This is the ultimate piece on my bucket list. Your masterclass is great - it’s exactly the kind of explanation I need. I hope you do explainers for the rest of the piece. There are just so many challenging sections in this masterpiece.

This individual has her shit together. Able to adapt to modern ways of making a living via a youtube channel, has the work ethic of pre gen z. Did it the hard way and found a discipline she loves and mastered it, Went the traditional route to get her qualifications and now does concerts all over the world. This is what a succesful hard working person looks like.

Preach. A lot of jealous snobs give Annique so much flack for being an influencer and therefore not a “serious concert pianist” lmao. Similar to Tiffany Poon. Gottler has intelligently adapted to the modern digital world and it is paying off for her in spades.

About 10 years ago, Alan Rusbridger, the editor-in-chief of the Guardian and an advanced hobby pianist, set himself the aim to master this piece within a year. The effort was followed by a regular column, lots of discussion and finally a book. Quite interesting.

I played the piano for 11 years (ofc I still do, just outside music school) My piano teacher was like a mom to me. She taught me the exact same exercises you showed here. It’s very comforting to be taught to these hints by you like back in the the “old” days. She asked me to play these parts over and over again. You’ve unlocked a sweet a memory. 🥹

Thank you so much for this Annique. I played this piece until the coda when I was 17 and never managed to get through the last pages. Now, 30 years later, with your help I picked it up again and thanks to this video was able to practise and play these first bars of the coda. Looking forward to a video about how to handle the next few bars. Which seems to be maybe the most tricky part of the whole Ballade (at least to me).

Thank you for this video, it really highlights the important motions that go into playing the piano with proper technique. Sometimes I try to watch professional pianist recordings of classical music, but it can be hard to follow because they are playing at tempo so I don’t notice what they’re doing different from me. This was helpful!

I remember when I first started practicing this part of the coda around 1 year ago and sincerely I hadn’t such a clear and straight plan to practice passages like this so it took me many weeks to master the coda, more or less. I’m really not very disciplined in following certain plans so I guess it could be hard for me to work as structured as you do here - your input is great though. Maybe for the next difficult pieces I could implements such helpful and well-structured step by step techniques.

Exellent. I know how long it takes to learn well because I learned to play this Ballade. Here in this lesson with a play along things become very clear. ❤ -- only, how to adjust the pitch to not be a half note off? With an electric piano that is easier.

Hello Annique , you are the perfect teacher. I am a late beginner, I started piano after I retired, may be a bit late, you make it look so easy. There’s one thing I’d like to ask about the pedal, is there a specific technique for it or is it a matter of intuition?.

Dear Annique, thank you for this video. This is on my list now :) I am learning chopin nocturne no. 7. My French teacher would like me to use the soft pedal at the beginning of the piece. However I am not sure if good pianist would do so: earlier when I was in Germany, my German teacher told not me not to use the soft pedal while playing the introduction of mozart fantasy d minor. Since then I always thought that with a good technic it is possible to master playing piano without the soft pedal. What are your thoughts on this? How would you use soft pedal? Especially for Chopin are there some pieces for which it is okay yo use it even if it is not indicated on the sheet? Also, does the instrument make a difference in this respect (so you would absolutely need to use the soft pedal for some piano only) ? I hope you will read my message _ and I hope to read, or even better hear your thoughts in a new video!

So I’m learning this piece right now and I’m a little confused about the pedaling. Do you pedal on the low note in the left hand or the high note? On the sheet music I see pedal on the high note but it seems most people play out the low note. Idk if I am just reading the sheet music wrong, can someone help me out? Edit: nvm, I figured it out. This is what happens when u r self taught and can’t read sheet music correctly lol
@glad5713 күн бұрын
Ah ok, so it’s on the down beat of the higher note of the left hand bcuz you want to cut off the bass note when playing the high note. Ofc pedaling can vary with interpretation but I wish more ppl explained pedaling when playing Chopin’s pieces. It is kind of confusing.
