We call them burner phones. They are supposed to be cheap. You use it for whatever you need and get rid of it to never use again. Usually phones like this are used to commit a crime or some illegal activity. That can be anything from making a phonecall to even avoiding taxes, avoiding being traced.

Yea dumb phones are probably more difficult to obtain right now then they've ever been. If you're in the USA your options pretty much only consist of the Alcatel Go Flip; from what I've researched every carrier will have 3g and 2g dropped by the end of 2019 and the 8110 simply does not work on our towers. The light(phone) at the end of the tunnel is that the 3110 and 8110 obviously have a following and any quick google search will reveal there is a demand for 4g dumb phones that is not being met. More people everywhere wants to get less connected and it should only be a matter of time before the market picks up on that.

Don't have to choose - still using My Motorola dumb phone purchased 15 years ago, and I pay the huge sum of $10 a month to use it. Figure I saved at least $10,000 over the past 15 years, never experienced the frustrations of a smart phone, no one can track me, turn on my microphone or video without me knowing, and I use a real camera (Nikon D850) and not the rinky dink toy cameras found in even the best of cellphones (ie:I compared the fairly new Samsung S22 to my Nikon - no comparison at all...). And I know enough to shoot horizontal video, meaning no narrow stripe of video with black on both sides - unless you only look at the videos on a miniature screen like a cellphome.

Here in Macedonia 2G would be supported for many years to come too. I recently bought a very cheap Alcatel phone in a store in my city (that phone is no longer available in my country) for 21 euros. The model name is Alcatel 2002d. It's a 2.5 G phone, it only has GPRS, no EDGE. The best thing about this phone is it's huge 1800mAh battery. It lasted me 15 days on a single charge. If you want a phone for calling and texting and you find this phone, I strongly recommend it, especially for it's long lasting battery life.

Between these vids and the tribble and the feminist Alexa you have a new follower tonight! I dug my (3G) Nokia E71 out of the drawer last year & it's been running great (QWERTY keyboard!). Won't be supported forever but calls, SMS, MMS, all work great. 10 years ago was the most advanced phone on the market. Fortunately my provider (Mint Mobile in US) support team has been friendly & hasn't pushed me around about it either. My two cents to add, if you do go for a legacy phone, in the old days the advice was to always buy the OEM battery. But now that they aren't made any more, they're all counterfeit now, or past their shelf life, so buy third party so you have someone who's actually standing behind their brand name. I found a German company called Polarcell that works great. Also I have a feeling you would dig the "No Agenda" podcast. Just a hunch!

Solution: 4G dumbphone with an OS that doesn't spy on you and costs peanuts, that would be a used BB10 phone. It currently still has browsing capabilities and some functional apps but their smart functionality is dying pretty quick. But the phone and text functions will be around as long as 4G. Yet stillplenty of useful pre-internet functions like radio, flashlight, alarm, camera... The perfect disconnected phone.

@@DieselTrucker2018 That's exactly what I have (actually a Z30 on 10.3.3 to be precise). As a bonus I have to add, since turning off WiFi and data the thing runs for a week on the battery charged to 80% and run down to 20%, unless you use the phone/text a lot. Keeping the battery charge between 20 and 80 percent will help it last a long, long time.

While it does support the amazon app store, you can easily ignore it if you so wish and use the device either as a dumb phone at it's most basic state, or snap up some of the bb10 application before black berry world (I think that's what the app store on it was called, but I'm not 100% sure) closes down and make it into a basic feature phone.

Here is an idea. On my smartphone and guessing some other smartphones there is an option like "ultra stamina mode". (The name might change from brand to brand.) On this mode your phone kills every advenced smartphone application and google services to save power. So you're only left with calling, texting, clock/calendar, music, camera and pictures. Having played about with the smartphones a bit here are tips for users who are forced to operate the thing: Disable the 4G, this can be turned back on if you need extra bandwidth momentarily but otherwise should not be used. Turn off the data, this can be toggled on to collect messages and emails as required but you should definately keep this turned off as the data packet seems to be more dangerous than the other signaling (except calls). It goes without saying you should have the NFC, WiFi and Bluetooth disabled. These tips are for those who are forced to use the device, those who are not should use aeroplane mode extensively especially EMF sensitives. EMF senstives should keep the phone a couple of inches from the body even in aeroplane mode as it may emit a small magnetic field which may cycle frequencies, I believe this is due to the CPU speedstepping and poor shielding.

Kind of agree to your kaios critism. Have a cat b35 phone, after the latest OS upgrade, they added a "wonderful" easy-to-reach menu on left side of screen (kind of like the bottom menu in Apple OS). But there are only the "app store" and the google services, so it is completely useless (bloated). To reach most used functions such as alarm or sms, takes uncomfortable many key clicks.

Many used cars have trackers mounted in them. New cars do too. So get an antique car. No computer! Get a GPS receive only, get an old receive only pager, access the internet through a VPN far from where you live. Now for this phone thing... Preferably none. Best bet would actually be a sip connection through Wi-Fi encrypted voice link only. People who call you should be equally paranoid. They need compatible encryption set up. Hopefully rubber hose Oracle decryption will not take place. A dark net message dead drop might be useful. You also need a flying saucer to commute back and forth to a civilized world. I was excited about the Punkt MP02 Pigeon phone because it supports Signal, but then I learned it has Wifi, VoLTE and it uses non google android. The latter means that Pegasus could easily target it so I don't even know what to use.

I've had a Nokia 8110, basically an early adopter. It was so full of bugs and slow, and crappy battery that I gave up after 10 days and returned it to the seller. Now I'm using a Nokia 3310 dual sim 2G version (2017 model) and it's much more stable and the battery lasts a long time. The extra features of the 8110 were tempting but they were so poorly implemented that it didn't matter in the end. So now I have this Nokia as my main phone and my old iPhone 7 as a backup (I turn it on everyday basically just to check whatsapp). Oh, I live in Italy and the GSM network is still supported by most providers here. I would probably switch to something 4G in the future, maybe the 8110 again if they fixed all the bugs in the meantime, or maybe some 3310 4G model if they make one for Italy

I have been doing research on basic phones and found the Sonim XP5s. It is a dumb phone, very durable, water proof and long lasting battery. It also appears to support 4G networks. On Verizon(United States) it is $288, but since it is durable and has 4G, it could last you a long time. It is designed for those who work hard labor. Looking on the Verizon website, it appears as though smartphones have become cheaper than most basic phones. Trying to eliminate the distractions that the smart phone creates.

All of the 2g, 3g mentions are regarding your data connection. Why does that matter when the point of a dumb phone is to disconnect? If your dumb phone has a cdma radio then it will work on a cdma network, if it's a GSM phone then it works on a GSM network. It's much easier than you are making it sound. If a phone doeant support 3g it will revert to whatever speed the radio supports but that's only a concern if you want to be online which goes against having a dumb phone to avoid tracking. Cdma phones work on cdma networks such as sprint and Verizon. GSM phones work with at&t, and t mobile and whatever other networks there are. If it's an unlocked phone it will work with any carrier that supports the type of phone you bought, cdma or GSM.

I am hoping you can help me out I am in Canada, I am trying to get a KiaOS phone that does GPS and works on 4G. i am looking at the Cat B35 and the Nokia tough. I have contacted the companies directly and KiaOS and no one is giving me a straight answer. I want to return it I have not opened it. I don't know what the directions would be like it but thats kinda important for me. Also if I am going camping or something I need to be able to check emails occasionally. So i think the KiaOS is the better system for me, but I am quite worried about my privacy and the google assistant. Wondering if you can help me! Do you know if the Tough of B35 will work in Canada? It's not really the smartphone that's the problem, it's the data plan. Switch to talk and text and you still get to take advantage of the other useful things your smartphone can do that a dumb phone can't, like turn by turn navigation (with an app like Maps.me which doesn't need data).
