Dude i fought wilderness wildfires in idaho and Wyoming . The Santa Ana winds are the biggest factor and the live embers can travel 1-2 miles !!! back burns - controlled burns are effective in a controlled environment . This is not a controlled environment due to dry fuels , winds and embers. 🙏

Chris didn't say anything about the environment being a controlled one. He only stated that if the firefighters can't put the fire out in time, due to same conditions you already stated, then they will drop as much water around it and nearby untouched areas to control it's spread as much as possible. Create some kind of a firebreak. A very wet one, in this case. Back in days of old, they use to use dynamite or nitrogen glycerin to create said firebreaks and check the wildfire's spread. But I guess that's all obsolete now.

As a former volunteer Rescue Squad member, I can tell you with a guarantee that if you have a fire - large or small - it will not be put out without water. And IF (operative word) the water was not available that should have been, then heads need to roll. And they won't. CA will remain as pathetically myopic as it has been.

Fire in Paradise documentary. Cal Fire spokesman states.....The CA wildfires behave uncharacteristically and do not respond to standard fire suppression techniques. Then a list scrolls down the screen listing 85 fires. What has been sprayed is very flammable in addition to whatever else it is being sprayed for. Decades of spraying !!!

The carbon footprint of forest fires is not only due to forest mass but also to the burning of plastics, asphalt, metals, and home insulation. More climate action and environmental education is needed.

At the moment hydrants with water pressure is what is really needed, Water pressure comes from elevated water storage tanks of which there are not enough. The worst nightmare for a firefighter is connecting a hose to a hydrant and having nothing come out. As for carbon footprints and environmental education, you will be able to see this fire from space. There is going to be a very large footprint because generators are banned in CA and can't be used with pumps.

Control burns are used frequently here in California, unfortunately the winds can take a control burn out of control with the wind in Southern California, it can pick up an ember and move it miles away causing more devastation 😢
