A Thoughts from Places video in which John Green attends Book Expo America in New York City, also known as BEA, where he thinks about celebrity and secular worship after meeting the super-cool Chris Colfer from Glee, as well as some of his favorite writers, including Darin Strauss and Jeffrey Eugenides. Also discussed are writers M. T. Anderson, Shannon Hale, Cassandra Clare, Libba Bray, Michael Chabon, Kadir Nelson, Ally Condie, and Lois Lowry. And some so-called real housewives. Boy, that's a lot of name-dropping.

As someone who's met Chris at one of his signings, his hair is seriously the first and _only_ thing you can look at while talking to him! it's so high and perfectly coiffed, it defies the laws of physics!

Chris Colfer was the reason I first got into Nerdfighteria. I watched videos of him speaking at BEA and introducing John. The way John responded to him in such a hilarious, witty way really resonated with me. Out of curiosity I read TFiOS and realized how talented a writer John is. Now I'm watching all the vlogbrothers videos and I've come to LOVE John and Hank. They've opened my eyes to a new way of thinking and perceiving the world. So thanks, Chris and John, for being such awesome people.

John, I just discovered this blog today, and have spent quite some time watching your videos. A couple vids in, I already decided that you and your brother are now two of my favorite people. It was not until this video that I discovered that you are the very John Green who wrote Paper Towns, a book that impacted my view of human connection hugely, and your ideas certainly helped me develop my self-identity as a growing adolescent. So I want to take this time to thank both of you brothers, and a

Love your final thought in this video! Also, a librarian from the middle school I work at waited in line to meet you because I jokingly remarked that if she happened to see you at the book expo that she should go tell you I'm a nerdfighter. And she actually did. And she took a video of you saying hi to me, which totally made my day. So thanks, John, and DFTBA right back at you!

I really love how when you make videos like this you go from talking in "normal/Vlog voice" to talking in what I feel is definitely your full on narrator voice, and because I'd heard that voice before reading any of your books, when I did get round to reading a few (An Abundance of Katherines and Will Grayson Will Grayson so far, looking into getting more) this is the voice that read them in my head.

I feel the same way about meeting tv/movie people vs meeting authors. I can have a nice little chat with an actor I admire, but BEA turns me into a babbling ball of nerves. Very true. My boyfriend and I used to live across the street from his favorite author, Ursula K. Le Guin, but in three years, neither of us ever talked to her. When we went to a signing by his 2nd-favorite author, Neil Gaiman, I was the only one of us able to muster more than a "hello" while getting books signed. However, as a musician, there's nothing more terrifying for me than knowing other musicians are in the audience, even though I get to play with some of the giants in my genre.

I really love reading nerd-fighter comments. It gives one a sense of achievement to be a part of a well spoken (or, well, typed) community of individuals. I'm a part of many fandoms - but this is by far one of my favorites, even though I'm sort of new to it all. It's a community where questions are asked, opinions are stated as opinions (as opposed to facts) and people are just genuinely awesome. Thanks John and Hank, for providing a teenager with some hope.
