crazy how I just started learning this, my name is Ryan, and this was dedicated to me 7 years before I even started playing piano. Crazy shit.

Very good lesson. The pedal seems to be over looked by so many players. I also appreciate the learning process that you so well articulate. The different camera angles provide variety. The angle of the foot was worth a 1000 notes! Have you ever considered shooting your videos with multiple cameras simultaneously and spending a few minutes editing them into the final video? It may make the video easier to shoot.

I was thinking about learning this piece to work on my fast release and scale technique! By the way, I LOVE the pedal angle! I always have so many pedal questions! Definitely an inspiring video, Josh!! :)

I think one should always try and practice musically. Some good advice in this video, but I feel like doing forte on the melody in a practice routine isn't good. I think rhythm stop practice would serve better. A concert pianist, Frederic Chiu, gave us a master class on technique and I found that playing musically, relaxed and very slowly really helps better in the long run when speeding up. Your muscle memory kicks in and one would be able to recall the feeling of playing slow at a faster tempo. Good tutorial and thanks for sharing.

Anyone who is attempting this etude should know enough about pedal technique to not have to be told anything on the subject. A good pianist has the right foot connected to the EARS. For this piece, I would think a feathered pedaling would be perfect. The dampers never get much off the string, the foot never loses touch with the pedal, and the control of the foot is purely based upon what is being heard at any instant in the performance.

Thank you for your advice. Im working on this etude and needed a new perspective in its aproach. As well as Trifonov I would recomend Louis Lortie videos in youtube. Greetings from Spain

I find a problem not easy to solve in this etude, Josh: how to do "molto legato" as Chopin wants at the same time that we play presto with clarity and not loosing notes. Is the pedal enough to get legato? And in that case is better approaching this etude with the fingertips in order to get clarity?

I've been practicing for 3 years and I can't achieve clarity at speed. It becomes mushy and I feel like I can't control my hands anymore when I play at 120 bpm. Currently I can play at 100 bpm (I could play like that from a year too), so I think I'm not making progress with this piece anymore. I need to change something, but not sure what to do! :(
