Reflex is def the best all around choice. I remember making a set of x2 proline fugitives last several months and race days with incredible consistency at Indy RC world.

I'd be happy just be able to run on a track for the first time and see what I can do....I always run it on the road or yard....gets kinda boring but it's all I got here in Arkansas 😊

Great 2 part series. What compound / tire tread would you suggest for asphalt racing? Unfortunately, that is the closest racing in my area so would appreciate your input. Thank you.
@johnnycash7803 Жыл бұрын
I would say some type of slick or bar tire an pick the compound based track temp. I could be wrong so correct me Adam if I am.

Awesome info! Thanks . Do you have opinions on when to change to a Kosmo please
@AdamDrake2 жыл бұрын
Kosmos work great when the track is fluffy or a lot of loose dirt on the surface and bumpy.

I race at Thornhill which is a covered outdoor track where they run dry hard pack for big race events and it typically grooves up pretty nicely during the mains. Our last big event I ran a set of Raw Speed SLW Radars where I ran the same set of tires throughout the entire weekend on my eBuggy. I sauced them with PB Blaster before every single heat including the mains. What I noticed was that as the tread slowly wore out, the tires would continue to get faster each round to where they peaked in A1 where they were ghosted in the center and the bars were barely visible on the edge. By the end of A2 they were complete slicks and grip was fantastic so long as I stayed in the groove but just a pinch slower than A1 with bars on the side. A2 (full slicks) was still faster than my fastest qualifier,roughly 15% tread still visible at the end of Q3. This had me wondering if I would be better off buying true slicks which have a thicker carcass which would drastically improve my tire wear. Just not sure if the thicker carcass would degrade traction. Do you have any experience running slicks on blue groove conditions? Here's a link to the tire I was running that ghosted to slicks: rawspeedrc.com/radar-1-8-buggy-tires-w-inserts-1-pr/ Here's the slicks with a thicker carcass and I'm tempted to try these out but kinda nervous to take the risk for a big race event, ha! rawspeedrc.com/slick-1-8-buggy-tires-w-inserts-1-pr/ This weekend (club race) they watered the track to where traction felt very similar to the grip at SDRC where my bar tires had caked up completely with mud and that got me thinking that I might need to be running ghosted slicks instead of bars anyway in this condition... I know they run slicks at SCRC for 1/10 racing which I had the pleasure to race there last month and would love to hear your findings in case you've already done testing with slicks for 1/8 cars in these conditions. If you zoom in on the buggy in the following pic you can see the slicks immediately after the big race event where they race the track dry and blue grooved: live.staticflickr.com/65535/52542676832_e6b55284d7_3k.jpg My lap times were roughly 0.5 sec faster than other drivers of equal skill as me where we typically hit the same lap times, but I was clearly faster with running slicks on dry blue groove. It would also be nice to have a video covering when you use sauce and tire warmers, I started saucing my tires after seeing Jared Tebo sauce his tires at Thornhill for a big event earlier this year. It wasn't until I raced at SDRC when I learned from those guys that PB Blaster was the best sauce out there and sure enough I've been seeing great results with PB Blaster at Thornhill too.
