Noah No need to be technical about terms. Song, piece, whatever you want to call it. We all know what he/she meant.

Willy J Eh, even still, calling something like this a song is kinda of disrespectful to the medium. You wouldn't call a Spielberg film a video recording right? It's wrong technically, a song must have words or be have human voices in it, and it misrepresents the music, even if it was out of pure ignorance.

Requiem D minor by Mozart and his own prelude E minor were at Chopin's funeral...
@thecheesemister19 жыл бұрын
I'm not an expert in music but I just wanted to write this review about this piece. I feel like Chopin beautifully describes a funeral. The first quarter, slow and sad, you don't want to the funeral to begin but it must. The middle half (2nd and 3rd part) is describing your wonderful memories with the person. The last quarter, slow and sad again because you know those are the last moments you'll have with that "person"/body for the rest of your life.

+thecheesemister1 Think: Victorian. Death is the new Sex. The B-section ballet is the eroticism which then informs the repeat of the A mortuary section.

Interesting take. I have always been puzzled about what that beautiful, innocent sounding midsection could represent, since it is nothing like the rest of the piece.
@JohnJohn-cz9jv7 жыл бұрын
A funeral back when Chopin was around didn't quiet take place like they do now. They were more religious and joyful like a passing of piece. The beginning and altered sections from the beginning which also occur at the end sound joyful under the repetition of chords. Just listen to the melody if you can, the entire piece is quite happy/mellow.

I wish I could like this comment more than once. The more creative people in the world tend to feel emotions a lot stronger than everyone else, giving them the ability to express and produce works that are a lot stronger then what a normal person is used to. The consequence being that they have to live with the internal struggle of being more sensitive to their own emotions.

Planned out my funeral. I want this to be played. I think like Chopin. But I don’t have the nerve to use this many dissonant chords in a consonant manner. It almost sounds normal. I just love this. Chopin is my second favorite composer (with Rachmaninov as my favorite and Liszt as my third choice). It’s just perfect. The way Chopin wrote this, it’s just like he meant for it to sound like the mood of oneself at the funeral of a loved one. The first bit reminds me of that feeling of how you don’t want to be there, just sitting like you can’t do anything. The second bit is like you’re reminiscing of your past spent with that person and how much you loved each other. The last bit shifts back to that sadness, as you know you won’t be able to spend time with that person anymore because they’re dead... Well done, Chopin. Well done.

I can relate the first part to my perpetually heavy, sad and hopeless depressive state. the middle part sounded like nostalgic memories from childhood, gives a melancholic thought, that the good days were in the past now and remains only a memory. then it goes back to the main theme, coming to the realization that it is impossible to bring back the past now. it's impossible to bring the old me back to life now. the old, happy, carefree me has been dead long ago.

+edaciousellis It really isn't, and it isn't a song, as it has no singing. Here in New Zealand it's common for a few hymns to be played, quite often Abide With Me and Amazing Grace. Funeral Marches are a thing of yesteryear, funerals aren't usually treated as a tragedy now, but a celebration of one's life. This isn't the only funeral march either, there are literally hundreds. Also, with the eastern-asian sound his name has, his family or culture might dictate something else.

Most people only hear the first few notes, which is just pathetic. We need to bring back classical education.

This song plays when the days are cold, the skies are grey , the vibe is black, pale faces filled with grief and pain, blood is spilled , sadness covers the world . When I walk the streets at dawn I can just barely catch a glimpse of the sun and it’s beautiful light ..but that is soon taken away by the darkness . We gather here today for all to witness my death , I will not be put into the ground , I will not be incinerated , I will not be reincarnated, simply I will walk with the undead ..I cannot die ..I have to much business to continue before I die .. so like i said I will not die . For those who will ..I give you a blessing. I miss the days with happiness and light ..but that has soon burned to ash , I miss the days of sunlight and warmth..but that has turned colder than ice, I miss the smile on my face along with others ...but that has turned to frowns filled with sadness and utter pain.

A song representing true depression and loneliness. Chopin knows.
