Chris literally took us thru his life with his lyrics. He said in an interview that his music was his autobiography. Chris told us.

Chris wrote and sang with his heart and soul. A poet, melody master and incredible musician. Miss him ❤

This stripped down version is SO MUCH BETTER than the album version it's not even funny. This is old school Cornell that I love.

completely agree , I've always loved this version more since I grabbed the single of Can't change me.

Yeah this is incredible. The album version is ok. But it's almost a different song.

I remember seeing Singles (probably early 2000s) and hearing a split second of this different version of Spoonman , with the film being released a few years before Superunkown , I was very confused. It all makes sense now!

I had this on a bootleg called stolen prayers and this version is so much more emotional. When I was a teen I don't bought it was so cool to tell a girl who likes you that she's better off alone. Now I realize that makes for a lonely life

It was more about not wanting to risk heartbreak though I didn’t know that’s what it was. I’m not like that anymore because fortune favors the bold and you find no happiness unless you’re open to it. Idk why I think anyone would care but it can’t hurt to say how you feel

This is my first time hearing this version. I was thinking back to fourth grade, when either my mom or dad bought Euphoria Mourning for Christmas (I only knew Black Hole Sun and Can't Change Me, hadn't had my big music awakening yet). Was thinking about how I was playing Spyro with this playing in my little stereo. It's like a completely different atmosphere from the album version and it feels far more organic here. Pitched-up a pinch, but it's darker in tone and atmosphere; still has that rough edge to it (especially with that really tight, gain-soaked delay in the lead near the end). How inspiring.

I'm drinking dust With eyes of rust Tonight my tears might stain your wings So flutter home 'Cause you're better off alone than with me So hide your face And tie your lace And butterflies across your cheek Forget how soon You'll become a fool for words when I speak Flutter girl You don't wanna know what I lived You don't wanna take what I give 'Cause I give nothing for free You don't wanna know what I lived You don't wanna take what I give 'Cause I give nothing for free My hands are rough My fingers cold And your heart's so young and so naive To ever feel For a moment that I might let you believe Flutter girl You don't wanna know what I lived You don't wanna take what I give 'Cause I give nothing for free You don't wanna know what I lived You don't wanna take what I give 'Cause I give nothing for free I'll tear your wings As I've melted your smile As I run all your colors away Flutter girl You don't wanna know what I lived You don't wanna take what I give 'Cause I give nothing for free You don't wanna know what I lived Flutter girl

Surprised this song had other writers involved.
@Vecchio2446 ай бұрын
Flutter girl is from the Poncier Tapes, as was Seasons and a few others. This was a fictional tape with made up song names on it that was supposed to be Cliff Poncier's solo recordings in the movie Singles, and Cornell thought it would be funny to actually write songs to the titles they came up with. He then surprised Cameron Crowe by having him listen to the tape that was supposed to be fake, but now there were songs on it. If other writers were involved I would assume that would be for the studio recording he did later, but this is just him if I remember correctly.

This is a definite proof of Alain Johannes and Natasha Schneider's congeniality and musical craftsmanship. Because the same song on the euphoria album is definitely more harmonic and easier to listen. They made a song from this raw idea.
