nutritious, it contains high levels of vitamin A which can be detrimental to the growing foetus. Therefore it is best to choose alternative foods or dietary patterns that can reduce the risk of preeclampsia and anaemia.
@CassiaElise
@CassiaElise 2 жыл бұрын
Also, in Canada, the recommendation is also not to eat liver because the thought is that Vitamin A from animal sources put pregnant women at a particular risk. Realistically, that is also likely why you can't use retinol skincare products during pregnancy (also a form of Vitamin A).

People are so ridiculous. While some of these are truly important, some of these aren't true at all and total overkill in "caution". Instead of having a list of foods you can't eat, pay attention to how you prepare the food. The problem with the food isn't the food it is the bacteria that has a small chance of being there. But honestly, this can happen with any food item. So knowing how to prepare it is far more important then not eating it.

This is ridiculous. There’s no way you should completely avoid sweets or soft drinks. In moderation it shouldn’t be an issue

It's quite easy to avoid soft drinks to be honest, it's only tough when you're used to consuming them in your usual diet.

Of course it is up to the individual on what they would like to eat during their pregnancy. The foods I have mentioned in this video are to help those who wish to limit their risk of a bacterial infection or other complications to feel more confident in their food choices.

I understand this is a confusing and overwhelming part of pregnancy and to make matters worse, food safety advice differs from country to country. In Australia, it's recommend to cook ricotta before eating. Although commercially made ricotta is usually made with pasteurised milk, this is still the advice! But it is always up to women to make their own choices.
