To all the haters out there... THINK ABOUT THIS.... If someone said you sounded like Jimi, or Jimmy, or Eric, or so and so... Wouldn't you feel blessed? It is only natural to sound like your influences... But given only the 9yr age spread between Chris and Stevoe note that, they are both Texas Gents. Raised listening to the same music, the same influences, playing the same Clubs. Stevie was very fortunate and blessed to be recognized as The First of this powerful blues rock genre. THAT SHOULD NOT TAKE AWAY FROM THE AMAZING TALENTS OF PEOPLE LIKE CHRIS DUARTE, WES JEANS, LANCE LOPEZ, ERIC GALES, WALLY FARKAS, DANE SONNIER... And 100s of other monster guitarists from that area.

To see Chris perform live is then ...like to be owned by the one man CHRIS DUARTE!!.... He turns the glorious guitar instrument into a raging drama with the full range of emotional output... there could not be enough wires in a machine to replicate what this mortal being bleeds out... passions with crescendo... Get in his zone and you will experience a musical nirvana!!!

He used to work with my uncle shawn as a dish washer.... My uncle and aunt took me to a live show of his at chans in woonsocket ri when i was maybe 15 or 16. Best night of my life. This guy is amazing, talented, and a genuinely decent person. He signed the back of my guitar because he did not want me to hang it on the wall he wanted me to keep playing and practicing. Anyone who has negative things to say can have one more cup of coffee and go to the valley Below. "Blow it out your @ss"

People not hip to Chris may side into cliche nonsense about SRV comparisons. But Chris is very much his own man and plays with ferocious and incredible artistry. I'd say he's the best thing on 6 strings happening in rock and blues right now. He can play circles around most of the headliner types but with more legit passion. Nobody can touch him.

Joshua he’s one of the best overlooked, underrated guitarists around. He didn’t like the SRV comparisons because he didn’t want to keep hearing he’s a SRV copycat so he kind’ve went a bit off into adding jazz into some of his playing. But he can blow anybody off the stage if he wants to. He can do SRV as I said he just wanted to make his own name. But unless you’re doing mainstream bs you’re not going to hit it real big. It’s ok he has his faithful followers. I’m one of them.

@Joshualbm
@Joshualbm Ай бұрын
@@gabrielm.4554 just another lazy eared and uninteresting cop out. Chris plays way outside of those idioms than you're hearing. Sure, the influences are there but Chris blends other diverse styles and technical elements than SRV did. SRV played almost entirely in the vein of Albert King, BB King, Buddy Guy, Huber Sumlin et al plus had some jazz ideas. And someone wanting to be snarky would just say he copied them. But being influenced by and adding your own flavors and elements is what the both have done. It's obvious to me that Chris moves in and out of lots of styles, has a very personal approach which catch my attention. I hear the differences, not the similarities. Miles Davis liked Wayne Shorter because of how much he could sound like Coltrane. But the two, while having similarities, had their own voices and expression that made them legendary and distinctively different. Chris has Coltrane influences, Pat Martino, obviously Jimi Hendrix too. But even Jimi took influences from the same players as both SRV and Chris as well as being influenced by Coltrane and Wes Montgomery. So listen up, there's more there than meets the ear.

I started listening to Chris in 1994. Strat magic. What if his guitar was stolen, and somehow he discovered a Tele, a Gretsch or a Gibson 335 or even a Rickenbacker, perhaps even a 12. Something tells me he would blow our minds. Just like SRV did when he beat the living shit out of a 12 string on unplugged w/Satriani (I believe). Good show.

I was reading some of the comments below, most positive, but the one guy that says Chris is an SRV clone, I don't understand. Similar? Slightly and only cause it is Texas blues. Otherwise Chris has a very unique style and sound. One of the best, and highly underrated. Also, I once met him when my band was playing on the same bill, and he is an incredibly nice guy! I only wish I could have spent more time visiting. He is a stand up dude!

Good Gawd Y'all! Learn a little history before you start calling someone a rip off and listen to some other Texas guitarist that proceeded SRV before start claiming Chris is a ripoff! A lot of SRV's lick were directly influenced by Hendrix and the other part by Fredddie King! For that matter Chris is a Texas boy and most likely grew up playing in some of the very same places as SRV and did you know Chris has been playing professionally since the early eighties?! He's not much younger than SRV,Stevie was born in 1954 and Chris in 1963,for the math impaired that's nine years difference.

Dude you couldn't be more wrong, about this man. He is a master of the guitar. I implore you to reconsider. If you knew anything about Chris Duarte, you would understand that he is actually a jazz guitar player. This guy has got his own voice, and definitely has his own sound. This is just one song, this guy is very good at being diverse. He can sound like Eric Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robin Trower, John Coltrane, John McLaughlin, you name it Chris Duarte can easily play any style off the top of his head. Listen to some of his other songs... this guy is the epitome of staying true to yourself. But he also tips his hat and shows respect to his influences through his music.

My page has a vid I did of Chris singing this same song on 12/12/12 and yea, 'too crisp' is a good take on it. Never could put my finger on it. But by comparison, this version shot about 6 months later when he had improved the shi* out of 'em, he does them damn near justice. Not even gonna mention guitar work. He aced that. Not no fuggin' wanna be, whoever said that.

Obviously hugely influenced by SRV (can't blame him for this), but his vocals show how great SRV was as a vocalist, as well. And of course this guy pales to SRV's playing, too. SRV was pure and real; this guy's a wannabe, but skilled, nonetheless.
@DerEchteBold
@DerEchteBold 9 жыл бұрын
Wannabe? What made you write that? After I found this and watched it 2-3 times I came to the conclusion that this is the most intense and unique Blues player I ever heard. The vocal style needs a little 'gettin' used to' I guess but to me it sounds not as boring as most other Blues guitarists singing. And I never would've thought of any SRV comparisons, maybe it's an influence but the outcome sounds nothing like a rip-off or something, so it's all good.

I've been a SRV fan for a long time( i'm 53 yrs old) and saw Chris live last night at Dans Electro bar in Houston. the man is intense! NOT a wannabe! he plays his heart and soul in every jam. by the end of the first set he was soaked thru his tshirt. sometimes he played hard for 8-10 mins without letting up a notch. agreed hes not the best vocalist but his guitar talents are real and so is his intensity.

Sorry, but the naysayers have got a point. The guy is a great player, no doubt, but id sooner he just worked a SRV tribute band ..then play the hell out of SRVs tunes..in his OWN way.. This business of just copping the intros and outtros to other well known songs and adding his own fillers doesnt impress. Whats more, close your eyes and his vocal style is pure Walter Trout all done.. The guy just has nothing of his own and all the silly theatrics and grimmaces make it even harder to watch.
