Yea dumb phones are probably more difficult to obtain right now then they've ever been. If you're in the USA your options pretty much only consist of the Alcatel Go Flip; from what I've researched every carrier will have 3g and 2g dropped by the end of 2019 and the 8110 simply does not work on our towers. The light(phone) at the end of the tunnel is that the 3110 and 8110 obviously have a following and any quick google search will reveal there is a demand for 4g dumb phones that is not being met. More people everywhere wants to get less connected and it should only be a matter of time before the market picks up on that.

Won't be supported forever but calls, SMS, MMS, all work great. 10 years ago was the most advanced phone on the market. Fortunately my provider (Mint Mobile in US) support team has been friendly & hasn't pushed me around about it either. My two cents to add, if you do go for a legacy phone, in the old days the advice was to always buy the OEM battery. But now that they aren't made any more, they're all counterfeit now, or past their shelf life, so buy third party so you have someone who's actually standing behind their brand name. I found a German company called Polarcell that works great. Also I have a feeling you would dig the "No Agenda" podcast. Just a hunch!

Having played about with the smartphones a bit here are tips for users who are forced to operate the thing: Disable the 4G, this can be turned back on if you need extra bandwidth momentarily but otherwise should not be used. Turn off the data, this can be toggled on to collect messages and emails as required but you should definately keep this turned off as the data packet seems to be more dangerous than the other signaling (except calls). It goes without saying you should have the NFC, WiFi and Bluetooth disabled. These tips are for those who are forced to use the device, those who are not should use aeroplane mode extensively especially EMF sensitives. EMF senstives should keep the phone a couple of inches from the body even in aeroplane mode as it may emit a small magnetic field which may cycle frequencies, I believe this is due to the CPU speedstepping and poor shielding.

Is there any update for safe phones? With Pegasus being a major problem now for any of us with a smartphone, iOS and Android are both unsuitable phone OS's. KaiOS is also apparently unsuitable, and phones with GPS and Bluetooth, VoLTE, and Wifi are also undesirable. So what the hell do we even use? lol. I was excited about the Punkt MP02 Pigeon phone because it supports Signal, but then I learned it has Wifi, VoLTE and it uses non google android. The latter means that Pegasus could easily target it so I don't even know what to use.

Several Kyocera flips are 4g.. I have a Kyocera Cadence which is a super plain flipper and it's 4g--HOWEVER, I think it is run by the Android os. But one of their most popular is/are the Kyocera Dura xv and Dura xe, and I believe that ONE of those just runs on a proprietary Kyocera os.. and then the other runs on Android.. both 4g I believe.. Anyway, I've been researching 4g dumb phones for the past couple weeks, and I have found 5 or 6 of 'em.. Here are some: Kyocera Cadence Kyocera Dura xv/xe LG Exalt Alcatel Flip/Go Flip ZTE Cymbal Pantech Breeze

Hope this helps a little.. These things really ARE tough to find! I'd like to find a flip phone with: 1)4g 2)Push to Talk 3)a decent camera/camcorder 4)a decent display 5)wireless capability such as blue tooth (for music mainly) 6)long battery life (usually that's a given) 7)there was something else that's NOT coming to mind! The Kyocera Cadence does most of these and more, except PTT and the camera.. it takes horrible pictures, haha! [=

You'd still have to effectively block Google's "Play" services and prevent the phoning home... IOW, you'd have to know what you're doing. If you install CyanogenMod/LineageOS instead, but then install all of Google's services, you're not safer than before. As far as I know, anyway...

I've had a Nokia 8110, basically an early adopter. It was so full of bugs and slow, and crappy battery that I gave up after 10 days and returned it to the seller. Now I'm using a Nokia 3310 dual sim 2G version (2017 model) and it's much more stable and the battery lasts a long time. The extra features of the 8110 were tempting but they were so poorly implemented that it didn't matter in the end. So now I have this Nokia as my main phone and my old iPhone 7 as a backup (I turn it on everyday basically just to check whatsapp). Oh, I live in Italy and the GSM network is still supported by most providers here. I would probably switch to something 4G in the future, maybe the 8110 again if they fixed all the bugs in the meantime, or maybe some 3310 4G model if they make one for Italy

I have been doing research on basic phones and found the Sonim XP5s. It is a dumb phone, very durable, water proof and long lasting battery. It also appears to support 4G networks. On Verizon(United States) it is $288, but since it is durable and has 4G, it could last you a long time. It is designed for those who work hard labor. Looking on the Verizon website, it appears as though smartphones have become cheaper than most basic phones. Trying to eliminate the distractions that the smart phone creates.

All of the 2g, 3g mentions are regarding your data connection. Why does that matter when the point of a dumb phone is to disconnect? If your dumb phone has a cdma radio then it will work on a cdma network, if it's a GSM phone then it works on a GSM network. It's much easier than you are making it sound. If a phone doeant support 3g it will revert to whatever speed the radio supports but that's only a concern if you want to be online which goes against having a dumb phone to avoid tracking. Cdma phones work on cdma networks such as sprint and Verizon. GSM phones work with at&t, and t mobile and whatever other networks there are. If it's an unlocked phone it will work with any carrier that supports the type of phone you bought, cdma or GSM.

I am hoping you can help me out I am in Canada, I am trying to get a KiaOS phone that does GPS and works on 4G. i am looking at the Cat B35 and the Nokia tough. I have contacted the companies directly and KiaOS and no one is giving me a straight answer. I also can't sort out if they will be able to be charged with North American voltage of 110 not 220 as in the EU/UK. I am quite confused! I bought a litephone2 but its crazy expensive! I want to return it I have not opened it. I don't know what the directions would be like it but thats kinda important for me. Also if I am going camping or something I need to be able to check emails occasionally. So i think the KiaOS is the better system for me, but I am quite worried about my privacy and the google assistant. Wondering if you can help me! Do you know if the Tough of B35 will work in Canada? Do you know what type of charger it uses?

I think it's pretty cool that you are able to use a dumbphone. I use a free US Government cell phone from the Lifeline program. Sadly, they don't accept dumbphones. I use it sparingly. I haven't got around to it yet but my model is rootable so I can change the OS and not use Google. I know they record everything. I don't ever say or type anything over this phone I wouldn't say in a church.

I have a landline, but my children, who are now adults, insist on texting and never call me on the landline, unless they can't reach me when I have my cell phone off. It annoys them though, when my cell is off. But they don't call me on it. they just keep texting. So the cat b30 has internet so basically is still going to be trackable and subject to Google data hauls.... Why did you opt for that one and not the Nokia 3310?
@ScottiesTech5 жыл бұрын
The data dumps are a "feature" of Android. No Android, no tracking (of that particular type). Neither the B30 nor the 3310 use Android. Both are internet-capable I think, but essentially useless for that kind of thing due to the tiny screens and crappy web browsers.
@terracethornhill5 жыл бұрын
It's not really the smartphone that's the problem, it's the data plan. Switch to talk and text and you still get to take advantage of the other useful things your smartphone can do that a dumb phone can't, like turn by turn navigation (with an app like Maps.me which doesn't need data). As a bonus, you don't have to buy anything to do it.
