(disclaimer: armchair psychiatrist) I think he exhibits some form borderline personality disorder. He’s obsessed with his image and reputation. Empathy is feigned when he might get something out of a friendship, like romance or sex. Other than that, he has no regard for the feelings of others. It’s all about what he wants. He seems to apologize with canned responses, but only when people hold him accountable. When his sincerity is challenged, he blames the autism. I might be wrong, but I don’t think the two are linked. I feel for him because of the humiliation he’s endured, but then I’m not sure if he feels any sense of guilt. I think that’s what makes this so fascinating. We have the sociopathy and the autism, and that combination leads to some very ‘unique’ circumstances.

Imagine this: It’s 2010, Jerry Seinfeld, the creator of the hit 90s tv show Seinfeld, the voice actor for Berry B. Benson, the main character of the 2007 hit classic Bee Movie, walks up on stage. The audience claps, and the crowd starts to quiet down. At this point the room is completely silent, and Jerry Seinfeld starts to speak. To be honest, Bob nor Barbara should have been parents this late in their life, by the time chris was in his mid 20s, Bob was so senior that he should have been in a nursing home. My God, I was about to write "Chris suffered so we wouldn't have to suffer ourselves", meaning "people can learn from his mistakes" but if you add a 't' to his name... He actually really is high-functioning autistic under the old terminology. Low-functioning autistics were people phisically incapable of taking care of themselves: they didnt had the mental capacity to talk, clean themselves, feed themselves, etc. High functioning ones, like Chris, were the ones capable of such. This scale was never meant to indicate intelligence or social skills, but rather ability to literally take care of oneself, which Chris has always clearly been capable of. Its because of cases like Chris that this terminology is not used anymore. Now Autism is described as a spectrum

Or even just monitored him somehow. There are so many things Bob and Barb could have done! -Put a password on his computer that he didn't know so he would have to ask for permission first. -Set a timer for how much internet time he's allowed to have a day and enforce the time limit. -Shared social media/email accounts with him so that they could see all of his interactions. -Put parental locks on certain websites that he was dealing with trolls on so be wouldn't be tempted to argue with them there. -Taught him about what is okay and not okay to tell/show strangers on the internet. -Taught him how to ignore/block trolls. -Taken away his camera. -Checked his browser history. -Sat next to him watching over his shoulder while he goes online. Oh wait, that would require effort, addressing a problem instead of ignoring it, and getting with the times instead of just ignoring new technology because they're old.

@@skivvy3565 I don't think that's exactly true, Chris' rage seems very genuine. He knows to feel shame when someone calls him out, and rage when they don't do what he wants. He may not understand love or compassion, but he rarely fakes his rage outbursts. Empathy is what Chris does not have. He doesn't know how to feel sad for someone else, that's why when a gal pal "dies" or "dumps" him, he moves on very quickly. He has no real concept of attachment to others, only things that he feels are "his" - like you would a cherished posession. Most of his shows of compassion or love are performances. Like you said he got most of his understanding of socialising from television, so he knows how he's supposed to behave in some situations, but he lacks tact or maturity to behave beyond a pre-teen level.

@Tommy Wen well, at the time he said it he was mostly right. But we are getting into the era that kinda marked the end of classic chris soon. The fire, court dates, tomboy, and yes, bobs death.

Detective Bloor I guess it all depends on the equality act being voted on by the senate right now. It’ll be awhile before he’s sentenced considering it’s been 73 days and he hasn’t even had his plea hearing to my knowledge. So we won’t know until he’s sentenced

In April we're locked down everywhere because of a quarantine. Out of boredom I found this series and vaguely remembered Chris Chan as that sonic OC guy with autism, that later got mad about Sonic Boom because of sonic's arms. I thought I'd give this a watch for fun. Oh Child. Not much more fun to be had, but I'm hooked on this shit.

You know, I wonder how many women were saved from being sexually assaulted by Chris since there were a whole lot of trolls impersonating potential sweethearts to distract him from actual women during this period. Although, you could make the argument that Chris got more sexually deranged because of trolls, so who knows.

In some twisted way, I thank the trolls for diverting Chris away from women, cause there's no doubt that he would be a sexual abuser (in Barbara's case, he is)
