I do like the 2 person explanations. Sometimes whenever one person is explaining something, they overlook things they consider common knowledge. In this case, one guy was acting as though he didn't know anything about the shocks, and asking questions as though as though he was a customer. I dig it.

Adjustable valving is great. Both my vehicles have it, and I have no regrets in the suspensions I put in. It sucks to think that you could potentially spend big money on a great system, only to have it set not exactly how you'd like it.

I was hoping more for a video that explains what each shock does as far as if I am have a Baja truck, “this shock” would be good because it can keep the dampening consistent on a run, or if I was a rock crawler, “this type of shock” would be good because.... or if I was a daily driver and a weekend light off roader, “ this type of shock would be good because”.... this video seemed more of a technical explanation which was a little beyond me which is not a hard core off roader so I still don’t know which shock to get for my type of off roading as far as mono tube, coil over, bypass, remote coil over etc.....
@larrydivine3394
@larrydivine3394 4 жыл бұрын
The adjustment knob shown, is that for compression or or rebound damping? Can I get both? Preload, yes it will make the shock stiffer but also sets suspension sag. Sag is needed for negative travel (ie; pot holes) where the tire drops down. Valving has everything to do with the ride. How quickly the oil move through the holes determines how quickly the shock compresses and/or rebounds (Based on adjustments and preset valves).
@brianbirc
@brianbirc 4 жыл бұрын
The key to coilovers are not like those. It is the dual spring coilovers with different coil springs one softer than the other. The soft spring for small bumps and graduation to the stiffer spring for larger ones. The ability to set the valves on bypass reservoirs and coil overs like Kings for the weight of your vehicle and the position sensitive valving and rebound (speed of return) is f ing amazing with speed over rough terrain not spilling your drink in control vs crashing, rolling and getting stuck. Thanks again Bret for my Bronco shock work. After thanking you at the Mint 400 I saw close pics of BJ and said nice pic when did you take this ? She mentioned the kids with him and said I was on a mission to the King trailer. I said do you know who this is ? No she said I said BJ Baldwin and he may have come with or sent a message he runs them too LOL Bret smiled with thanks and introduced me to The King of Kings.

6:05 info about emulsion shocks is incorrect. An emulsion shock has the fluid and the gas in the same cavity i.e. thats the emulsion. in IFP shocks the floating piston separates the two. IFP prevents aeration of the fluid and improves damping/ reduces shock fade.

Stiffer doesn't mean better. Unless you're jumping it like the Dukes of Hazzard. You're really the only thing your shocks need to do is keep your tires in contact with the road and absorb impacts to protect the suspension and body. Bilstein come standard on the Mercedes Porsche. I put the Bilstien 4600"s on a Ford F-150 SuperCrew and it rides better then day one coming out to the showroom floor. And more importantly on the highway effortless it just stays where it belongs and rolls right on down the road it's a lot easier to drive that's comfortable too

What’s missing in these reviews is the impact to your vehicle towing capacity. Especially if you go with a coil over vs a standard shock replacement. As well if your vehicle is a truck with airbags, or spring options. I get it jeeps, light trucks vs HD truck applications.

I have a 2011 Silverado z71 crew cab that i recently installed the bilstein 5100 leveling shocks on. Put the snap spring on the highest setting. The truck looks great....but i can't stand the ride it's so stiff every bump is jarring. Can you you tell me which shock i should go with to get a smooth ride and keep the same look. I don't do much offroading more of a daily live on dirt roads that's abou it. I replaced upper and lower ball joints tie rod ends and sway bar links. So all i could think it would be is the shocks. Never remember it riding that rough. Should i put pucks on and some different shocks or go with a rancho quik lift or rc leveling shocks?

This review lacks information. Can you give information vs probly, maybe, I guess explanations. What are the temperature differences between shocks. Temp reduces dampening effectiveness in shocks. That’s the reason to upgrade your shocks. I would have to say your tire reviews have more meat. I have watched tons of KZbin videos on truck accessories and this was kinda of weak. You guys give great information but just left me wondering why I watched this.

Looking to replace my rancho shocks that came stock on a 2018 Silverado 2500hd. Mainly looking for a smoother ride since it’s mostly daily driven. What would you guys recommend?

@@CustomOffsetsTV I think its more just knowledge and picking and pulling parts.....I chose superlift because it's what Mopar tries branding as the in-house lift their warranty stepped up and the 5100 upgrade for my 16 ram 1500 was nice....I was also told to run the fox 2.0 from zone id have other trimming from multiple installers so that pushed me away....but I'd run a zone with hd arms and fox 2.0s and I think is comes out cheaper or same as a barley modified bds kit.....if rough country offered outside shocks I believe they would kill the game.

aluminum is lighter and better at dissipating heat usually breaks when impacted...steel has a tendency to bend or dent depending on its hardening(&$).ride quality is in valving and can be augmented usually when ordered or by user so in the bush, on the rocks or in the mud, if something jams or contacts your shocks it could make the difference of limping out with a sag and still providing dampening , while carrying extra weight or shedding that extra weight and risking possibly just hammering the absolute hell out of one corner of your vehicle

Does the Vertex Coilover ride almost like a stock ride when set at the mildest setting? And also is there a minimum lift height? I own a 2020 Chevy Trail Boss and am considering the Vertex Coilover but would like to add only an additional 2" - 2.5" on my Trail Boss ride height on the front end. 2nd concern is I just purchased a set of Black Rhino Primms 20 x 9.5s with -12 offset from Custom Offsets and if I decide to go with the Vertex Coilovers...will my wheels fit being that I only want an additional 2" up front? Or do I need to go higher(4" inches)??? FYI...wheels are at your facility(order #528260) on the assembly line/QC line. I am SUPER EXCITED!!!

The thing is that everyone that wants to pimp out their truck really needs to research all this first.. if your a mechanic and already know what’s what then your a step ahead... I’m not a mechanic. I can do the basics but I don’t know much about what’s out there for aftermarket parts.. and a guy has to think this through.. you could easily make a costly error in buying decisions....

What do you recommend for a 2017 Ford F-150 with a 6” BDS lift in it. The back end jumps around like hell. Curious if a good set of shocks will help that.

Shocks could definitely help, also check to see if you have extra helper springs for towing. Could also cause it

@@CustomOffsetsTV ok I’ll look into that. I was also wondering if 37/1350/18 tires would fit. I believe it’s been trimmed already.

Shocks and coil overs are huge differences apart to do an all in video diminishes the advantages of both for some consumers. With my truck being a wishbone system vs a McPherson system that plays a HUGE amount in ride.

But at the same time the newer truck are getting to BEEFIER McPherson systems. So, i guess it’s a new truck vs old truck comparison
