Good tutorial ....it is difficult to explain in general because you almost need to do a "how to " for every type of car.... sometimes its enough to just bend the pillars in... sometimes you have to cut the roof in even 6 pieces.... I really enjoy your calm and easy to understand video.... keep em coming I'll keep on watching...
@DocsKustomKorner523 жыл бұрын
True, you nailed it there. It is hard to do this in general but at least people that have never done it will have the basic understanding in it. Yes sometimes it's a simple bend the a-pillars back and yes sometimes it's cut the roof into multiple pieces. I have a Revell Beetle I chopped the roof on and ended up with 21 pieces of a roof on it to get the "Flow" to look right on the finished chop! I try to explain to people so the ones that have never done this will have an idea as to what they have ahead of them when they want to try it. Also I like to give info as to why so they aren't wondering... "Why am I doing this again?" as they embark on their own... LOL Trust me I was there when I started cutting, I knew it looked kool but didn't know why!! Have a great week!!

Thanks for sharing your tips here. Very, very helpful. One thing I learned when I did try chopping a top was to do any clean up sanding first [as if I was getting ready to paint] because on the two projects I tries years ago, both failed when I tried to sand any flash and mold lines. That way I take away one aspect that might be a problem after I chop it. Didn't know how to properly chop tops so I'm sure that had a lot to do with why mine failed too. This series has restored my nerves to try again! Thanks.

Won't you have to cut the glass to fit the narrowed roof? Great Video!
@DocsKustomKorner523 жыл бұрын
Yes! You’ll always have to cut the glass or find other glass that fits the contours and such better. Then cut them down to fit! That’ll be the last part of this segment!
@davidjohnson84743 жыл бұрын
The way I usually cut is by using a small disk on a dremel but I use the saw too!
@DocsKustomKorner523 жыл бұрын
I use a Dremel with a cut off wheel too. I like to use a regular saw for cutting long panel lines just so the "kerf" or line I'm cutting doesn't end up wavy or out of true, that way it's a straight line.. The Dremel is my best friend in modeling though!!! LOL
