I had the privilege of seeing Temple of the Dog in Seattle last weekend. Chris shared several anectdotes about Andy throughout the show. I was in tears for most of it-my boys were raised on this music and there are so many memories attached to the Mother Love Bone and Temple of the Dog albums. Thank you, Chris Cornell, for sharing these special memories.

Denise Valentine greatest commentary I've seen so far, about Chris dying, ' he's with Andy'.
@katevielle4263
@katevielle4263 7 жыл бұрын
Denise Valentine That's how I like seeing it too. Andy with his top-hat & glitter in his hair offering Chris a drink. I truly believe Chris never got over Andy's death. In PJ20, he was practically crying over talking about it. Andy was a light in his life, and it went away too soon. In Chris' words, the death of innocence in the Seattle scene wasn't Kurt's death it started with Andy's.

He also could not forgive himself for not comforting Layne Staley,when Layne was sobbing,crying on his knees,with all of Andy's friend in 1 room.He wanted to hug him,comfort him,but he stayed rooted to his seat.Chris talked about it several times,full of regret and sadness,he never forget it.A kind and gentle man

Chris has always seemed to be the wisest and most put together guy of all the bands. He's got the strength and also the take no shit attitude. Never really been whiny or pretentious. Seems like the kind of guy who's not too preachy. I love when he says the whole personal eulogy is just bullshit. Always admired his straightforward character.
@E3E--
@E3E-- 7 жыл бұрын
That's a great line too, about an artist's works being a personal eulogy, because a lot of people are trying to look back on Chris' songwriting now as being revealing to his death, like it was foreshadowing, even though here himself he says that kind of thing is bullshit.

He was so down to Earth, always humble. When I was in high school in the 90s, I was a waitress at this little diner in Edmonds, wa. just a little north of Seattle, and Chris' Father was a regular of mine, he came in every Sunday morning for pancakes and coffee. Chris and his brother would come in with him whenever in town and seriously you could not get more down to earth and genuinely kind than these guys. His Dad was so proud of Chris in everything he did. He would bring in clippings of any reviews or articles in the local newspapers or magazines and show all us girls that worked there what his son was up to. Chris would always give me a little wink and I would blush so bad.

Chris Cornell is an amazing singer but I think he is more amazing of a person, he is so humble and insightful , I was truly fortunate to have saw him at the State Theater in Detroit on his Euphoria morning tour , I saw him three times with Audioslave , and then saw him again at the State Theater which is now called The Fillmore with Soundgarden in 2015 what a great show , all the shows were great but the Euphoria morning to her still blows my mind , if I had to describe Chris and one where it would definitely be brilliant

I can never get over how humble, and almost like insecure Chris was... particularly at that point in his career. He was this uber-talented singer/musician, good looking frontman rockstar, and he always had that insecure voice in the back of his head. And speaking about Andy it's really evident, because of how uninhibited Andy was. I think Chris, like a lot of the Seattle scene at the time, really admired Andy for that and aspired to have that part of Andy wear off on them.

Guy on the right of the thumbnail picture is Ian Astbury of the Cult, it was taken at a Cult show where Mother Love Bone were the support. The Cult had made it big at that point and Ian tried to use their pull to promote the bands on the Seattle scene in the late 80s and requested Soundgarden play the precursor to Lollapalooza, 'the Gathering of the Tribes' which Ian put together with his own money.

The music in the background is from Times of Trouble and Pearl Jam's Footsteps. But where can I find this version?

Chris is right about commercial hard rock potentially getting another shot of adrenaline from Mother Love Bone. They had a grungy sound but they were also very flamboyant, assertive, extroverted heavy rock that I think would've very easily picked up the torch from Guns N Roses. If that had been the case, would commercial hard rock have just relocated to Seattle, rather than completely imploding and Seattle being seen as the focal point of alternative and indie rock? Would 90's rock not have turned out so generally dark and dreary? Instead of being almost completely negative, 90's rock would've been far more emotionally balanced similar to 60's and 70's rock. Would Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains all been seen as hard rock/metal instead of alternative? They all had aspects of every one of those styles anyway. I really think if Andy Wood survived at least a few more years then the entire way we look at 90's rock would've drastically changed. There'd have been a fierce rivalry between him and Cobain, rather than a half-assed one between Cobain and Vedder. And it's likely that Wood would've been the face of 90's rock with Kurt in second place, instead Kurt being the face with Vedder in second.

Cool interview. I believe this is from the Andy Wood documentary. Music is a bit too loud though.

robin mcrae Yeah, but their would still be a Mother Love Bone. Which were a thousand times better. Vedder is a liberal douche.
